Interesting story popped up on MCV today.

The online Nintendo store will shortly offer a new subscription box service, MCV understands.

The ’N-Box’ will feature toys, clothes and other merchandise inspired by and branded with Nintendo icons such as Mario, Zelda and Pokémon.

The boxes are expected to be available individually, with gamers also able to subscribe to a three-, six- or 12-month plan.

It looks set to be the next in an ever-expanding range of subscription box services, such as American service Loot Crate – which has itself offered an Amiibo-specific box in the past.

The service is also similar to Zavvi’s Z-Box offering, which features a range of geek merchandise, such as T-shirts, Pop Vinyl toys and themed postcards.

Zavvi is owned by The Hut Group, which also operates Nintendo’s official online store.

A Nintendo-specific Z-Box is also set to launch in September.

Nintendo was not able to comment on the story.

I've never been a fan of these loot crate type things as they're usually full of tat, but I'd be curious about a Nintendo one. The one problem I see is that the Nintendo Online store is run by Zavvi, and their Z boxes have not gone down well at all since they launched them.

I like the merch the Ninty store sells but at the same time I don't really need any more of it so I've got no interest.

I don't think Nintendo would be "taking on" Loot Crate. Marvel has their own box system. Loots Crate is a bunch of random stuff from tons of things, somethings you might like, somethings you might not. Marvel's box is all Marvel all the time. I am subscribed to it. Nintendo's box would be all Nintendo all the time. Loot Crate could still do Nintendo themed ones but the Nintendo one would always be Nintendo. I think they can co-exist so they don't need to "take on" each other.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I would like if they had different themes every month, like a space theme (mario galaxy, metroid, starfox) or if they focused on a franchise every month. I wonder how the club nintendo replacement factors into this

I've tried a few of these services in the past (Loot Crate, My Geek Box) and I agree, there is a lot of tat and filler while I would have preferred a smaller selection of more substantial goods for the same price. It will be interesting if Nintendo focus on specific themes or, similar to the Funko Pop Vinyl Figures, offer a subscription to Amiibo figures. You select ten or so choices, and Nintendo sends you out a random one from those each month.

Maybe they could do a different them every month (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Pokemon, Donkey Kong...Earthbound? Please?). throw in some amiibos, and I'd be all set.

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

Would this be for a specific region, or would it be available in all regions?
