Topic: Next Nintendo Direct?

@Grumblevolcano As an investor, I would want Nintendo to make money which in turn makes me money. Animal Crossing New Leaf sold around 12 million units. I think it's a relatively safe assumption that the new Animal Crossing game will at least match that and probably surpass it looking at some of the sales figures of other games on the Switch. Nintendo is focusing on marketing that game right now and potentially distracting gamers' eyes with new, hip, games coming later this year is counterintuitive to selling the game coming out in two weeks. Maybe they'll have a general direct next week since it's so close to release for Animal Crossing, but it may not happen until after. It will happen at some point though. Animal Crossing will make boatloads of cash and they'll move on to the next game.

If they have a direct next Tuesday for Mario day, it will probably be to either announce a port of Super Mario 3D World or a new Mario mobile game

@Bucky No mobile game has ever been announced or even mentioned in a direct afaik. Those always get announced at investor briefings. 3D World port seems likely but... I'm honestly on the boat that we're going to find out their holiday title is Super Mario Odyssey 2.

Nintendo find this funny. We are talking about when the direct will come. and they know. They will announce it and take us al by shock.

This may mean we won’t be getting anything Direct related for a while and may cause bigger problems going forward, even with employees working from home.

@tzahn Animal Crossing is going to sell tons regardless. Having a Direct next week won't have an impact on that.

Has Nintendo ever had such an open slate on their schedule before? It's Animal Crossing and then nothing has been officially announced. Has that ever happened, where they don't have a set release date for a single upcoming game?

@IceClimbers Agreed. I was just giving a reason why we might not see one until after the game comes out.

@Cubs017 Last year, we got all the way until the week before NSMBU DX before we got a release date for a single game. But we do have a major DLC release dated so...

@link3710 Yoshi and Fire Emblem were given Spring release windows though. It's not a specific release date but it's less vague than we have regarding 2020's upcoming lineup now.

Hope all the employees are staying safe. I don't mind waiting if it means no one gets sick. Though I know eventually they'll have to give information, whether to us or investors

So Nintendo is letting employees work from home. How can you run Nintendo from home?

@DannyBoi Nintendo of America. They don't make any games. They do translations, and a bunch of marketing and advertising (among other things). Most of that can be done from a computer, anywhere.

@Octane So Nintendo can be run from home. Can games be developed from homs?

Nintendo of Japan I am assuming are still working? Japan seems to be going into a bit of lock down with the way schools etc have been closed. It’s interesting also that Bungie have sent all their staff to work from home. Wonder how that works.

Ok so I'm fairly convinced it's happening this coming week so here are my realistic predictions of what we're getting. (Obviously my wildest hopes would be a bit more imaginative)

-Long 10 minute Xenoblade Trailer that acts as a kind of mini-direct for the game. Explains it as if it's a completely new game for newcomers. Announces release date of May.

-Super Mario 3D World Definitive Edition. Pretty straight direct port of the Wii U game, but adds a completely new world to the game in order to try and get second-time buyers interested. Announce release date of June/July.

-Bayonetta 3 gameplay reveal trailer. Very advanced graphics. Platinum's biggest game ever, incorporates more exploration elements. Announces 2020 release, exact date will be given at E3 (and will end up releasing around October/September time)

-New Paper Mario RPG in the style of Thousand Year Door. Same visuals as Colour Splash though, which looked incredible! Announces 2020 release date, exact date will be given at E3 and will be November/December)

-Metroid Prime Trilogy HD: They've used the delay for Prime 4 to further polish this and update things like the textures. Will get a 2020 release and will also get an exact date given at E3, will also be November/December.

-Second short teaser trailer for Breath of the Wild 2. Will get proper announcement at E3 and will end up being March 2021 release.

@Dezzy You think Nintendo would bother adding a new world to 3D World? I don’t think they’ll do that, they know it’ll sell because there’s millions who never owned the Wii U so it’s an easy port for easy money. Why spend resources on something they don’t need.

The longer this goes the more I believe they will sell metroid prime games individually versus as a trilogy. What motivation do they have to release the games in a bundle. Nintendo fans are starving for games and they would pay full price for a metroid prime HD version. Then 8 months later part 2 comes out at again full price. And then another 8 months later 3. Theoretically 4 might be ready not long after that. The only reason to bundle them is to win good will. They are still selling the switch like hot cakes. They already have the good will. Sure Sony and or Microsoft would bundle but that's not how Nintendo does things.
