I don't think we've hit a graphics plateau, but I do think the "awe" factor that had accompanied past graphical leaps has lessened by quite a bit, because from now on, we'll be met with similar visuals that we've already seen before but with more of them, both in count and in detail.

Every time someone mentions Journey (the game, not the band), I am reminded that I still don't have a PS3 and thus can't play it. Then I die a little on the inside.
Look at a Pixar film and compare it to the most HD, detailed game out there. We're not even close!
