Hrm... I've played like 30 hours of Echoes of Wisdom on my Switch 2 at this point, and I haven't noticed any difference from playing it on my Lite in terms of input lag.

But Echoes does have a specific Switch 2 update, so maybe that helps? I don't know.

I did play Trials of Mana and Alex Kidd remastered on my Switch 2 and didn't notice anything there, either, and those don't have update patches.

This was one of the things which confused me regarding the other topic, naturally i dont have a way to measure the lag but going by the other topic it sounded like the lag they were mentioning was something that you could see and feel which was what got me curious about the cause since it was mentioned that it was the "emulation layer"

The issue was it does feel like if it was a widespread issue there would have been quite a few mentions of it similar to the ones with the GC emulation or various retro collections but again i dont think Digital foundry even mentioned it and they usually go pretty in depth into the technical stuff (also those people in the shmup community since if theres any groups which would notice input latency it would be shmup players or competitive fighting game players) which does make me wonder if its something on other peoples end like how having the HDR setting on for all games can cause some to be more washed out iirc.

Again though its something which the only way you would be able to get definitive proof is either from having the games side-by-side or by measuring it using specific tools,

@Mgalens I'm a shmup and fighting game player. I just posted in another topic about input lag and linked to some actual numeric tests that some hardcore players did.

TLDR: It seems most games have the same input lag as on Switch 1, but some have less.

I have yet to see any evidence of a game having worse input lag on Switch 2 compared to Switch 1, but if you've seen any, I'd be very curious to know.

Ty for the reply that was reassuring.

i think Noodalls was one of the people i found when looking up info on it, i think i also saw someone test it with splatoon and there was not really much difference either, while the tests were using the controller i imagine if it was the emulation layer itself then it would also affect both modes (unless it somehow only affected handheld but i imagine some of the people doing the tests also tried handheld)

@Mgalens Is this the Splatoon video you're talking about? Seems to indicate no difference, but I also wouldn't put too much stock in the absolute numbers measured for lag in the menu as representative of the actual gameplay. I've played Splatoon 3 for over 1000 hours and there's absolutely no way it has 8-9 frames of input lag during gameplay lol.

One thing I'm still wondering about is whether or not Nintendo actually fixed the issue where the Pro Controller has an extra frame of input lag on Switch 1 over a wired connection compared to Bluetooth (this video from Shmup Junkie shows the problem pretty clearly).

Welcome Tour claims that the Switch 2 Pro Controller is faster over wired compared to the original Switch Pro Controller, but I've yet to see anyone actually measure the data to verify this claim. I'd be really curious to see how much faster it is (if at all). If it's 1 frame faster then it's no different than Bluetooth, but if it's 2 or more frames faster, then it's actually better than Bluetooth. And if that's the case, I'd go out and buy a 10 ft USB cable lol.

oh yeah thats the video, i guess it can also be sometimes hard to find some info since ive seen a few articles and sites refer to the gamecube emulation as "backwards compatibility" so searches regarding latency and BC would often direct to that.

Though as i mentioned in the other article i did try using my launch switch and switch 2 side by side and they felt very much the same to control (barring the general feel of the buttons themselves, maybe its over time but switch 1 the buttons felt more "loose") the games i tried were octopath 2 and sonic Mania though also as mentioned i dont have any specific means of measuring so i cannot confirm anything regarding handheld (also knowing how my brain works if i suspect there is any latency chances are i could even end up tricking my brain into feeling something through paranoia alone)

the other topic has largely turned into a more heated discussion about nintendo themselves and while i didnt want to derail this topic by mentioning the topic of latency i mentioned here because it seems like the topic where those most familiar with BC are so im thankful for the replies here.

i did end up trying "rhapsody the marl kingdom chronicles" on switch 2 (localization of 2 rpgs from nippon ichi) and it seems like it was listed as having its launch issues "fixed" though in this case it feels like "fixed" just means the game boots since i tried the first of the 2 games on the collection and visually everything is very messy, the screen scrolling tends to stutter and theres what looks like screen tearing but for some reason happening diagonally again it looks really messy.

honestly though it does make me happy that theres topics like this trying to document BC since the compatibility listing can be hit or miss, an example being Trails from zero and Trails to azure, 2 amazing rpgs which are listed as having no issues but while the games can be finished several of the FMVs dont show, and like a bunch of older RPGs they tend to save the FMV scenes for big moments so people playing on switch 2 will miss these (its kind of like if you were playing FFVII and got to THAT part but none of the FMV scenes showed)

im not sure usually what the best method of contact is for these kinds of things but from what i gather they seem like the kinds of issues where unless people (politely) make a stink about them then they will often be overlooked since the games are shown as "compatible" i did end up sending an email to the support team at nippon ichi (who published the trails games on switch) mentioning the issues and while im not expecting much of a reply i feel its better than saying nothing at this point.

again just a little vent but am very happy about forum threads like this since they are a good source of info.

Do the Jackbox games run well on Switch 2?

@Mgalens Keep us posted with what NISA says. I haven't played those games yet myself, but they're in my backlog. It would be annoying to have to bust out the old Switch 1 for the best experience.

i think last thing i heared was that it was being forwarded to PR, am unsure whether or not will be a reply but am hoping that it can either be fixed with a patch or maybe even as a result of a firmware update. (those stability updates are even more interesting with switch 2 because of those BC improvements which came with some)

on the subject of games on switch 2 has anyone tried the spyro reignited trilogy for a long period of time, i hear loading is better especially from title but curious if the game has issues such as crashing.

its one of those things which can be hard to look up since when mentioning spyro next to the word "crash" most searches and whatnot seem to think you are talking about the bandicoot.

@Mgalens
I love the Spyro collection on Switch! I haven’t tried it yet on my Switch 2, but those are games I go back to every now and then, so I’ll post here when I do.

Mgalens

@rallydefault cheers, yeah i also love those games and was really happy with how the switch port turned out and from what i hear the switch 2 load times are improved which was one of the few issues i had with the original switch version (not as bad as CTR since you would spend a lot more time in stages so they werent frequent) and if those are improved and the game remains stable then i definitely am gonna go back on switch 2. (spyro 2 was my fave!)

Trails in the Sky 1st NSW2 Edition looks sharper and runs at 60fps BUT it cant hold it. Sloppy upgrade by Gung-ho. So I deleted the game, went to upgrade page on eShop and hit +++++ to omit it from downloading with the NSW1 version. I then redownloaded the game and ran the NSW1 Edition on NSW2. And while it's lower resolution (particularly the shadows), and it's 30fps, it runs STABLE, and is much more enjoyable imo.

So until and unless the fix that NSW2 upgrade I recommend just playing the NSW1 version on NSW2. It may not be as crisp but tbh it still looks fine imo and the stable 30fps makes it so much more enjoyable.

Alternatively, if playing on NSW1 you'll want to play on a chipped console, output the docked image in handheld and overclock the CPU from 1020 mHz to 1224Hz, the GPU from 307 mHz to 998 mHz (since outputting docked image and docked stock value is 768 mHz) and the RAM from 1600 to 2133 mHz. Then the game runs stable 30fps docked and handheld with the docked image in handheld also. Game doesnt run stable without overclocking.

So ya, only the NSW1 version either overclocked or running on NSW2 is stable. The NSW1 version on a stock NSW1 drops below 30fps and the NSW2 version on NSW2 drops below 60fps.

@JaxonH Dang, too bad. Thanks for saving me $1 I guess lol.

Sounds like the same problem as with Shadow Labyrinth NS2 Edition where they aimed for too high of a resolution to hold 60 FPS. Though in that game's case, I've heard you can work around it by lowering the output resolution in the Switch system settings (when docked, the game seems to render at whatever output resolution your Switch 2 is set to use).

Did you try messing around with that to see if it helps? What about handheld mode? (Or were you testing in handheld mode to begin with?)

Yes! I think 2 is my favorite, as well. Sooooooo many people say 3, but I can't stand the skateboarding stages.

1 also has its charm, but I think 2 is the better game.

iirc there is a patch planned to add the option to swap between "performance" and "graphics" mode but as it is it feels like its trying to aim for both at once so were getting better graphics alongside aiming for 60fps, the keyword being "aiming"

the reddit thread with the email mentioning the patch was linked in the falcom on switch 2 topic so you may have seen but for those who didnt know about this its in that topic.

I'm glad this thread exists, and it's greatly appreciated that people are testing compatibility like this! Though I do feel like this could do with its own dedicated, searchable website, with each game having its own page that people can contribute to, encouraging people to be thorough with their tests and if things change with dedicated Switch 2 version patches or system updates.

Though I accept that may be a bit too much to ask for 😅
