Resident Evil: Requiem, the highly anticipated next chapter in Capcom's iconic survival horror series (often referred to as Resident Evil 9), plunges players into a nightmarish world of bio-organic horrors and moral dilemmas. Featuring innovative open-level design, vehicle exploration, and intense, Last of Us-inspired combat mechanics, this native Nintendo Switch 2 port promises immersive first-person terror optimized for the hybrid console. Set to release in February 2026, Requiem marks Leon S. Kennedy's poignant send-off, blending heart-pounding action with chilling revelations that redefine the franchise's legacy. Looking damn good this one. Super Hyped.

I was waiting for this ever since Street Fighter 6 released looking as good as it did. Hopefully Capcom puts out the usual demos so I can see how it compares to PS5 and if the concessions are acceptable in favor of portability.

Just preordered for switch 2. Im kind of a wuss and typically check out guides for the more puzzle heavy re games like 0, 1, 2, And even 3. With me purchasing on release day, hoping I can get through without much trouble.

@Zuljaras ya it’s a shame switch 2 doesn’t have a true physical. My other option was series S which is also digital. I decided to go with S2 for the portability aspect.

Out of curiosity, wouldn’t the ps5 also have a patch or DL required as well?

I'll be holding out until Preydog finishes the PCVR Mod for Requim later this year. And using the upcoming Steam Frame on a PC that's a PS5 Pro adjacent to play...Meanwhile, Quest 3 is history purely for VR gaming on my end. With it's lack of Eye tracking + DFR, high latency and noticeable image compression for PCVR since it's not using a 6ghz dongle like Steam Frame, and weaker 3D Depth perception due it's 70% Stereo overlap. Where as PSVR2 hits 85% & Steam Frame is a whopping 90%. Stereo Overlap generally never gets talked about with VR, but it's crucial and one of the most important features.

There's also a small glimor of hope that RE9 PSVR2 will have a surprise unveil for Feb's state of play. I don't think I'll be able to play this one FLAT after experiencing 7, 8(Especially) & 4Remake in VR. Although, RE2 Remake on PS5(Using the 80-120fps mode..Although, PS5 Pro can lock it at a stable 120.) was INcredible. 10/10/S-tier experience. And i really enjoyed RE3 Remake, even though it felt gutted thanks to omitting some of the locations that were present in the PS1 original. RE2 Remake though is masterclass. Didn't care for the 'flat' versions of 7, 8 and even 4Remake, with the exception of RE4R's DLC separate ways which was excellent. Playing the main campaigns however for all 3 needs to be experienced in VR, especially 7&8 and the entirity of the Village section for RE4R. Traversing through those lake caves, taking out Genando's in VR and hunting down every last piece of treasure was such a blast. I went back to replay those same exact areas on my TV, and it all felt like nothing. lol

As for Switch 2 owners, Mouse controls might be a thing for those that want it, but I dread that Capcom will yet again flub Gyro aiming like they always do for both the NS2 & PS5 versions, with Revelations 2 being the only exception. Pro 1/2 controller Gyro in tendam with stick aiming, does wonders for anything in first person when it's implented properly giving you the right level of precision with a higher sensitivity dial like in Power Slave, Quake 1&2, PO'ed, Metroid Prime Remaster(etc)....But Capcom unleashes the bare minimum(not even) and it's always slow, innacurate and unreliable just like in the flat version of Village, and it's just as awful in RE4 Remake. VR modes recitify this by giving you full on 1:1 motion aiming, that surpases the Wii remote plus. It's on a whole different level.

If I were forced to play Requiem flat, I'd play it on PS5 Pro with the 90-120fps setting, which lowers the resolution a little and disables RayTracing. And just sticking with analog stick aiming. Gyro aiming never works all that well for anything in 3rd person imo, only in first. But i know Capcom will mess it up. on a flat screen, RE fairs way better in 3rd person imo, but in first person, VR all the way. Even though 3rd person VR with Traditional stick aiming is doable in VR. You get glimses of what could be, when Leon climbs ladders in 3rd person, or jumps through windows in RE4R's VR mode. it's really neat!

@NeonPizza I tried to play RE8 VR mod but it is not playable and I do not know why. Maybe because it is DirectX 12 and all other RE games supported DirectX 11 and I had zero issues.

The weird part is that even at the lowest settings it performs exactly like in the highest settings. So I do not know what I am missing. RE2R VR Mod played perfectly on high.

@Zuljaras
If you can't somehow get the VR mod for RE8 to work, just grab a PSVR2 on sale and play the official RE8 VR mode on that. That was one of the greatest video game experiences i had in the last 20 years. It's why you buy the PSVR2, including RE4 Remake even if you're already rolling with PCVR.

BTW, have you gotten the RE7 PCVR mod to work by any chance? I'd love to revist all 3 with future better headsets, like the Steam Frame and especially Pimax's upcoming 4K per eye MicroOLED VR goggles, the Dream Air, on a 5090 or at least 4090.

Also, I highly recommend Subside and Compound for PCVR. The latter is such a fantastic VR boomer shooter, and Subside is pure ocean sim' addiction. The great white shark cage section is the stuff of nightmares. I couldn't last even a minute. Mind you it's just a simulation, and doesn't play out like some universal VR theme park attraction like with the great white encounter from Ocean Descent in PSVR Worlds on PSVR1.

@NeonPizza Yes, all RE2R, RE3R and RE7 work perfectly on PCVR for me.

And I am sure that RE8 and RE4R will work perfectly on the Steam Machine + Steam Frame or Meta Quest 3. I think I will be getting it this year.

I am surprised that I am more excited getting a digital only machine than a Switch 2.

The Steam machine is like a less capable PS5 by the sounds of it, but Steam Frame does have Eye Tracking + DFR/S to utlize more power unlike Quest 3 paired to a PC. It's going to have to run Village at 60fps(With reprojection) like PSVR2, but the resolution will probably have to be lowered below 2160x2160 per eye.

Resolution and frame rate probably wont be quite as consistent as PSVR2 + PS5, but SF has Pancake Lens Clarity(Big step up over PSVR2's fresnel), no mura(No meshy shrouded veil masking the image), an RGB display which is more clear and detailed than Sony's PenTile based OLED display, higher pixels per degree and slight boost in resolution will give you quest 3 'stand alone' image clarity(And I say stand alone since Q3 connected to PCVR has noticeable image compression), but with PSVR2's great 3D Depth perception thanks to SF's near 90% Stereo Overlap.

Plus image compression is supposedly barely noticeable and there's like 2-5ms of lag(Acording to Linus) with SF's 6ghz dongle which smokes Quest 3's PCVR connecivity. No point in using Quest 3 for PCVR anymore. It's Pointless. Still, i wish there was a Steam Machine Pro(With Power that's in between a PS5 & PS5 Pro) and a secondary model, Steam Machine OLED, using Micro-OLED instead of LCD, but alas.

And I've mostly been digital since PS4 Pro as far as moden consoles go. I only grab the occasional physical release for NS & NS2. PS5 & XSX physical media looks depressing. They're not even trying anymore. The only time i ever liked PlayStation Physical Media was with the 1995 & 1996 PS1 Long Box editions. Be it Battle Arena Toshinden, Jumping Flash!, Resident Evil 1, just to name a few. They felt substantial and unique enough to stand out on their own coming from Genesis, SNES and Saturn if you had it.

Game is looking crazy impressive on Switch 2. Reports saying it's even 60fps. Which we can't confirm but, bottom line is everyone says it feels super smooth.

I'm blown away. My first RE game was Revelations on 3DS. And I refuse to play RE games on the TV cause I'm scaredy like that. Playing on handheld makes me more aware of my surroundings and it doesn't terrify me as much, reminds me it's just a game.

Played Revelations 2 on Vita and Switch, and RE5 on Switch all in handheld.

I can finally play RE7 and RE8 in handheld as well as Requiem. Tried RE7 in VR years ago. Threw my headset off and I do believe that was the last time I ever used it. Swore never again.

I can't remember the difficulties but I definitely never choose Hard Mode in games. Typically I choose Normal, or in some instances Easy (Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, eh ehm...)

But ya, Revelations was fantastic, and I played through the game a 2nd time in RAID Mode online co-op with my brother. This was back on 3DS in like 2012. My first online gaming experience actually.

Been dang near a decade and a half since a brand new Resident Evil dropped on a portable console, so this feels pretty special. Idk if any of these RE games have a co-op mode like Revelations though. I love RE Revelations 2 RAID Mode and the fact RE5 can be played in co-op for the campaign.

So even if RE7, RE8 and RE9 are all single player, there's always those others for co-op.
