The fun thing about these posts from @Keman is that even after this Direct when we know enough to call it out conclusively as BS with official information they'll be able to wiggle out of it. Because there's a lot of hand-wavey opinioney ways to get out of these bonds
Eg if there happens to be a BotW 4K or something the method of delivery, how they charge for it or don't charge, how it's pushed, even just how prominent or not it is. There's enough there to go all no-true-scotsman on it and say "well yeah, but the way Nintendo has done it is different so it doesn't count"
And that's my final prediction for this thread

@Bigmanfan
Over time I've just started to work under the assumption trolls don't exist. Mostly because I came to the realisation that the average person is, well, often pretty average

So to recap. 4K 60hz docked, 120hz modes both in portable mode and docked, HDR, fairly obvious fidelity jump beyond PS4 spec, cross gen games and enhanced versions
Also what I suspect is a game cast mode mostly used as a way to replicate what we used to have for DS download play rather than some kind of Wii U mode. I'm guessing that's what's going on there. And I also suspect the voice isolation stuff is an implementation of a similar feature NVidia demoed a while ago. So tensor cores being put to good use there. Also GameCube on NSO
Anything else I missed that people had been doubting over the last year or so?
Edit: I will say, I am slightly annoyed at the paid upgrades. Will see what the pricing is before I complain too much but
I guess we kinda knew the Switch 2 would just be basically a pro Switch, but I still kinda hoped we would get more. Them advertising features that have been just the most minimal expectation on basically any other device for like two decades at this point just felt like some kind of parody. Them also not offering prices for literally anything makes me super nervous.
However, the line up of games looks excellent, I am glad we can upgrade games, rather than being forced to buy them all over again, so I will probably end up picking one up if I can, but if it does turn out to be super expensive, I feel like I can probably wait for now and I'll feel just fine about it.
Knee-jerk reaction is... oooook.... will still try to get a preorder, but not as immediately hyped as I was hoping to be.
But when I step back and try to be realistic about this: MK World looks sweet and will be a game I can play forever; FF VII Remake is happening; and the DK game looks awesome.
That's on top of already knowing about Prime 4.
So yea, I mean, I'm gonna have plenty to play, most of which require me to upgrade to Switch 2. And I'm sure there will be more over the coming days.
The hardware looks nice. I like that C button functionality, and maybe it will expand in the future. Won't be getting a camera. Power looks really great.
Happy enough with the console and pretty keen for Mario Kart day one. Kirby Air Ride sequel and new 3D DK were nice surprises at the end but I would have liked to see a bit more first party stuff. It was an alright Direct but I'm only moderately hyped from that.
The new DK game looks so exciting and cool, but I’m surprised the Direct only had, what, maybe four first-parties? The third-parties look cool for sure, but I expected a bit more first-parties…
And the lack of price in there was weird, and it’s so crazy that they’re going to charge money for a tech demo. The voice chat sounds cool, but I don’t think I’ll use it, and I also think it unfortunately has the potential to be misused by some, ESPECIALLY with the camera, which was sort of unexpected.
I am wondering what the mouse will also be used for besides that wheelchair ball game. I know there were rumors that the mouse functionality was there because they were potentially going to port Mario Paint to NSO, but I am still curious what they’ll use it for besides that one game in there.
I expected a bitttt more, but not disappointed really. I hope that they have a June Direct and hopefully show off some more interesting stuff! Just thinking about what they could have in development for the Switch 2 that’s awaiting to be revealed is exciting.
EDIT: Should have added that the new DK game looks a bit Rare-inspired too and way more cartoony. Adds onto my excitement even more!
Well that went about as expected, but with some surprises here and there. Mario Kart being open world is fire, Mouse mode confirmed, cross gen versions of Prime 4 and Legends Z-A confirmed, I'm not even miffed that BotW on Switch 2 is confirmed because of how it's implemented, GC NSO confirmed. I'm guessing they're going to use Switch 2 Editions of Switch 1 as gap fillers, because there's a lot of other games that could use them (that's an entire topic to itself). Really my only big complaint is no 3D Mario, but since Mario Kart is open world and we got open world DK, I'll tolerate not having 3D Mario for now. 9/10 seems about right for this.
I'm over all satisfied. Mario Kart World and DK Bananza look FANTASTIC, and I didn't expect to see the latter release so soon.
3rd party support is MUCH stronger out of the gate, with Street Fighter 6, Cyberpunk 2077, Yakuza 0, Bravely Default HD Remaster, etc all on launch day.
GameCube NSO is hype. Bit miffed at paid upgrades for Switch 1 games but oh well.
I will say I was expecting a little more on the 1st party side, but Kirby Air Riders and Hyrule Warriors are cool announcements. Oh and 4K 60fps or 1080p 120fps Metroid Prime 4 is something I did NOT expect.
I'm on an 8/10 for this direct (ignoring the voice lag and the temporary screen freeze in between haha). Many shocking reveals and the 120fps actually made me gasp aloud haha. Very excited for the new MK (but was kinda hoping to see a new 3D Mario, but its fine). Was also hoping to see the OS and eshop but I'm sure they'll showcase that soon.
Oof I could just smell the greed throughout the entire direct though. That 450 price though, not very family friendly. Very, very unhappy with Mario Kart World being priced at $80. Also not really happy about the tutorial game being paid, especially since it's a 'welcome tour'
Great direct if I'm honest. Would've loved a little glimpse at 3D Mario, but I'm sure we'll get that in June or something. Third party support is crazy. Being a Nintendo only person for the past few years (PS/Xbox have totally lost me over the years) I'm extremely excited to play Elden Ring and the 7 remake. Exclusive bloodborne-type sequel looks awesome. Very excited. I said I was going to hold off on the S2 but now I might be a Day 1 buyer.
That was immensely underwhelming. It's just a Switch HD. The games just look like Switch games in higher resolution. The controllers were also disappointing. They added mouse controls instead of improving motion tracking. There was no new Mario, Zelda, or F-zero. Not even a Zelda Maker or remake of Eternal Darkness.
$500 for Switch HD is a rough sell when 150 million people already own this system. This could sell as few as 30 million units in a five year period. It's WiiU again.
