What I liked:

  • Mario Kart looks like a lot of fun, definitely improved graphics, but didn't wow me like I was expecting. Still, a must buy.
  • New Hyrule Warriors looks awesome
  • Elden Ring, Final Fantasy 7, New FromSoft game - exciting 3rd party titles
  • Gamecube + Soul Caliber 2, Luigis Mansion, Windwaker!
  • Switch 1 Game Upgrades look great
  • MP4 Switch 2 looked great
  • So many 3rd party games
    Questions/Gripes
  • No Windwaker/TP HD
  • Switch 1 upgrades cost $
  • C features are very Nintendo, but not necessarily for me - maybe I'll come to like it?
  • Camera, not really interested, hope it's not required for games I'm interested in
  • Overall costs will be high
  • I thought that I saw a mention of rumble being enhanced - was hoping for haptic controls, TBD on my feelings with the controllers
  • Charging for a demo game that should be included, a game I will never buy

Overall I was very happy with the direct, and pleasantly surprised. It was fun to see Nintendo be very, Nintendo...with the camera, C button

I found it interesting that when they were talking about Switch 1 games working on Switch 2 via normal backwards compatibility, Yoshi's Woolly World was in the list (you can see its boxart between LM3 and Link's Awakening).

My hype and grade would be 10/10 if not for the pricing which they deliberately kept out of the presentation. That should be a factor for a system reveal, it is a product advertisement after all. I don’t think 450 for the console is insane, but the games (which I wasn’t expecting price reveals for in the Direct)… my goodness. I hope this reminds us all that Nintendo is no different than Sony and Microsoft in their profit venturing, economic crises for the consumer be damned. Not to mention the upgrade costs too for older games.

That said, some amazing reveals. Most left of field for me was the final FromSoft trailer, I could see this doing really well on a platform that has always been very strong in multiplayer. Bonanza looks amazing, I loved seeing that as the closer.

Have to think more on this (there was so damn much) but in terms of game reveals and hardware overview, it was a deliciously crafted show.

A bit underwhelming with this latest presentation. Not enough technical aspect was shown to really demonstrate and to see what the Switch 2 is truly capable of. Can't even make a relative comparison to other system...will it be as good as the PS4 pro or even the base PS4 at the bare minimum? I don't care how many great titles it will receive but if these games doesn't have the graphics and technical prowess behind them, than I will feel its lagging behind the competitors relative to the $450-500 price points. The positive is that we will get 4K 60hz docked, 120hz with performance and quality mode.

The killer for me is that, there's no OLED option and the rediculous high price of first party games. I will find it very hard to go from my beautiful high contrast OLED to LCD again. Ultra high definition plus HDR is nice, but you're not going to get that deep color with pure black level on an LCD. I really hope Nintendo will bring out an OLED model sooner than later. As it stands right now, my feeling is mixed and will most likely pass on this launch version.

If Ps Vita was strangled in a crib, Switch 2 is literally pulled out of the womb and thrown into lava.

Sd cards not working. Ridiculous game price. Weak lineup. Paid manual. What else do we add to this gross bucket?

YOSHIS WOOLLY WORLD IS LISTED UNDER THE SWITCH COMPATIBLE GAMES ON SWITCH 2

Nintendo is really trying to nickel and dime us, lol. And I don't like it.

The key issue for me is that the PC/Steam Deck is my primary system and the Switch is my secondary console for those sweet Nintendo exclusives. This Direct was probably better if Nintendo is your only system, but for me there's just nothing here to justify upgrading, especially given the insane pricing. I'll sleep on this for a few years and wait for more games and that mid-gen OLED model.

Does anyone think now the Direct is over that third party publishers that didn’t get games featured are now openly allowed to start making their own Switch 2 announcements?

@FragRed

We've got two days and seven hours of Treehouse events to get through this week first.

Perhaps third parties will begin to announce stuff next week.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

Overall thoughts:

The system itself is as expected. HDR support and up to 120fps was nice to see. Oh and the return of DS download play!

As far as the games go, their 1st party lineup for this year is overall pretty solid, though beefed up with some Switch 2 Editions. Not as strong as Switch 1's 2017 lineup though. 3rd party wise, the day 1 lineup is VERY strong with SF6, Cyberpunk, Yakuza 0, etc., and titles like Borderlands 4 and FFVII Remake confirmed to be on the way.

As far as pricing goes: $449 is okay for the system. Not cheap, but doable. Likely was targeting $399 but factored in Trump's tariffs.

Mario Kart World being $80 sucks, and feels greedy. There's a lot of backlash here, but I'm not sure if it's specifically about MK being $80, or the misplaced idea that $80 is the base price for Switch 2 games that's been reported by some. I think DK Bananza being $70 is evidence enough that pricing will be on a case by case basis.

In other words, I think $70 is the standard like the rest of the industry, and Mario Kart being $80 is an exception like TotK being $70 compared to the standard $60. The Welcome Tour game being paid is just greedy though

@Magician Yeah that makes sense but I hoed Nintendo may have lifted the embargo for third party publishers, especially as Ubisoft I’m sure would love to shout out Assassin’s Creed Shadows is coming (assuming it is). Though I’m kinda curious what the Treehouse streams will play. There’s a dedicated Mario Kart Direct coming up so surely it’s not going to be too much of that. But it’s the big day one game. Do they play third party titles in these streams? Can’t remember .
@Novamii I’m hoping this is the case. Because the more news about games coming to Switch 2 spreads, the better free advertising they can get.

Overall, I liked the direct. I'd give it an 8.5/10. I wish they had thrown in one more big reveal, even if it was for next year. Leaving the pricing out of the direct was also awkward.

I'll probably aim for day 1, but the only game I really want day 1 is Mario kart. I mostly just want to make sure I have a switch 2 when everything else comes out in the following 6 months. Even on Switch 2, I expect I'll still be playing xenoblade x. I wish that was getting an upgrade, too.

All that said, was it ever confirmed to be a touch screen? I realized afterwards that they only mentioned the resolution and frame rate. I dont think they ever said it would still have the touch screen, too. But it must still have it, right?

I feel much more optimistic again, and I am really looking forward to the release. Mario Kart World is enough for a day-one buy.

To be honest, as time moves on and it’s all sinking in, I’m feeling happier about the system. It didn’t help YouTube is garbage for making games look anything remotely decent.

These Switch 2 Editions will ensure Switch games continue to sell well for years to come. I wonder if MK8D will get an upgrade? I would say probably not. Maybe later down the line once World has been out for a few years.

It says BOTW and TTOK upgrades will be free for Expansion Pack members. That's really great. I hope that's the case for the other upgraded games too.

As for the Direct, it surpassed my expectations. I hoped for a sizable leap in graphics and an end to jaggy flickering edges, and it absolutely delivered. I did not even consider 120fps being possible. I have never seen 120fps in motion before. I hope Mario Kart has it. Drag x Drive looks great. I love Rocket League. It looks like it's made by the ARMS team, which I loved. I did hope for 3D Mario but instead we're getting Donkey Kong by the 3D Mario team. It looks superb and is coming so soon. Gamecube support, with Wind Waker, F Zero GX and Soul Calibur 2 day one, amazing! 3rd party support is strong from the start. The definitive edition of Yakuza 0 makes me very happy. A new generation of Arcade Archives with online, starting with Ridge Racer.

It was action packed. I am more than happy with the specs. The 1st party games revealed are all right up my street, except for Hyrule Warriors. Prime 4 in 120fps is unreal. Superb 3rd party support from the get go. The Switch 2 will certainly have lots to play in the opening year. And we've not even seen half of what Nintendo has planned for this year. What could the big holiday game be?

I'm satisfied with what they've shown but not too thrilled about having to pay for game upgrades. Also super happy with the 3rd party stuff announced as I haven't played some of them

Can we use switch 1 controllers for switch 2. Don’t fancy paying £75 for another pro controller.

Twitter has woke up, and the reactions to the $80 games is universally negative.

These games look like they can run on Switch 1 in lower resolutions. There's no point in the hardware existing. It's just not different enough. This will sell at best like 3DS and at worst like WiiU. Most likely, it will have sales somewhere in the middle at about 30 million.
