I'm so happy the news cycle is starting over with exciting games ahead for the next few years!

Great selection @JaxonH!

Nintendo Brasil didn't announce the actual price of the console yet or which bundles will be available here, but if possible I'm leaning towards the Mario Kart bundle to save some money on the game. For other games, not sure which ones will be day 1, but there are a lot I want to get eventually. =)

@JaxonH What's your basis for the tomorrow's list out of curiosity? I don't see why Street Fighter V in particular over say, Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077 or any of the other ports.

IceClimbers

@JaxonH Oooh, I didn't see that Cyberpunk supports all that! Might make my decision harder.

And mouse controls being seamless like that is awesome! I'm picturing doing that in Metroid Prime 4 with improved visuals in either Performance or Quality modes and it sounds absolutely drool worthy.

Also good choices! I think Bravely Default will be an attractive option for a lot of people at only $40. I think I'll skip the Zelda upgrades at least at launch as I feel I've had my fill of those games. Mario Party and Kirby on the other hand I'll grab for sure for the new content.

Oh crap. I forgot about Elden Ring didn't I! Gosh dang it. That's launch day. I may have to put Street Fighter 6 on the "wait for sale" list after all to budget for Elden Ring.

Any other notable launch games I'm forgetting?

@WaveBoy
I was looking at those TVs, but I decided to just forego a replacement cause I really don't use TV much anymore anyways. I'm always on my phone for internet or Switch handheld for gaming. Figured I'll eventually get another in a few years. No sense getting one now if it's just gonna sit and grow obsolete.

@skywake I reckon it's naive to think Nintendo won't introduce a paid DLC pass for MK World

Maybe. I'm not necessarily saying that. What I'm saying is that these prices, while high, are possibly a good thing IF they are generous with the DLC and aren't doing what third parties do and charging endlessly for cosmetics. Things that generally have stopped happening over the years because publishers are having to extract additional money from their games. And they have to do that because, frankly, game prices have gone too low and sales are too aggressive

If Nintendo pushing the prices higher is the first toe in the water to a new higher price of games? If that newer higher price allows publishers to take more risks and tackle more games that aren't just a vehicle to sell ongoing revenues? I think it's a good thing. In the same way that I was happy with some of the mobile games Nintendo has done in the past being one-off fee paid titles rather than glorified slot machines

Anyone who thinks the current pricing of gaming is sustainable hasn't been looking at the slow erosion of risky games and occasional death of various studios. Well, death of all middle sized studios who aren't out there making games that are effectively slot machines. You can't have increasingly larger games every year while nominal game prices don't move with a gaming user base that has largely stagnated

If you have NSO the NSW2 Edition upgrade packs are free. At least some of them anyways.

And ya they killed it with the mouse controls. Apparently the Nintendo staff were encouraging journalists demoing Drag x Drive to use their legs. Like, "no seriously, use your legs for the joycon in mouse mode". Apparently it works well. But if you're playing tabletop mode you probably have a surface to use anyways.

We finally made it. Nintendo now has the full backing of 3rd parties. Not 50% like with Switch. Even Yakuza is now on Switch 2 at launch. FromSoftware making an exclusive and bringing their biggest game at launch. Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2. Final Fantasy Remake trilogy coming to Switch 2. Im sure not every game will come over but, 85% of them will. That's close enough. That + Nintendo exclusives with 4k and 120fps and VRR and HDR... we made it.

I remember wandering in the Wii U wilderness in 2015. Still have nightmares of Amiibo Festival to this day. And to think- 10 years later and Nintendo has a 3-in-1 console + handheld + portable console with removable controllers, double digit 1st party gems every year, and the vast majority of 3rd party games on PS/Xbox, with graphics and performance that holds its own (no more 540p with sub-30fps frame drops).

This console makes everything else on the market feel like a relic of a bygone era. I would say other consoles at least still have tons of exclusives but no, that's not the case anymore. PS and Xbox release their 1st party on PC.

Once Steamdeck 2 releases and doesn't struggle with AAA games anymore, it's a wrap. Switch 2 and Steamdeck 2 will offer everything money can buy, both handheld and on TV.

Do we not have a general Nintendo Switch 2 thread yet? Someone should make one. I would but anytime I do a mod locks it and says "use this other tangentially related thread" under the guise of being the same as the new one created.

For now I'll drop the NVIDIA announcement here:

The Nintendo Switch 2, unveiled April 2, takes performance to the next level, powered by a custom NVIDIA processor featuring an NVIDIA GPU with dedicated RT Cores and Tensor Cores for stunning visuals and AI-driven enhancements.

With 1,000 engineer-years of effort across every element — from system and chip design to a custom GPU, APIs and world-class development tools — the Nintendo Switch 2 brings major upgrades.

The new console enables up to 4K gaming in TV mode and up to 120 FPS at 1080p in handheld mode. Nintendo Switch 2 also supports HDR, and AI upscaling to sharpen visuals and smooth gameplay.

The new RT Cores bring real-time ray tracing, delivering lifelike lighting, reflections and shadows for more immersive worlds.

Tensor Cores power AI-driven features like Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), boosting resolution for sharper details without sacrificing image quality.

Tensor Cores also enable AI-powered face tracking and background removal in video chat use cases, enhancing social gaming and streaming.

With millions of players worldwide, the Nintendo Switch has become a gaming powerhouse and home to Nintendo’s storied franchises. Its hybrid design redefined console gaming, bridging TV and handheld play.

With 10x the graphics performance of the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch 2 delivers smoother gameplay and sharper visuals.

  • Tensor Cores boost AI-powered graphics while keeping power consumption efficient.
  • RT Cores enhance in-game realism with dynamic lighting and natural reflections.
  • Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) via NVIDIA G-SYNC in handheld mode ensures ultra-smooth, tear-free gameplay.

Developers get improved game engines, better physics and optimized APIs for faster, more efficient game creation.

Powered by NVIDIA, Nintendo Switch 2 delivers for both players and developers.

Honestly, between the pricing and the various small things they're charging people keep trying to doom. But the more I look at it the more it just looks like a solid platform. I know I've been pretty hyped about this for a while and it's, more or less, been exactly what I've been saying it would and should be. But it's also just.... looking pretty damn good

Like watching some of the Treehouse gameplay from the enhanced editions of BotW, DK and Mario Kart. It just looks good. Like, really good. Both in the general Nintendo knows what they're doing sense but also in the "wow, this actually looks technically good when blown up on my TV". Very exciting

Honestly the console alone is pretty reasonable and good. Had Nintendo stuck to the currently accepted 70 price tag for its games, it would have been a basically perfect showcase outside of minor gripes here and there

That high refresh rate is going to make folks forget that the screen isn't OLED.

@Uncle_Franklin

Nintendo did open registration at their My Store for reserving a console. The requirement was being a member for at least 12 months and 50 hours of play time on account. Although yours is the first time my seeing Nintendo actively informing customers. A little suspicious. You may want to be extra careful about who sent the email before you click any links.

Ya it sounds legit EXCEPT the fact Nintendo said pre-orders for the store would begin in May. I'd tap the sender name and see what the actual email is.

@Uncle_Franklin Yep, I and several others I know got this email. I think this is how they're handling preorders in the UK (seems based on the previous 2 posts that the US system is different).

Edit: but yeah based on Jaxon's comment it is probably best to check the sender - better safe than sorry. My email is from [email protected].

It was heavily implied when they talked about transferring games but I don't know if it was stated explicitly. I think it is definitely true though.

I'm a Nintendo boy since SNES. Nintendo Switch was the first Nintendo console I didn't get (or request) at launch. It's also the most disappointing Nintendo console ever (Virtual Boy didn't exist here). I watched the Nintendo Direct and even Digital Foundry's long video. Everything about Switch 2 is a disappointment, especially paying extra just because the original Switch was not able to play first-party games at 60fps! I don't like how the new Donkey Kong game plays. I'm only interested in Mario Kart World and Metroid Prime 4, but I'm willing to wait a long time for that while I'm playing my backlog on Series X... and old Nintendo games on Switch, Wii U, SNES Mini and New Nintendo 3DS.

Side note: I predict a more expensive model with an OLED screen and 512GB of internal storage.
