@xenobladexfan you say that like he isn't playable in Sky 2nd. He's playable in SC, he just gets the staring role in Sky the 3rd.

Half-decent at Ace Attorney and horrible at strategy games, but I love them both.

@Bluelink45 I have never played that game before, falcom do that in their games:
introduce a character in a previous games and then make them playable in later entries.

A good example for this is trails into reverie with most characters from the crossbell games or cold steel games are playable in the game.

I really wish he had more screen time in trails beyond the horizon because his route is the most interesting in the game.

Does anyone know when Ys memories of Celceta is coming to switch because amazon uk have the game listed for April 28, 2026.

@xenobladexfan Amazon in the USA has it for June 30th. But what's funny is my actual preorder (which I made I Sept) says it doesn't have a date, and they'll let me know, but the site page listing says June 30th

A "Golden Wings Edition" for Sky 2nd Chapter was just announced (Gematsu). Though it's too rich for my blood at $275 (Switch 1, PS5, and PC) or $280 (Switch 2). Most I'm willing to spend for a special edition is around $100.

Though what I'm excited about is it looks like we'll be getting a real physical Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for $65. For those unaware, there has never been a NS2 Edition on a GKC, seemingly due to the requirement that products marketed as NS2 Editions must be playable on both Switch 1 and Switch 2. Though Switch 1 has had GKC-like cartridges, it seems actual GKCs do not support Switch 1 (thank God). There have been a couple code-in-a-box NS2 Editions (like Civ 6), but PM Studios is handling this release and they've been very good about using real cartridges on Switch 2.

@Dang_69 the thing about ys memories of celceta is that falcom themselves developed the game for switch with xseed only doing translation, so the game should be easy for the localisers to release, I really hope its coming out soon because a few uk retailers such as amazon and argos have the game listed for April.

@topsekret a physical switch 2 edition sounds really awesome, I hope Falcom do this strategy if they are releasing the game on switch 1, make a physical switch 2 edition,
I'm curious about the box art because the game in the photo is an unbranded box and also it would be good if Falcom bypass LRG because I had difficulty obtaining a physical copy at release day in the uk for sky 1st because of distribution issues.

I think the limited edition is too expensive, £120 or $100 is ideal for these:

@topsekret I'm praying that physical edition isn't just in the special edition set. Hell I'd even take another Switch 1 physical with an upgrade if i had to.

@xenobladexfan I know LRG had a hand in physical release for 1st, but it was only for the special edition contents. The ESRB standard edition was widely available at normal retailers in the US. I believe Clear River Games handled the PEGI version, right? But I don't think LRG will be involved with this one at all cause the pre-order for the ESRB special edition is already up on something called the "Panax Store" (never heard of it).

@Dang_69 The Gematsu article confirmed there will be a physical standard edition as well. $65 on Switch 2, $60 on the other platforms. Though it's unclear if it will get a wide retail release or if it will also be exclusive to this "Panax Store." Since the first game got a wide retail release, I'll bet this one will as well.

@topsekret in the uk the physical release was delayed for a couple of weeks because amazon told me that instead of release on 19.9.2025, the game was postponed to after 27.9.2025, I remember cancelling my order to get a digital copy instead, I have never had issues with nis europe's distribution but clear river games distribution really isn't good at all, at least for pre orders and launch day release.

Really hoping a different distributor handles sky 2nd chapter.

@xenobladexfan I don't think they've ever given an official release date, I'm pretty sure that the ones that retailers gave are just placeholders

they/them

I would take Sky 2R getting an actual physical copy as a good sign. As much as apologists push that keycards are totally successful and selling totally fine, clearly the actual companies selling them don't necessarily share the same opinion. Hopefully they will soon be relegated to the same infamy as "paper slip with a code" and "cartridge with giant mandatory forced download".

@Sylamp I was really hyped for that game, ys memories of celceta because it has a really good ost.

Really hoping it will come out in April like the retailers say it will.

Ys X: Proud Nordics is really good.

I'm just hitting Chapter 5, and spent about 10 hours in 60 fps mode, and another 5 hours in 120 fps mode. I've always been fine with stable 30 (like Final Fantasy 7 Remake) but obviously prefer 60 when I can get it. 120 has always felt like a waste...

Until now.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but switching back to 60 fps, swinging the camera seems stuttery by comparison now. And the visuals don't really suffer much compromise for the 120 either. Slightly shorter draw distance and marginally less foliage in trees off in the distance, with a small drop in resolution... and that's basically it. I can barely even tell the difference between modes.

And the game is super addictive. I did eventually have to turn difficulty down to Easy after encountering a sandworm boss that was absolutely wrecking me. Plus enemies felt so damage spongy on Normal. I think Easy is too easy though. Wish there was a difficulty right in between Easy and Normal.

@JaxonH I'm really enjoying the game as well, I already played ys nordics and finished it on switch 1 but the new version is amazing with the new island and characters, my favourite thing about ys games is the ost:
The new soundtracks in the game sound amazing also the lighting has been significantly improved over the switch 1 version.

Also there is good news for any physical collector as trails sky 2nd chapter on switch 2 is confirmed as physical:

Xeno series = max hype.
Falcom series = max enjoyment.

@xenobladexfan
Oh nice.

I switched to digital this generation and sold off all my physical Trails and Ys collector editions on Switch, except Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and Trails Beyond the Horizon which I forgot I had preordered.

I do still double dip for full, on-cart Switch 2 releases since I figure the total number will be relatively few and easy to collect for. I'll probably pick that up- the normal edition at the very least.

Just got to the new island added in for Proud Nordics. But I had progress blocked off in one direction and decided to just come back later. Currently in Chapter 5 and just landed at the destination island.

@JaxonH ys proud nordics is an excellent game, the new island's ost is amazing and justifies buying the game.

I can't believe falcom is 45 years old this year because their support on Nintendo ended with a few ys and legend of heroes games on the snes in the 90s and in the late 2010s early 2020s they returned with cold steel 3 and ys vii 8 and they have since become one of the best third party studios on Nintendo platforms.

Something to keep in mind is that Falcom started out as a primarily PC company, and largely remained that way until the mid 2000s. Even today, they may pick various consoles as their target platform for marketing reasons, but they provide better PC support than any other Japanese developer I can name. I suspect at heart, they still view themselves as a PC developer, in a way Squaresoft and Enix didn't even in the late 80s.

Or basically, the long from Nintendo platforms was largely related to this, combined with their lack of a localization partner for a good decade during their dark period from like 1994-2004.

metaphysician

XenobladeKisekiFan

@metaphysician that is true, the founder of monolith soft Tetsuya Takahashi, started his work at Falcom in the 80s,
Back then falcom was famous in japan because of popular pc games such as ys,

Even through ys x proud nordics and trails sky 1st chapter were developed for the switch as lead platform, the pc ports of those games are very good,

I wish falcom would port the Gagharv trilogy games to the switch because those games are lost due to inaccessility due to their dark period from 1994-2004,
Also some of their other franchises such as brandish, deserve another chance.

Oh, I would love to see more of their back catalog get rereleased and localized. Actually, I think nearly all their back catalog has been rereleased. . . but only in Japanese, via the "Project EGG" PC subscription service. This is almost certainly the same EGG as "EGG On Console", though I haven't confirmed it myself.

I think the issue with the Gagharv games is that they don't have the popularity of the Trails titles, but would still need roughly the same effort to translate. One can hope they get redone at some point, but its a longshot.
