The 3rd party support in Q1 2026 honestly is absolutely fantastic, with FFVII Remake Intergrade, RE Requiem, and Monster Hunter Stories 3 being the headliners.

Don't forget Dragon Quest 7 remake. Between all those big third party games and Pokopia, it's definitely gonna be a packed quarter.

@IceClimbers
Ya, I'm actually more excited for the 3rd party in the first half of 2026 than 1st party as well. And basically the exact same games you mentioned.

  • Final Fantasy VII Remake
  • Resident Evil 7
  • Resident Evil Village
  • Resident Evil Requiem
  • Monster Hunter Stories 3
  • Dragon Quest VII Reimagined
  • Borderlands 4
  • Elden Ring

Borderlands 4 will be contingent on it running at a stable framerate, but if it does, I'm in. I'm craving some single player FPS with gyro and mouse aiming. There's also Fallout 4, Indiana Jones, 007 First Light, Lego Batman, Trails Beyond the Horizon, Adventures of Elliot, Duskbloods, Fatal Frame 2, Metaphor Phantazio is credibly leaked to be coming, tons of other games leaked/known to be coming like Red Dead Redemption 2, Call of Duty, Ninja Gaiden 4, Silent Hill, Doom The Dark Ages (and eventually I'm confident we'll see Forza, Gears and Halo). It's wild only being 5 months in with that many games we're already aware of. I said it back in the NSW1 era- the NSW2 is going to be the generation where Nintendo cements 3rd party support- not 100%, but enough that it will no longer be a major detraction to the platform. Anyone can buy a NSW2 and feel assured that not only will they be inundated with exclusives, they'll have more quality 3rd party they could ever hope to keep up with.

And that's something to keep in mind. More than any other platform, NSW2 has a boatload of exclusives competing for consumers time and money. So there's less room for competition. Naturally, that will mean not every 3rd party game can thrive. But enough can, and it's the best ones devs are confident will succeed that will filter through.

And goodness, even though I'm almost exclusively focused on Metroid Prime 4, we also get Octopath Traveler 0, Red Dead Redemption, Marvel Cosmic Invasion and Assassin's Creed Shadows that same week, after just getting Hades 2, Kirby Air Riders and Tomb Raider. Man...

All that said, I am looking forward to Mario Tennis Fever quite a bit. And am optimistic Yoshi Mysterious Book will be less like Crafted World and more like Wooly World. But once we get to the latter half of 2026, bring on that Fire Emblem, Splatoon Raiders and Gen10 Pokemon!

What ever happened to that Eliot game by Square? The demo was super fun. I thought that was a late 2025, but I guess not?

@rallydefault It was always 2026 though the reveal was 2 Square Enix games in a row (Elliot in 2026 followed by Octopath 0 on December 4th 2025).

Can I give a shout out to Wild Hearts S? This game really is the best Monster Hunter I've ever played that's not actually Monster Hunter.

I definitely agree that Switch 2 third party support has been awesome for the Switch 2 so far, and that 2026 also looks incredible in terms of third party support. Now all it needs is Nintendo of America no longer being a butt and letting Hyperdimension Neptunia and other Japanese fanservice games release on their platform uncensored again.

That would make me want to get a Switch 2 100% for sure, even with the existence of Game Key Cards 😀.

Hey finally got a Switch 2+ Mario Kart World for my birthday (also Pac Man World 2 repac and Digimon Survive)

It struck me that even if you aren’t the biggest fan of the Switch 2’s first year lineup of games, you can’t exactly accuse Nintendo of ‘playing it safe’.

They let the Odyssey team make a madcap destruction-based DK platformer over a new 3D Mario. They let Sakurai make a sequel to a semi-obscure GameCube racing game instead of another Smash. Mario Kart World marks the biggest departure from the series’ basic structure since inception. We’re getting a new entry in the Metroid Prime series (which has always been well reviewed but never sold insanely numbers) for the first time in 18 years. Even Pokemon Z-A, despite its obvious shortcomings, took some risks by revamping the battle system.

Not everything has been a home run, and for people wanting more Mario, more Zelda, more Smash, perhaps there was some disappointment. But I think there’s something to be said for branching out and taking risks rather than just relying on iterations of the same tentpole franchises (which are still playable on Switch 2 anyway).

And despite the focusing on less popular franchises, the system seems to be selling well anyway!

Nice, that's exciting. Might I recommend Tomb Raider if you're in for a cheap, 4k 60fps quality 3rd party game. It's like $20 with some discounts. I beat it years ago, about to beat it again. Way more fun than it has any right to be. Good use of mouse aiming too (if using mouse mode, be sure to swap L3 and R3 in button mapping, which you can toggle on in settings to access easily in the Quick Access Menu), but you'll want a small firm mousepad. Amazon has Seihoo 8x10 for $11 for Black Friday. Really difficult to use mouse mode without having one of these to toss in your lap.

apologies for late reply, i have my launch switch still around, may one day get an oled if i can find it for a good price for those games which have issues on switch 2 but as it is now im fine with waiting to see if any of them are fixed in future firmware updates (also most of my time the past couple days has been dedicated to air riders)

was looking at the list earlier of improved games on switch 2, definitely feel that improvement in DQ builders 2, before exploring isle of awakening after building a lot on it was a stuttery nightmare now im getting minor hitching at worse (and smooth 60 on areas outside of IoA) the game looks really sharp too.
am considering getting round to NiNoKuni 2 due to the improvements (i imagine no potential memory leaks or crash issues) also curious to try Tales of Vesperia since i remember while it was always 60fps in battle (like the 360 and i assume ps3 version) on older consoles it was locked 30 outside of combat wheres switch 1 it was unlocked to 60 but rarely hit that outside of combat and apparently on switch 2 those outside areas now consistently hit 60 (curious again about things like crashing) also does make me with those newer tales remasters at least had the option to unlock the framerate so they could hit 60 on switch 2 (like Vesperia, they also had 60fps combat on older consoles but 30 on switch and apparently in graces it can cause input issues in combat)

but yeah have a few games to check out so will be kept busy and hoping that eventually one of those firmware updates manages to find the issue which causes the FMVs not to play (i think tomba had a similar issue though that just crashed the game so maybe its something with how some older games handled their FMVs)

Some bargain hunting stories. I had thrown some discounted credit on the eShop in anticipation of Prime 4 and told myself I wasn't getting anything else. But there's a Black Friday Sale offer that if you spend $60AU or more on any discounted games you get 2 months added to your active NSO subscription. Which works out to be worth a bit under $20AU given I have the family NSO+

So I grabbed Dave the Diver and Bayonetta Origins. Or should I say I grabbed Bayonetta Origins for effectively under $50AU, when you consider the sale and discounted eShop credit, and effectively got Dave the Diver for effectively nothing

Then additionally on the weekend my Mum was trying to work out something to get my sister for Christmas. We have a Secret Santa draw and she figured she might like "that game with the pink ball thing". So I went with Mum to JBs and had them price match Kirby Air Riders for $85AU (eShop is $110AU). Then I let my Mum use a $10 discount I had for JBs that was expiring next week. So, effectively, Kirby Air Riders for $75AU. Which isn't too bad at all

Bayonetta Origins is one of my favorite games on the Switch, actually. I loved the dual controller scheme. Hope you like it! I remember hearing it didn't sell much, which boggles my mind.

Nice deals! I picked up Air Riders for 60 bucks. At GameStop, nonetheless. I had some extra credit just sitting around.

Also getting BotW S2 edition off eBay for 50 bucks used.

Always look for deals, people!

It didn't hit a million sales so Nintendo never gave us an exact sales number. Which isn't surprising for a spinoff since Bayonetta 3 barely sold a million copies. The only Bayonetta game which sold super well was Bayonetta 1 and the majority of those sales were on non-Nintendo systems.

That said, I loved Origins also. I wish it had sold well.

That will probably be near the sale price as well.

Never understood why games like Bayonetta 2 and 3, Astral Chain, Xenoblade Chronicles and Metroid Prime only sell 1-3 million. Ppl gotta branch out and play more games. I spent years experimenting, trying out as many different well regarded games as possible, and discovered my tastes. Platinum Games action titles deserve so much more attention than they get. I think Metroid Prime 4 will do pretty well, like Fire Emblem broke out with Three Houses (which is probably around 5m sold now). Xenoblade Chronicles kinda needs a big NSW2 entry to do the same. I'm perplexed XCX didn't even hit 1m sold when, at least imo, it's the best one in the series (and runs best of all of them on NSW, and is the only one running at native 720p handheld and 1080p docked without dynamic res drops).

Anyways, tried out Inazuma Eleven and it's way more interesting than I anticipated. Also tried Hitman Absolution which, unlike Blood Money, is a PS3 title so graphics are a big step up, but retains gyro aiming unlike World of Assassination on NSW2. Also tried out R-Type Delta- a really good 2.5D remake.

10 days to Metroid Prime 4.

It might have hit 1 million this year but Nintendo usually only tells us when a game sold a million in a single fiscal year... and Xenoblade only had 12 days to sell in the previous fiscal year. People saving up for Switch 2 probably hurt the early 2025 game sales somewhat as well.

Personally, I explore well regarded third party games which go on 70-95% sales. Nintendo games are generally a little too steep for me to want to experiment on which is why I haven't played some of those games even though I want to.

Something im curious about regarding BC is regarding how the games with specific switch 2 patches but not switch 2 editions (like pokemon S/V, Dragon quest III HD-2D etc) are recognized, like for example to they still run or are affected by the transition layer but something specific allows them to be detected as running on switch 2 so the additional stuff is activated (like being able to swap between performance and graphics modes on DQIII) or are they somehow recognized as switch 2 games, i know with dragon quest III the file size on switch 2 is much bigger.

Unsure if its a somewhat silly question or not but was just something i was curious about and unsure if much is known.
