They were all pretty good before Final Fantasy 8 came along. Not so much after that.
I just wanted to add that Final Fantasy IX (9) was one of the best in the series and an exception to this rule.
I've only played 5 main series FFs (I,II,IV,X, & XII), and I believe without a doubt that X was better than the others I've played.
I truly believe that the sentiment should be changed to FF went downhill after X (of course, I haven't played X-2, so as far as I know, it deserves all the hate it gets, but X-2 shouldn't be used against the quality of X).
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
A lot of people think X (10) was the last good one, actually... I just see it as a game that, while not as bad as later entries, still has a lot of the big issues that killed the series. Kinda like what the love-it-or-hate-it Sonic Adventure 2 did for the Sonic series.
Haven't played main series that much so I'm going to say FF1 (mainly the remake on GBA). If we count other FF games, I really like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Chocobo Tales.
I'm properly gonna get soooooooo flamed for this but I like 13 way better than 7 final fantasy 7 is extremely over rated And final fantasy 7 fanboys really make the game worse I found all the characters annoying and kinda random 13 has character development seeing hope go from a mommas boy to a bada** by the end of the story rocked and besides hope you get a feeling that ALL the characters were well thought out and have tons of personality my only complaint is that it feels linear :I
These Crystal Bearer discussions are a bit off topic, can't we just talk about the main series?
Anyways, no Final Fantasy III love it seems
Thats because III is pretty awful and boring. Tried playing it on several occasions on the DS and just could not get into it. After pumping about 10 hours into it I just couldn't take it anymore.
Excuse me, but FF II is not a "generic one without a story", it was the first FF to focus on its characters and their stories, even if not as much as later entries, It was FF III the one that went back to the "four random kids go on a random quest" thing (the DS remake made it less obvious).
V has a story, too, and a good one at that. (in fact, I don't know what Morpheel is talking about. There's more story in the first two hours of FF5 than there is in the entirety of FF2. Even if FF3 doesn't focus on the characters, it still has a story, and more of one than FF2).
Yeah... I think the first one might have been confused, but Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger? Really?
I wasn't confused Last = Final Story = Fantasy
Digitaloggery 3DS FC: Otaku1 WiiU: 013017970991 Nintendo of Japan niconico community is full of kawaii! Must finish my backlagg or at least get close this year W...
My favorite is FF8, cause gun blades are awesome! But the one which got me in FF was FF7, which I first played at like 7-6 years old, It was be4 I got a memory card for the playstation, so I was nearly everyday replaying it from start 2 arrive at a point and doing it again another time. C:
What's the point of stating our favorites if we don't get to discuss it? IMO, This would be a very boring thread if all we did was state our opinion and then leave...plus, just saying, it's hard to call this off-topic discussion when most of us are actually talking about final fantasy games.
I'm just saying, we don't need to drag on about FF2 having a story or not. Yeah we can discuss it, but we don't need a too involved debate about it. I'm interested in what people's favorites are, not whether or not FF2 has a story.
Edit : Plus I was saying that because people kept going on about Crystal Bearers and Chrystal Chronicles and its like, those aren't even main series games why are we even talking about this.....
Since I've posted my most beloved and most hated already thought I might as well mention the one I'm most neutral on FFX I found it hard to say whether I really liked this one or not, sphere grid and battle system where all good; music was..... interesting I'd say the story was also kinda interesting not great not bad; the characters I didn't feel where at all interesting; I couldn't stand the main character Tidus at all he was FFVIII kinda levels of annoying character wise to me, so despite being a technically good game feature wise the lack of investment I could put in the characters emotionally just stopped it from being anything other than an ok game in my eyes.
