Topic: what's so special about the sonic series?

Also: Judging a whole series based on a single game is usually wrong, but this time he's using a compilation/celebration game that (supposedly) uses elements from most of the previous games on the series, so it is not that off.

Ah, but a reflection is only as good as the mirror it's seen in. While I personally found Generations to be a very enjoyable game, I thought that it would have profited from an increased development time. Also, a better understanding of the series would make the game more fun, as several inside jokes were put in the game. So, I can understand why a first-timer might not enjoy this game as much. But it is not a basis on which to judge the whole series.

Generations is good, but it's not as great as the GBA, DS, and Genesis games, IMO.

Did... did he just compare Sonic to Zelda?

Comparing Sonic to Zelda is like comparing apples and oranges. Sonic is a platformer. Zelda is an action/adventure game. Two very different genres.

Sonic is one of the most iconic images in gaming. In fact, at the highest point in his popularity, he was more recognizable among children then Mickey Mouse.

I literally have too many reaction pictures to use for this so here's the best I can find to describe how I feel about this

Sonic games have better level design, replay value, and just are better games. Mario is great and all but, before my copy of Sonic Mega Collection Plus was murdered by a PS2 I played more Sonic than I ever did Mario. Old Sonic games were very different from your standard platforming fare. There were so many paths through each level, the urge to collect every ring in sight. I find that Coin Rush in NSMB2 is trying to capture what Sonic was (even though they were unsuccessful). Go find a way to buy the old ones THAT is what Sonic is meant to be. SEGA just doesn't seem to know how to capture the old Sonic anymore.

I can understand what he means. The games can be fun, but a lot of the time you are just holding forward and jumping when you need to.

Not in the Genesis' and Master System games. There's a lot of timing on these ones. You describes Dimps' formula for the Advance games, ehile not being bad, they're not as good and good feeling as the classic ones.

I'm amazed that this thread has yet to be locked, if you get the right to make a post spouting your rediculous reasons as to why you hate Sonic so much, whats stopping people from making threads about how much they hate Mario, or Pokemon, or Zelda, or Rayman, or Call of Duty, or Final Fantasy, or any game series at all?
