Touchscreen devices are all the rage right now, and more and more companies are making games for them. Do you think future home consoles will use touchscreen controllers (without any buttons whatsoever)?
Nintendo is heading in that direction with the Wii U. Alhough they said they will never abandon traditional buttons, Sony and Microsoft might make a touchscreen-only controller.
No. At least, Nintendo isn't doing it because Iwata even said that physical buttons are pretty much required for their home consoles. I'll be fine with a touchscreen and physicial inputs than just touch screen.
All you people say no, yet look at the success of the iPod/iPhone/iPad, tablets, Android, etc.
Yeah, but as people have said before, those controls only work for certain kinda games, sort of like how motion controls weren't the future because they too only worked for certain kinds of games. I think buttons will be around for a very long time.
When I play games I want to play a console on a TV using a traditional style controller. If there ever comes a day when that isn't a option I guess I will stop playing games.
