Pretty hype direct gotta say. I completely lost my mind for DK, and Mario kart being open world is sick. So many great things. Hitman, Split fiction, Kirby Air riders, new Hyrule Warriors, Gamecube NSO and more. Pretty darn overwhelming honestly. The prices aren't ideal, but I'm not super worried about it personally. Am worried about preorders though. I'd give the show like a 9. Onne big third party announcement away from a ten.
Absolutely blown away by this direct. That initial look at Mario Kart had already sold me on the system - and everything beyond that was just a bonus. Plus, less than 24 hours after finishing Age of Calamity and raving about it we get an announcement for Age of Imprisonment? Amazing. And the new Donkey Kong? Looks fantastic.
Also glad to see that "three phased approach" rumour was a load of nonsense. The number of big-name third party games confirmed for launch already is wild. Makes the first couple of months of the Switch look quite pathetic really. Although I'm starting to doubt that I'll get around to any of the third party stuff tbh!
@darthkermit I imagine it will surpass Wii U sales within the first year.. Will it ever come close to Switch numbers? Possibly nowhere near but I can't see it being anything but a success. It's clearly a far more capable machine than Switch. A very noticeable jump.
With the rate Nintendo put out games now, and how many multi million selling IP they now have, it's really hard to imagine Switch 2 flopping. Look how well the Switch is still selling today..And the OLED model has done very well. I wouldn't be surprised if the number of folk who upgraded to an OLED just for a better screen, surpasses Wii U's lifetime sales.
Reading through some of the negative comments in this thread. Two things. On pricing and it being too high and not being in the Direct itself. You do realise right that the US is their primary market and the one that dictates pricing globally right? Pricing for things in the US is, if you hadn't been watching the news lately, pretty volatile right now. It's not exactly something they could bake in to a pre-recorded presentation
Edit: and a 46% tariff was just announced for goods imported from Vietnam. So yeah, if you're in the US and complaining about the price? I wouldn't be blaming Nintendo here
Secondly, to the people saying it's not a huge upgrade and these games could run on Switch. You need your eyes checked. Seriously. This is a huge leap. Maybe watch one of these trailers on a TV or something rather than in a window on your phone before you go making these kinds of declarations
edit: with that said..... I was personally expecting it to land closer to $400US and land at around $600-650AU. It's not THAT far off what I expected the Australian price to be given we seem to have done fairly well exchange rate wise. The US price does seem a tad higher, considering exchange rate only, compared to outside the US. Probably tariffs are being taken into account somewhat. But still, I was expecting to be paying around $650AU not $699AU. Even so, it's still within the expected price range for a new console
I genuinely get a feeling this is going to end up being a situation like the 3DS. It'll be high priced at launch with games that are priced high, and then prices will be knocked down after the first year when Nintendo realizes the system isn't selling well. There's a lot of people I know IRL who were excited for Switch 2, but now are considering not purchasing it because of the price of the games and the system itself. I feel like a lot of casual gamers aren't going to be purchasing the system.
It sucks too, given that the two first party games they showed (not counting those two tech demos that are bound to be over-priced), and Hyrule Warriors looked good. Just don't know if they're worth paying that 90 dollar physical premium for. The fact Digital and Physical have separate prices also feels wild to me.

I'll wait until there are enough games to convince me the price is worth the expenditure or when Nintendo releases a less costly Lite model, whichever happens earlier.
I will be waiting for the Zelda edition simply because I only want to buy one system this time around. But the Direct itself was great. I am hoping I can buy games via the Nintendo website and if so I will get a few launch games. If not I will add them to the list. My focus is amiibo (damnit didnât wanna get sucked back in but ok) and controllers. The rest can wait for me. I got like 400 switch games left to buy.

Honestly I remember a lot of people were expecting the og Switch to fail at launch too because of the cost of the games and the console.
80 dollars is absurdly high, especially when the vast majority of Switch games were just 60 dollars, but I'm not expecting it to affect Switch 2 sales
Edit: Just gonna say, I thought the direct was incredible. Like the glitching and some slow segments aside, it basically had everything I wanted after the Switch 1. Improved hardware, several titles and updates to look forward to at launch. Lots of 3rd party stuff.
The price of the console is fine for me. Some of the games being 80 just feels like too big a leap so soon. If they were all 70 I would've begrudgingly accepted it but I would've overall been perfectly happy with the Switch 2.
@IceClimbers I assumed that it has separate prices given the Nintendo UK store gave two different prices depending on if you order the physical copy or the digital copy.
On top of that, the 90 dollars was mostly from how it seemed that the digital copy was 80 USD. Apparently it isn't though, and that the UK store lists the game as being 70 digital and 80 physical.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
People who are comfortable throwing out sales numbers like this before the system even launches should be avoided at all costs.
Good luck out there.
We've all seen this rodeo before with WiiU and 3DS. Switch was a new device and was able to capitalize in a strong economy and with the competition screwing up so badly. Now the economy is harsh and 150 million people already have a tablet. They needed a totally new platform like they normally do. Every time they just do an upgrade system, it falls short or absolutely fails.
Their best hope is that Sony and MS continue to have bloated games that launch with 300gb worth of updates because of 4k or sloppy development and lack of dlss. The next MS system is expected to use AI upscaling to resolve this, but we will see.
@darthkermit
The current situation is not the same as when the GameCube or wii u came out (arguably the only two consoles to fail commercially). The GameCube tried to capture the market sony did a better job capturing, and tge wii u failed to grab the casual audience that made the wii such a phenomenon. The switch, however, built up an all new base of fans. People who never played games before were lured in by games like animal crossing during the global lockdown, and then got into mario, Zelda, and pokemon. Nintendo now has theme parks, successful movie franchises, and a bigger audience than ever. They are in a very strong position. Influencers and streamers will be playing Mario kart, day 1. Mario and Zelda will be in theaters garnering millions as games launch exclusively on switch 2. Nintendo has become like peak Disney. High quality media and a huge following.
I doubt the switch 2 will match the switch. There were too many circumstances unique to the switch that (hopefully) won't repeat. But it will almost certainly be a huge success nonetheless.
I am the TrueWiiMaster! Those who call the Wii casual BEWARE!
The price is not ideal and I'm not sure if I'll buy day 1, but I really want the new Donkey Kong and Kirby games. And FF7 Remake. And maybe a couple of the 'Switch 2 edition' upgrades. And Switch 2 Pokemon Legends. đ¤ And a new pro controller if the d-pad is better... My wallet will be hurting.
I still have a voucher; I wonder if I can buy Pokemon Z-A with the voucher and then upgrade to a Switch 2 version.
GameCube NSO may finally convince me to buy expansion pack also...
@TrueWiiMaster At worst I imagine it'll be like the 3ds. Selling notably less than its predecessor. I just hope that its successful enough that Nintendo finds it viable to support lesser known series and so 3rd parties will continue supporting it.
Loved how the Switch 1 revived so many old or dead series. Would hate to see that lost on the Switch 2.
