My son got a switch 2 for Christmas. Just realized he needs a protective case for it. He will also need a carrying case. What do you all recommend for a slim protective case that fits in a not so big carrying case?
i can't say much on dealing with bigger cases, but for a protective case, tomtoc is a good brand, very slim and good quality despite being fairy cheap.
Travel cases that insure more protection will be bigger then a slim case if you want to insure protection. Also get a good temper glass protector as well. I use a JSAUX Carrying Case for Nintendo Switch 2 it's bigger and has room to carry charger and extra games but alot depends on how portable gaming is he going to do. This will determine what protective cases one uses. I am getting a TiMOVO Dockable Case for Nintendo Switch 2 as another option if I want to be able to remove the JoyCons2 for mouse mode as well. But right now I am using DBrand case that can detach the JoyCons2. So that another thing he need to decide on as well.

I'll let others recommend cases, but hear me on this, please. You NEED a tempered glass screen protector asap. Preferably to be applied within 10 seconds of the system being pulled out of the plastic sleeve.
The screen is so delicate your fingernail can scratch it. I am the most careful person there is and even my Switch 2 got a scratch on the screen despite putting a screen protector on it within minutes of opening the box. I had to use Novus 321 and scrub out the scratches, took 45 minutes and left a huge dulled splotch, but after applying the new glass it appears flawless.
They now make auto-align glass where you just set the plastic frame around the console, pull the tab and it auto-applies perfectly. Don't buy the cheap am-Film brand ones. The glass has imperfections.
Here's the one I used. And I've done it 3 times. All flawless first try. Once initially, again after removing to scrub out the scratch, and a third time on the replacement NS2 I bought before I realized I might be able to fix the scratch.
