@FragRed
I was under the impression that Meta's poor financial performance over the last few months was due to their metaverse not taking off, not because people were abandoning Facebook.

Regardless, Nintendo will never stop doing Directs unless YouTube and other video streaming websites stop existing.

@westman98 Yeah, Meta's poor stock value is because they're getting big into the Metaverse stuff, which'll never take off.

Miiverse needs to come back. Twitter is just a pile of garbage now. Although it was never that great to begin with.

Currently playing: Pokemon Soul Silver, Mario RPG

I'd rather Miiverse stay in my memories. A modern take would just end up being twitter but worse. The original was special because it was a mess with moderation and existence in general. It wasn't toxic, but just weird and funny.

@VoidofLight It was a perfect window into the world of 2013

Looking back, maybe Miiverse could find a place in this current moment as Elon gradually pushes Twitter into death spiral...

@Eagly Nah, Miiverse got shut down because it was a failed experiment. A glorious one, but a failed one. It was full of people drawing NSFW images, and posting random non-sense. The Admin were AI, but it didn't seem to be doing a good job at fixing the platform. Miiverse was pretty much a garbage fire, and that's what made it so good in the first place.

@VoidofLight Cool concept, but will and was always destined to turn into a dirty bathhouse.

I think a social Media but for moose would be much more tolerable!

Why do I get the feeling that everyone is becoming a moose?

That Splatoon 3 announcement pretty much deconfirms Direct happening this year. Seems clear at this point December has no retail 1st party releases but instead Nintendo will fill the month with DLC and content updates in its place.

Ok here are my messy thoughts on the nominees:

Yessss Splatoon 3 for Best Multiplayer Game and Family Game!! I also think Bayo 3 could win Best Action Game. Tears of the Kingdom will absolutely win the most anticipated. Some great Nintendo representation this year; I felt last year was pretty light on their stuff overall. I feel bad for Xenoblade 3 because I feel like it would win if it wasn't stacked up against games like Elden Ring. I'll still vote for it in its respective categories so it may still have a fighting chance.

Holy cow Elden Ring and Ragnarok are gonna take home so many awards.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 being nominated for GOTY is a surprised to be sure, but a welcome one.

It's intriguing the situation regarding March:

  • BotW was given a March 2017 release in April 2016
  • The February 2018 release wasn't announced until the Game Awards (Bayonetta 1+2) and Nintendo didn't give Kirby Star Allies a March 2018 release until the January 2018 Direct Mini
  • Yoshi's Woolly World wasn't given a March 2019 release until a standalone trailer in January 2019.
  • E3 2019 revealed Animal Crossing New Horizons for March 20th 2020 though an extra March game (Pokemon Mystery Dungeon remake) was announced in a January Pokemon Direct
  • Nintendo treated MH Rise as the March 2021 release which got its release date in the September 2020 Partner Showcase
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land was given its March 2022 release date in a standalone trailer in January 2022

So the situation is mostly that the March release is confirmed in January but Pokemon Mystery Dungeon remake is the only case where the game is announced in January. Looking at the already announced games that don't have release dates:

  • Pikmin 4 - 2023
  • Metroid Prime 4 - TBA
  • Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp - TBA
  • Detective Pikachu - TBA

Definitely not Prime 4 and Pikmin 4 would've been given a Spring 2023 release timing in the Direct if it was considered for March.

So I do feel the March release is going to end up being either Detective Pikachu being given a release date in a January 2023 Pokemon Presents which also announces an Expansion Pass for Scarlet/Violet or Advance Wars resurfaces in early January with a March release date.

Really hoping for an Eternal Darkness port. Never had the chance to play it due to not having a Gamecube and I've always wanted to see what I missed.

@Grumblevolcano
Small correction: Breath of the Wild was only given a generic 2017 release year in April 2016. The NX itself was given a more specific March 2017 release window.
It wasn't until the January 2017 Switch presentation when Nintendo revealed that BOTW would be a Switch launch title.
