I can understand what he means. The games can be fun, but a lot of the time you are just holding forward and jumping when you need to.

Not in the Genesis' and Master System games. There's a lot of timing on these ones. You describes Dimps' formula for the Advance games, ehile not being bad, they're not as good and good feeling as the classic ones.

Thats exactly how Sonic 1 plays. Except in Marble Zone, which sucked anyway. I just don't find the 2D Sonics better or as good as some of the other great platformers.

I haven't played 2 or 3 in years, but to me Sonic 1 was just an average platformers at best. Not bad, just nothing great.

The old school Sonic games confuse me. It's supposed to be fast action gameplay, yet everything after Act 1 takes patience and careful platforming. Otherwise known as slow gameplay.

Hell, you can't even go that fast in the first act. (Centering Sonic is the main issue as you can't see what's ahead of you until it's too late.)

Funny, I breeze through Sonic 2 and 3, even on my first time playing. It's actually kinda hard to die outside of the Water and Sky levels if you just run forward. Sonic 1 is the only one that requires that kind of stuff, and that's just on the third acts.

Even in Sonic 2 and 3, omitting the fact that every 2D Sonic does this is completely ignorant.

You're right. The Sonic series really isn't that great.

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

Does what, exactly? I'm not even sure what you're complaint is now. That there's actually some platforming involved? That you can't beat a level while sleeping? While Sonic isn't the easiest game around, it is easy to go fast, so long as you're paying enough attention to avoid the enemies and take as many high routes as you can (which always have less enemies but requires more platforming). That's really only difficult in the DS games where the speeds get rediculous. Otherwise, it's rarely a problem outside of those specified level types. I'm not kidding you, I ran through some levels I had never played before not too long ago on Sonic 2 and Sonic Advance and finished them all in under 3 minutes each, some in under 2 minutes. I'm really not understanding what your problem is here.

What the hell? You must have gotten Sonic confused with Mario which is quite an accomplishment. The classic Sonic games have a balance of speed and platforming, which many people can't seem to comprehend.

When you're basing your hatred of a series on one game (the worst version of that particular game, as well), I can kinda see where he's coming from.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

No they don't. All the actual platforming parts are really slow. In some of the later acts, there's a few speed parts, but those are mostly just eye candy where you have little input. If you go fast during the regular platforming sections, you will get hit because Sonic is always centered in the middle.

The games are too platform based to claim they have fast action gameplay. And even at that, the platforming is on par when compared to Mario. Looking out for enemies is harder than it may seem. When I play Sonic (you know, the hedgehog who runs at sonic speed!), I don't want to have to stop, jump on something's head, run some more, jump on something else's head, run some more, rinse and repeat. Sonic Generations did this fairly well for the first act but, like its predecessors, Sonic is centered on the screen so evading enemies is unfairly tedious.

How can you comprehend something that doesn't exist?

Let me guess, was it the 3DS version?

yes it was...

There's your answer.
As much as Sonic Generations on the 3DS was fun,it wasn't up to past handheld Sonic titles.
Go play the Sonic Rush, and Sonic Advance series.

I'm not a big fan of Sonic 2D platformers, but I had a Sonic Advance (1) + Sonic Pinball Party combo pack for the GBA and I loved it, so I guess it is a good place to start.

And... I had two Chao gardens on the same cart <3

Maybe for, like, the last two stages, I guess? Other than that, if you're going slow, you are either overthinking it, or you're just doing it wrong. Unless I'm just some super awesome Sonic player, which is unlikely, the stages are designed so you won't have much trouble (so long as you stick to the high roads) going pretty fast throughout much of the levels. Unless they're the DS games, which were just rediculous after a while, or Sonic 1, which is just a terrible game in general.
