Topic: Next Nintendo Direct?

I think random game updates with Switch 2 improvements will just keep trickling out whenever for quite awhile. I suspect they wanted to get this one out of the way before a direct since it isn't quite exciting enough for the first party portion of a direct.

Yeah, I'm not super interested in this update because I'm not super interested in revisiting DKCR. But this happening does bode well for continuing updates for Switch games to target Switch 2

I think it's reasonable to assume that upcoming titles like Rhythm Heaven will get the same from day 1. Which is what we saw with Galaxy also. Although this does also make that Pikmin 4 update stand out even more

@Grumblevolcano @Bolt_Strike Ahh, I forgot that Spring 2016 was when they were revealing the Switch, so it makes sense that they held off on a big reveal like previous generations and settled for a tease. People are discussing there could be a chance of them re-releasing Pokemon Red, Blue, and Green again on Switch- but I dunno if they'll end up pulling that or not. Here's to hoping it'll be a standard reveal of Gen 10 at the least.

@skywake This Donkey Kong update gives me a bit more hope that Tomodachi Life Living the Dream will end up getting a day one update like Super Mario Galaxy did on Nintendo Switch 2.

@Dev-N To me, it's sort of funny how we got the release of DK Country Returns last year around this time, and now we're getting the update announcement when we were wanting news about other games.

I really think Tomodachi Life will get a Switch 2 edition. That game is practically begging for game chat features and special mouse mini games.

@FishyS I feel like they would've announced that it was getting a Switch 2 edition last Direct if it were.

Not to put too much stake in various rumours and leakers but it looks like the 5th is being alluded to for the Direct.
Nate the Hate has a podcast coming soon apparently so we'll probably find out from that whether these reports have any worth.

@Nintoz I feel like Nate rarely actually confirms dates. He got the Switch 2 release date right but I suspect he just doesn't usually know such precise information ahead of time even if he has indication a presentation is coming soon ish.

Since the rumours have been coming from less reliable sources I'm guessing it is more logic than leaks right now — e.g. Nintendo almost never misses a February direct and the most common timing in recent years has been right after the financial release, so Feb 4 or 5.

@VoidofLight In an alternate reality where Switch wasn’t delayed I’d imagine the October 2016 teaser would’ve happened in March/April 2016 and then the January 2017 presentation would’ve been at E3 2016.

As for Gen 1 at the Pokemon Presents, I don’t think so with the only NSO presence being the already announced Colosseum/XD for GCN NSO.

@Dev-N Nice timing, I had finished Path of Radiance but didn’t make much sense starting a new game with FFVII Remake so close.

I want to see the classic Pokémon games sold individually once again, with Home compatibility (and perhaps a physical cartridge that includes all of them?). I would gladly pay money to actually own them without paying a yearly subscription.

It’s true they may drop Colosseum/ XD on 2/27 but that doesn’t necessarily mean Gen 1 won’t be released. Switch 1 owners with NSO subscription would feel left out if only the GameCube Pokemon games are released. Besides, they might just release the Gen 1 games outside of NSO for purchase which is what I hope they will do.

I feel like Nintendo realizes that the Xenoblade upgrades are so desired, which is why they’re saving them for the direct. DKCRHD on the other hand is probably a lot less exciting for most people. This might just be wishful thinking though… we haven’t even gotten Xenoblade on Nintendo music

@SplatRay001 Xenoblade is probably a harder franchise for them to get on the app because I believe the composers own the right to the OSTs for those games? I know that X's soundtrack is owned by Sony at least due to Sawano being under their record label.

I know for a while you used to be able to purchase the soundtracks through iTunes- but they're delisted now. You can still buy them if you had them wish-listed though- since I have both Xenoblade 2 and Xenoblade 3's OSTs on iTunes.

@Nep-Nep-Freak Surely that is the way they would go as they'd make way more money selling them than get NSO subs, right?

Also I never thought of them on carts! They could easily sell all of Gen 1, 2 and 3 on three separate carts charge like $40 each boom they'll fly off the shelves!

Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park is coming out on March 26, 2026 according to a new trailer on Nintendo Today.

Switch 2 edition news is low-hanging fruit to clear the way for more new stuff to show in a Direct. I’m not worried.

Talking flower was also dated for march 12.
Neither wonder upgrade nor talking flower had a price that I saw.

I think if they keep up this trend we will only get a indie/partner direct before March.

We should at least get another movie direct.

@Dev-N I agree, this feels like an update they have to do before a Direct, so it doesn't get overshadowed.

The pure number of game updates and announcements this week makes me feel they are definitely clearing their queue for bigger announcements soon.

@Dev-N I think whether Nintendo repeats June this month and pairs major Splatoon 3 update with Splatoon Raiders news will be the major indicator of how they’re approaching February.
