Topic: what's so special about the sonic series?

Ive only played one sonic game in my life and I thought it was really fun! It was on the GameCube and I think it was called Sonic Heroes or something like that.So with my experience,I think Sonic games are cool but I never bought Sonic games before so I don't know.....

This thread seems to have a debate that has no end in sight.
What I find special about it is it was my childhood. Everyone will have a different favored title, or none at all, but it's pretty much up to preference. (Though Sonic 06 is a different beast all together. If you like that one, you are insane )

Since this thread was started because of Sonic Generations 3DS, I would say that the best strategy would be to look up one of the older portable titles or even the original classics like a few have requested. Sonic Generations 3DS, while somewhat fun at times, was a failure.

Look, I'm still convinced that you dislike Sonic mostly on the basis that you think you're cool for doing so. Well, here's a tip: it's not. Instead, it makes you look immature and trollish. It's one thing if you dislike Sonic after playing several games and finding things that you don't like. It's a completely different story if you hate the series after playing one game and proudly proclaim it wherever people might listen. It appears that you're fairly new here (well, actually, you've been on longer than me, but that's not saying much), so please don't give yourself a bad reputation here in the beginning. Trust me, you'll want to be someone who is taken seriously later on.

The thing that I have trouble wrapping my mind around is the statement that Sonic games only require you to "hold right and jump at times." If you are criticizing the series for that then what does any other platformer do differently? As for the complaint that Sonic games aren't fast at all, the game is balanced between platforming and parts with hills and loops for you to zoom through but if you do base your opinion of the series on Sonic 1 then that might not be the best example.

I agree. Sonic 1 was good, but the series hadn't found its niche yet. As for the whole "hold right to win" thing, I've heard it many times before. I feel that many people just parrot various complaints (not saying that the others here do) without really knowing the issue. Good point on the fact that all platformers involve exiting stage right.

Beats the tar outa the Mario games and that is fact proven by science.

I love Sonic because he is different then other platformers. Also I like the exploring and speed running trough the levels. Have you ever played Sonic Rush (DS)? I love that game!

@paperluigi here's a crazy, nifty idea. If you don't like your own thread, delete it yourself. But the conversation is mostly civil, so I don't see why you would want to do that. And a few people provided you with advice. -_-
