@Atomic77 Well I can tell you whats it going to be about. They will take 30 minutes to tell you the origin story of Metroid then tell you the release date has been pushed back to 2021.
@A_Kirby_fan Two or three weeks, which is what it almost always is. Looks like I miiiight be wrong about the April 1st direct. Or maybe it's an Indie World coming, who knows.
They updated the playlist 1 week before the Animal Crossing Direct. It was Feb 13th, then Direct on Feb 20th.
Looks like next Thursday might be a candidate for the Direct. Guess they're not worrying too much about having it too near to AC launch.
@Dezzy Huh, I swore it was either two or three. Guess that's what I get for not looking it up lol. But yeah, that'd make more sense, next week is the last week I could reasonably expect it before April. We might be getting more AC details considering the timing...? Odd.
I tell you something I'd really love in this Direct, but I'm not actually expecting to happen, and that's a new Star Fox game.
I thought the Wii U game was brilliant except for that hideous control scheme. It sold abysmally though apparently.
Can someone go into more detail about what ‘updating the playlist’ actually means? How do you update a list without adding or taking away something from it? Specifically what has changed?
@Maxz Updating the playlist means something has been added or removed. On Youtube you can upload videos that are unlisted (only people with the link can watch the video) and they appear hidden in playlists until they're listed.
So in the context of the Directs, an unlisted Direct may have been uploaded and added to the Direct playlist which won't become visible to the general public until it's been listed.
It's just an auto-alert that youtube sends out whenever they change anything about the playlist, so it can mean absolutely anything. Just renaming an old video to correct a spelling mistake would probably trigger the alert. Given the timing though, the overwhelming likelihood is what Grumble said. They've just added the new Direct but it's currently hidden from public viewing.
Thank you both for the explanations! I had no idea the that YouTube generated auto-alerts, or that videos could be ‘uploaded’ and yet remain invisible to the public.
If there is a Direct next week, MAR10 does seem a likely candidate (especially if there’s Mario news, and this being Nintendo, there’s nearly always something Mario related). But still, we probably should keep our expectations in check until something is officially announced.
I’m going to just say it. It’s a Hey Pikmin DX focused Direct with 40 minutes on showing you a Switch port of the 3DS game with nothing new other than HD textures.

Regarding directs....i can see them switching to 1 big general direct a year and focus more on game specific directs. Fact is times and management have changed. Iwata and Reggie are not around anymore. Furukawa may not be as enthused about directs.
It's getting kind of late for an announcement that there will be a Direct this week. They usually announce them a day or two before, and it's already Thursday afternoon on the East Coast.
