@rallydefault Why would I believe what you say, when you only really exist to blindly consume product and dismiss anyone with genuine issues or criticism?

Amusingly I often get nauseous with jerky frame timing, especially in games with confined cameras. So the Switch 2 is almost universally the better way to play these games that struggled to hit their targets on Switch. But I'm going to be honest, I've never once heard of anyone getting physically nauseous over scaling so I'm going to straight up call BS on that
As for the scaling of Switch games to Switch 2? Again, I'll repeat what I said. If the game had fine pixel level sprite work then any kind of uneven scaling will look crap. I know the struggles of this well, do you know how hard it is to find an acceptable platform to play GBA games on? Obviously one solution is to just throw more resolution at the problem and then any retro game can fit. But the number of times I've gone to start playing the fan translation of Mother 3 on a 640x480 screen and it's like.... 2x scaling is only 2/3rds of the screen, 3x is too wide. So you do a non-integer scale and then it's either blurry or the eyes change width when you walk around. Ugh. I understand the struggle there
And I would assume a similar thing is happening with 2D-HD games. To an extent the same thing would be happening with games that don't have any kind of AA treatment on Switch running on Switch 2. You get to 720p with no AA, you get the chonky AA edges, then you add to those chonky AA edges by scaling unevenly and it's not going to be a good time. Not ideal. Less of an issue I would say than we saw in the past given you're starting with a fairly decent pixel density as it is. And probably not so much of an issue in the instances where Switch games had decent IQ to start with. But still. Not ideal
........ but physically nauseating? Unplayable? Come off it
@skywake I didn't say I was nauseous over it. I said it gave me a headache. Mainly from eye strain due to the game being blurry and that not meshing well with the game's use of bloom and the pixelated graphics.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
It's like that YouTuber who put out that video who said the Pro Controller gave them RSI. I'm sorry but, no, it didn't. Dude is using the controller too much and just has RSI. The Pro Controller isn't why he got RSI. And in the same vein I reckon you've been playing too much and maybe aren't staying hydrated enough or need glasses or something. And you got a headache
Sort out your issues, don't blame the hardware for it
@skywake That isn't potaeto potahto though. Nausea and Headaches aren't mutually exclusive. You can have a headache without being nauseous, and nauseous without having a headache. They aren't the same thing, and aren't remotely even close. I should know given I have been getting headaches since I was a young kid.
I have glasses, and I played for about an hour or so with that giving me a headache. I drink water pretty frequently as well- given that's pretty much all I drink. The high amount of bloom, and the fuzziness of what was already lower resolution pixel art is what can contribute to having eyestrain, even if you're only playing for a short amount of time.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
I don't tend to like hyperbolic complaints about Nintendo either (especially as a Star Fox Zero enjoyer), but denying people's legitimate issues, no matter how specific they are, isn't cool. One is not inherently the other. Knock that **** off.
Also as someone who has found gaming to be occasionally more uncomfortable with my hands in recent years and in particular found 3DS to be disappointingly less comfortable to play for long sessions with quick timing centric games (mostly action games and also Rhythm Heaven), I'm sympathetic in particular to having specific issues with modern handheld Nintendo.
I should know given I have been getting headaches since I was a young kid.
and if it was exacerbating such an issue I would contend that they would be having issues with a whole range of content. I suggest that there is possibly some miss attribution of blame here
@VoidofLight
You're so consumed by your desperation to criticize that you don't even see the irony in your statement and actions.
I've criticized plenty about the Switch 2, many issues the very same you've raised. I think it's no longer easily portable. The battery life is terrible. The initial marketing push and information trickle from Nintendo has been bad.
But when I tell you I haven't experienced headaches or I've put dozens of hours into the Zelda upgrades without noticing the graphical things you're talking about? Or when I'm bold enough to say I like Mario Kart World? You hound me and call me a fanboy.
@rallydefault
Off topic, a bit, although since when am I not. I feel like we're probably around a similar age and we've certainly had our disagreements. But I do kinda feel like there's somewhat of a divide in the mentality we take to the interspheres and some of the slightly more green and likely much younger members do
I feel like the early 2010s and especially pre 2010s response to that, especially on the internet, was a bit more Jeffersonian in nature. A somewhat anarchistic free and open contest of ideas. The thought that the centralised, legacy, controlled, old way of doing things was rotten. Record labels, the news, Microsoft, the lot. The future was in open access to information, open discussion, the public square of discourse. It was about open source software, indie games, independent artists. And once everything is free and open and everyone has access to both post and see all this information? It'll be a utopia. And maybe we still somewhat naively onto those kinds of ideas
I feel like the younger generations are coming through with an entirely different perspective. They're raging against whatever rabbit hole their algorithm has told them to be enraged about. And unlike us where everything was level and when we had silly ideas we came to forums to have our opinions tested and toughened. These days the default is promoted comments and accelerated group think. I see this article or post or video saying this thing I agree with because I watched other such videos which I agree with. And under the comments is people doing the same promoting comments of people doing the same. Most of the forums of discussion they're used to are skewed in favour of people who agree with them
I don't know, just some shower thoughts there from an old bugger
I was just thinking about this little back-and-forth, and I came to the conclusion that this other person is probably a bit younger (and like you said, that’s not an insult, just an indicator of their experiences) and approaching this whole topic in a much different way than I am.
My opinions are my own, and not a product of an algorithm telling me to think what I should think. My opinions on the switch 2 aren’t just “outrage for the sake of outrage,” but actual genuine things that I’ve noticed which bother me. My opinion on the Zelda games is different because I’m more sensitive to weird graphical issues (once I pick up on them my mind can’t let them go), and because I feel like it’s sloppy for an upgrade you have to pay for. It’s something I would have expected to be fixed in an upgrade for the newest Nintendo console, and yet it feels like handheld mode players are left as second class citizens.
I feel like the notion that my opinions matter less because I an younger genuinely makes me not want to use this site anymore. It shows that if you say anything that actually happened to you, and actually bothers you- you’re just going to have people throw around that your opinion matters little because it’s either “performative” or “you’re just a young stupid kid.” I’m 23. I was raised in the 2000’s. I don’t use twitter, and I avoid watching Nintendo YouTubers. The idea that my thoughts are induced by algorithms in ludicrous.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
There’s an old saying: “If you assume, you make an ass out of u and me”
Some people like to assume that everyone with a different opinion than theirs cannot possibly have arrived at it on their own. That’s ignorant prejudice.
I didn’t stop using my Switch 2 because someone else told me to. I’m nearing 40, so I’m not “young”. I don’t watch gaming YouTubers nor use X or any social media. I bought the thing, wanted to like it, and didn’t. It’s that simple.
@OmnitronVariant
Sir, honest question: do you see the irony in what you’re saying?
…
you’re doing a heck of a lot of assuming of your own.
Also: aren’t you that guy who said he was gonna sell his Switch 2 and not hang around in a forum for a console he no longer owns? Apologies if I’m confusing you with someone else.
@VoidofLight
Did you decide to ignore the parts where both @skywake and myself said age doesn’t automatically make you right or wrong?
The problem you have is that you’re not open to picking up on nuance in what people think. From every discussion you’ve had with me, it’s pretty clear you want to see me in one way, no matter the evidence available to the contrary.
I think your complaints are real. I think their frequency and volume border on whining, which is what most of this forum has turned into.
The problem you have is that you’re not open to picking up on nuance in what people think.
Openness varies, but it's definitely true a lot of people on these forums aren't always great at picking up nuance. The text format and different language and cultural background certainly doesn't help.
Any Switch game that runs better on Switch 2, I installed on Switch 2. The rest I run on an overclocked Switch OLED.
Monster Hunter Stories 2 is 60fps locked now. Resident Evil 5, Revelations and Revelations 2 are 60fps locked now. Mario Rabbids > 60fps now. Bayonetta 3 is also a locked 60fps now. Ni No Kuni 2 is locked at 60fps. Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes is 60fps locked now. Cruis'n Blast, Bravely Default II, Trials of Mana, Neo The World Ends With You... all locked at 60fps now.
There's countless others too- these are just off the top of my head- games that received no patch. And many more lock at 30fps eliminating all frame drops. Basically, any game that had any issues... those issues are gone now. Wonderful 101, Triangle Strategy, Trials Rising, SMTV Vengeance, Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity, Astral Chain, Dragon Quest Builders 2... these all play fantastic now.
Throw officially updated and upgradable games on top of that, and there's a massive pile of Switch games best played on Switch 2. Pokémon Scarlet 60fps is a huge deal- I actually started playing it again, which I said I never would unless it got fixed. Yet here we are. It runs great now.
But having an overclocked NSW OLED for all the rest is nice because there's just not enough room for everything. And a few games are blurry in handheld but outputting docked image on the OLED at 720p transforms those games (Immortals Fenyx Rising, Wolfenstein 2, etc).
Then throw all the Switch 2 games on top of that- Mario Kart World, DK Bonanza, Cyberpunk, Fantasy Life i, Hogwarts Legacy, Rune Factory, Wild Hearts, Split Fiction, Tony Hawk 3/4, Yakuza 0, Romancing Saga 2, Street Fighter 6, and more I haven't even dug into yet (No Sleep for Kaname Date, Civilization VII, No Mans Sky, Kunitsu-gami).
Wasn't a fan of Shadow Labyrinth. They got me on that one. And Drag X Drive and Welcome Tour weren't as fun as Id hoped. Everything else though has exceeded expectations.
One of the most exciting things i've been doing is browsing Switch games finding ones that will get a glow up on Switch 2. I hear Outer Wilds is a gem, and its performance is fixed now. Might grab that. And Subnautica- that one is also fixed now.
While I dont play competitive shooters, Ive seen Fortnite and Apex Legends on Switch 2 and its really impressive. Especially with mouse aiming being added in on top of gyro aiming. And lots of people play those games. Minecraft is also fixed- its 30fps but everything runs stable and loads in correctly. Thats a big deal, as those 3 games collectively have a massive player base.
Also saw WWE 2k25 was ported by a studio Nintendo recently acquired which explains why its such a great port. And a standout for demonstrating how GameShare should work. As long as its between Switch 2 consoles and not Switch 1, it seems to work near flawlessly. Im gonna buy WWE 2k25. I just held off cause of WWE 2k18. But it seems they knocked it out the park this time.
I don’t know if that’s what is at play in this instance, though.
@JaxonH
Yea, it’s pretty crazy the improvements on some of these games. For me, it’s been so much fun doing a fresh run of Echoes of Wisdom with the patch and the improvements. And the battery life is pretty respectable when running the Switch games, even ones with graphics upgrades.
@rallydefault For me, It's probably moreso just how things get conveyed over text. I have a bit of an issue interpreting tone over text in some cases, and have on some occasions gotten upset at jokes or sarcasm because of it.

There have been times where I've specifically felt this way about Void's posts and have been annoyed by it, so my defending him in this instance should particularly stand out because of that.
Some people like to assume that everyone with a different opinion than theirs cannot possibly have arrived at it on their own. That’s ignorant prejudice. I don’t watch gaming YouTubers nor use X or any social media.
Said the paperclip
I mean, when your opinion on Switch 2 is so negative (on a fan forum no less) it extends to the view that even the Zelda Switch 2 editions are not much of an improvement over Switch OLED. That DK is derivative. That the 720p to 1080p upscale renders all games a downgrade over Switch. That Nintendo's platform is overpriced in comparison to PC handhelds
I would say I'm being generous to say you're bandwagoning here. It's bad because you had some pre-defined idea of what Switch 2 was and that moulded your narrative. Because if these are your genuine opinions after experiencing these things first hand.....
Let's just say I have to believe you've let yourself spiral into this take. Because, despite the internet suggesting to me otherwise over the years, I'm still a firm believer in the idea that people are capable of discarding junk opinions when presented with a good argument. And I try to practice what I preach in this regard
