Topic: What if Nintendo dies? Backup plan?

Honestly though, on a serious note, I foresee Nintendo dominating the video game industry, becoming the Microsoft of video games. Only, instead of ruining their flagship products like MS did, they'll make them better!

@Veloster Well, you're missing out on some fantastic games, but that's just my opinion.

It's not that I have anything against these games. It's just - I don't really feel like they're the kind of games someone my age should be playing. Fair enough, you could argue the point that I love Zelda and Sonic (1 and 2) and Mario (64), but I feel there's a massive difference between that and something as juvenile (probably bad word choice, but you get the idea) as AC:NL.

Very interesting, as the two games that most of my college friends have are New Leaf and Pokemon. People seem to discount the possibility of someone liking stuff like GTA 5 (I'm not into it, but plenty of my friends are and it's pretty fun to watch at least) as well as Mario and Animal Crossing and the like.

As for if Nintendo died... I guess I'd go back and buy older systems and games that I don't have yet, unless SonySoft became interesting somehow.

I am 39 .... I LOVE Pokemon games, though I do wish they'd do a new TCG for the 3DS, but meh. Animal Crossing never appealed to me, but .... the largest portion of gamers who play these games are now in their 30s and 40s. Anyone who thinks you outgrow a game just because you get older is .... lame. If Game Freak would do it, I'd prepay for the next 4 generations of Pokemon, because I know I'll be able to still hold up the console for that long.

What is juvenile is calling us fans of something you have a misconception about "juvenile," @Veloster, which is essentially what you called all the fans of AC. I'd dare you to go to a Pokemon forum and claim "this is a kid's game," even the younger fans would scream about that. Seriously, the artificial age boundaries need to end now, this is 2014, not 1014.

@KittenKoder Sad thing is, people were probably more mature (the real kind mind you) in 1014 then now.

Perhaps, but they only lived to about 30 years on average, so "mature" probably meant something very different.

Not going to happen. Nintendo ushered in the modern era of video games and it will be there until it dies.

Pbft, modern gaming is dying anyway. We all know that video games are doomed, a passing fad!

(In case you didn't notice, that was a joke I made.)

Apparently we need one right now since Nintendo Doom thread appearing everywhere. We supposed to have a plan at least a couple of years ago since that is when Nintendo is doomed.

Umm… Care to have some gravy?

Wait, so that means Nintendo IS the zombie apocalypse!

The good thing is that, even on the off-chance that there is some huge crash in the video game industry, Nintendo is wealthy enough to survive it. Sony, at least, is much more vulnerable, and Microsoft may not even decide to push the Xbox into the next generation if it doesn't fare too well against PS4.

@Veloster
Let me ask you: why is murdering people graphically in a video game something an adult should be doing, but living a peaceful, altruistic existence in Animal Crossing something they shouldn't? And how old are you? Most of the people this self-conscious about playing something "kiddy" tend to be pretty young themselves.

I submit there is more value in an adult playing Animal Crossing and learning to co-exist peacefully with others (even if only in a digital space) than there is in that same adult violently murdering people in the latest war simulator.

I can't believe all the people who think the games industry will die if Nintendo goes out of business. I don't where people got the idea that Nintendo dies the game industry will die. Have any of you looked at Wii U sales, and looked at PS4/One sales? The industry won't die, great games will still be made, and we'll all move on. And if you don't like non-Nintendo games, you need to expand your horizons because you are just being closed minded then. Nintendo games is portion of what gaming offers.

Nintendo won't die though, they have billions and billions, and they're a bigger company than Sony. So, yeah, not gonna happen.

Sony is a bigger company, I don't know where you got the idea Nintendo was bigger.

First computer game ever made was in 1958, that's a lot less than a century. The very first electronic game wasn't even a century ago, that was 1947.

Oh .... heh ... I am rather culturally challenged. I grew up in a time when home computers were considered a "fad," and everyone thought Bill Gates was insane. .... memories.
