@Truegamer79 It's not a bad game but it's definitely not a £75 game, not by a long shot. There's clearly room left in the game for DLC, so charging more than other games is an insult to fans.
It's decent, but if it didn't have the Mario Kart name attached to it, it wouldn't get the same pass it's getting from people now.
@NeonPizza
Yea, I felt like 200cc was never really made for MK 8 because of how tight the tracks were. But MK World... 200cc is definitely coming. The karts are more nimble, there are stretches of road that will be INSANE on 200cc (traffic and the bridges and grind rails and wall rides).
Initial thoughts after a couple of hours, mostly just playing through GP mode.
Yep to echo comments above, it's good but not $100 (UK prices!) good. Grand Prix mode just frustrates me so much, IMO spending 75% of most races driving to the course on mostly straight, open roads, to only have one lap of the actual course is a crazy choice, if you aren't giving the option to increase it to 3 laps, or to avoid the commute between races entirely. It felt like a small annoyance initially, but has now totally soured me on this mode.
Hoping knockout is more fun, not tried this yet, as I wanted to get all the GP trophies and race Rainbow Road (which is absolutely amazing!).
The tracks are good, but only a few (RR, boo cinema, the DK one) really stood out initially, whereas the MK8 tracks seemed more memorable straight off the bat.
The people who keep talking about “straight open roads” strike me as those who either haven’t played above 100cc or only have a few hours in the game on like the first two circuits.
There are certainly some open areas, but as you get faster and as you explore the game more, rarely are those areas places where you just drive straight. The gameplay is there to do some crazy stuff.
@rallydefault Yeah it honestly feels like I'm playing a different game to others when I hear these comments about the courses / grand prix. Personally I think the tracks are phenomenal - there's always something happening.
My only complaint about the grand prix is that it's maybe too chaotic. Items absolutely everywhere from all directions.
As long as there's still a way to play traditional Mario Kart races, I don't mind the intermissions. Once I'm done getting three stars in Grand Prix, I usually play VS races a lot more anyway.
Personally, I love some of those intermissions. My favorites for now would be the road from Desert Hills to Shy Guy Bazaar when you're gliding and driving across the huge desert and driving across the castle walls in front of Bowser's Castle.

Yikes! Yet, 200cc felt off with MK8 Deluxe simply because the game itself was never designed around that level of speed to begin with, nor the tracks. The karts just simply can't turn or carve deep enough around corners, nor quick and responsive enough with that level of speed in mind. 200cc forces you to play the game differently because of that.
Hopefully that's not the case with MKW. The earlier MK games just controlled differently, and allowed you to really dig around the tracks with ease, if you were good enough. But now, the kart in MK8 Deluxe almost feel tank-like with their steering.
While playing MKW 150cc grand prixs, I'm finding sharp turns that I must fat finger my thumb to drag the brake when I drift/turn just to make these sharp turns, just like you have to for MK8's 200cc. So, that mechanic is part of MKW.
js got the rainbow road one of the prettiest virtual areas ive ever encountered, this game is so worth everything.
also how to easily get the characters unlockable via kamek cause im confused since i have not gotten any from that item
BRING NINJI INTO MARIO KART WORLD RIGHT NOW.
five favorite games of all time:
1. minecraft
2. splatoon 3
3. earthbound
4. xenoblade chronicles 3
5. zelda tears of the kingdom
It took a while but I found a downside (for me) for MKW. No mii or amiibo support. Mk8 pretty much taught me not to use the actual game characters. I do think that mkw is trying to go to a more classic presentation (since the actual game is pretty chaotic and expansive) but here’s hoping they add support later. Also finding out the characters hum if you idle on the character select screen is adorable.
Edit: koopa troopa super heroes are flying around on patrol. This game is hilarious.
Taiko is good for the soul, Hoisa!

I'm a Dream Fighter. Perfume is Love, Perfume is Life.
Can someone tell me what the point system gives? Like when I select an online mode, I have a score attached to every mode? What is it for?
Also, this game is really good. But Nintendo charging $80 (I got the bundle, so worth it) is obvious just screwing over consumers. So many other high budget games not charging that.
Overall I am genuinely 'having fun' with MKW. I'm actually not really a huge fan of the franchise... but this is more due to racing games never having really been in my rotation. I enjoyed MK64 and Diddy Kong Racing back in the day, but probably haven't played a racer since.
I actually think MKW is amazing value for money, IF you got it as part of the Switch2 bundle. However, the stand alone price tag for this game is (IMO) pretty outlandish.
One thing that really niggles me is the Grand Prix mode, and how the initial lap/s of each race are essentially traversing from one biome/track to the next? I would have much preferred the old-school 3 laps of a given course. In fact, the open world could have been scrapped altogether I think - with P-Block challenges perhaps just been available from a drop down menu or something?
Knockout mode is where this game really sings though I think, and especially in multiplayer. Such a great 15 minutes dopamine hit!
I never fully understood the concept of rage-quitting until I began Multiplayer MKW. I kind of love & hate (in equal measure) how you can essentially play a perfect race but then get utterly screwed over by the wrong power up hitting you with 20 seconds left!
Anyone else get a little annoyed when you noticed that 2 tracks are each used in 2 Grand Prix? It originally looked like we were getting 32 tracks, but there are actually only 30. They’ve never done that in a MK game (except for multiple versions of the same track way back in SNES) and doing it on their first $80 game is really frustrating…
The game crashed when I finished an online race. I was playing Oasis Wario at Peach Stadium in a normal race. All I did was go from last to fifth at the finish line with a Bullet Bill and Golden Mushroom. Too much happening at the end?
I can't get enough of this game I absolutely love it. Just unlocked Rainbow Road and wow, it is an amazing track, the visuals when driving around it are incredible.
I'm hoping that the open world gameplay is going to roll over to the next main Mario game, so the next Mario game will be completely open world. We have Mario Kart World, so maybe Super Mario World will be the next game - oh how good that would be. They can do it with Zelda, so no excuse not to do it with Mario. Come on!
@rallydefault 3 stars is 60 points right? So basically finishing 1st place in each of the 4 legs?
I seem to be doing OK and managing to get gold trophy... but maxing out coming 1st in each leg seems near impossible (!) Maybe RNG hates me, but I seem to run perfect races, only to be utterly screwed over last minute by an unlucky power up and/or 'act of god' bad luck?!
