@Magician I’ve always assumed Metroid Prime 4 made sense even if it’s not that big Zelda type game. My concern with it being another big 3D Mario game would mean that there’s no major Mario game next year, the year the movie launches

@FragRed a expansion pass/DLC for Pokemon Scarlet e Violet might the big holiday game for 2023, Metroid is not huge to be a holiday release(Nintendo is saving the next 2D/3D Mario for it next gen console, so the only option left is more Pokemon), @Magician the launch games of Switch sucessor might be, the next 3D/2D Mario, next Animal Crossing or Splatoon, some ports of PS4/Xbox One games, two timed exclusive for a major third party company(Capcom or Square Enix), return of a long dormant franchise(F-Zero or Star Fox), Mario Kart 9, a new IP for Nintendo and gen 10 from Pokemon).
@Giancarlothomaz It’s not gonna be Splatoon because they have I think a 2 year content plan for the third game and I can’t see a new Animal Crossing launching year one. But a new Mario Kart, that should be a given. As for dormant franchises, doubt we will see either F-Zero or Star Fox for a very long time. I do think a new IP they’ll hope to be the next big thing is possible, like how they obviously hoped Arms was going to be until it wasn’t. To be honest I’m totally out the loop on Pokémon. Tried several times to play them and I just don’t get the excitement so I wouldn’t know about any big expansions but I assume there are some.

@FragRed If it launched in 2024, I'd guess the launch year lineup would be something like:
Metroid Prime 4
Wind Waker HD/Twilight Princess HD
Galaxy 2 or NSMB collection (if 2023 gets a new 3D Mario then NSMB collection, if 2023 gets a new 2D Mario then Galaxy 2)
Gen 2 or Gen 5 Pokemon remakes
MK8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass 2
Mario Party Superstars 2
A new IP
But honestly I think the Zelda OLED could be easily be fake (could go either way), it's just the box (rather than the box and the console) and there's lots of people who have done convincing fakes in the past.
My Switch 2 predictions now that we pretty much know for sure it isn't releasing during H1 2023.
> Announce in late 2023
> Launch in March 2024
> Uses the "Drake" SoC that was leaked from the Nvidia data breach in early 2022
> Supports 4K via DLSS and features (a primitive form of) ray-tracing
> Backwards-compatible with Switch
> Launch window titles: New 3D Mario game, Mario Kart 9, Metroid Prime 1 Remake, Tears of the Kingdom 4K Complete Edition, Splatoon 3 4K Edition
Backwards compatibility will make-or-break my interest in the Switch successor. If Nintendo and Nvidia are unable to offer an elegant solution for running Switch 1 games on Switch 2, I won't have a reason to purchase a Switch 2. I have no qualms about leaving the platform behind if Nintendo asks their customers to build their collection from scratch.
I hope nobody assumes b/c is a given...because it isn't.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,540 games (as of January 28th, 2026)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
@FragRed a new Animal Crossing is possible on the Switch sucessor yes, the development division responsible for Splatoon also work on Animal Crossing(they share developers)
@Mars_ Nah, I think it would be like Pokemon Black 2/White 2 (released for DS in the 3DS era) where it's a current Switch game that you can play on Switch 2. I don't think there'd be any Switch 2 exclusive 1st party games in the launch year as the successor itself would be a gigantic risk (Nintendo has nothing to fall back on if it fails).
Yep, as long as the next console has backwards compatibility like 3DS had with DS then it makes more sense to release WW/TP remasters as Switch titles. The new machine could render the games at 4K res, but they couldn't advertise it in the title because Switch cannot.
@Grumblevolcano Interesting. You think they’ll just continue supporting the current Mario Kart instead of creating a new one that could showcase the power of the new machine?

@FragRed Given MK8 Deluxe is basically approaching MK Ultimate status, I think they'll have MK8 Deluxe continuing to get retro tracks until pretty much all of them are in the game meanwhile a new MK goes in a very different direction which also showcases the power of the new machine as the new MK wouldn't really be able to compete content wise with MK8 Deluxe.
@Grumblevolcano But then why wait until new hardware is out to announce a second season? It’s not like any effort is being used to port these tracks over. And it’s not something you can easily advertise as the reason to upgrade even if it did 4K.

@FragRed What I had in mind was announcing more tracks are coming as the current pass approaches the end rather than specifically announcing with Switch 2. With Smash the September 2019 Direct announced Banjo's release date, Terry as the 4th fighter of the pass and that more fighters were coming after the pass was complete. So for more tracks, either at E3 2023 along with wave 5 announcement or in September 2023 Direct along with wave 6 announcement.
@Magician for Switch sucessor to be a sucess, it need to have a completely new concept/inovation like AR/VR(dont continue the hybrid concept of Switch), have full backward compatibly with Switch games, have suficient graphical/techinal power so Switch sucessor so could have most of the PS4 games, have a reanoble price, have a stronge line up during it launch period
@Grumblevolcano If 2024, I don't think we'll see Pokemon make the move to the next console until gen 10, sort of like how they did with the 3DS, where they didn't make the move until Gen 6.
I also assume that a new console in 2024 would more than likely get Mario Kart 9, rather than more 8 DLC.

@VoidofLight I wasn't thinking any of the games I listed would be specifically Switch 2 games, rather Switch games that release during the launch year of the Switch 2 if it released in 2024. Switch has the same situation as PS4 where the userbase is so gigantic that releasing next gen only games early on is very risky.
Sony backtracked on Miles Morales, Sackboy, Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7 and GoW Ragnarok being PS5 exclusive to release PS4 versions at the same time as the PS5 versions. Now 2 years later, games sell much better on PS5 than PS4 so Sony's seemingly dropping PS4 support outside of live service.
@Grumblevolcano Eh, The ps5 only didn't have exclusives at launch because of the circumstances surrounding the supply of the console. Most people weren't getting the actual console in their hands, so they sort of had to neuter a lot of the PS5 exclusive titles by making PS4 versions in order to sell the games.
Also, Gen 9 isn't getting Gen 5 remakes. That's going to be Gen 10.
