Super Mario 3D World is an amazing game and its combination of 2D and 3D made it seem more friendly to users (ala NSMB). Is it just a coincidence that it's sold 5 mil copies? I think Iwata knew what he was doing .
I'd like to see the next 3D Mario bundled with the NX, and I hope it's another groundbreakung game. That may help Nintendo return to their former glory (AKA 5 years ago)
Ah you just reminded me of the Mario Sunshine bundle from back in the day. I hope they do a Mario Sunshine/RPG style game for the NX and launch with that. I honestly don't want another 3D Land/World style game for a while. 2 is enough. Even though they're 2 of my favorite Mario games now. I just don't think we need more than that. Just like I think we def did not need Mario Galaxy 3 on the Wii, or even launching on WiiU. It would have been too soon.
On a long side note, I'm getting the feeling that after the huge hooplah they made with the start of GBA, DS and N64 VC on WiiU, then the subsequent slow down of the DS + N64 games being added (at least in terms of never been rereleased N64), that we aren't going to be getting GameCube games anytime soon, maybe none at all for the WiiU. I wonder if they have issues because of ways to save gameplay. It saved to a memory card, not the actual disk/cart like every single other Nintendo VC game. Maybe that's something they have to patch? I REALLY don't want to have to plug in my GCN to satisfy these urges to play, or decipher which memory card has which game save data on it.
Well Mario Sunshine isn't unpopular totally but it's sure not the most popular, if anything it seems like Gamecube games had to age for some people to appreciate them. I've seen people suggest a Sunshine style game for the NX and people are like "meh" or "ew". I think what's awkward is that the GCN is the only console that won't make it to the WiiU that Nintendo has created.
Which would be ironic as hell. They wait to release games from their worst selling console onto their new one. (assuming the WiiU sales make those last few million before the NX)
Lol I wouldn't be surprised if when they restart the virtual console for the NX, they'll do what they've done twice now and that's just start with NES & SNES, pick a random system and go nuts (like they did with N64 and GBA) then take 200 years and trickle some random others to us later.
But on the bright side, the WiiU & 3DS have a great virtual console even if it's dead/slow right now. Much better than the Wii in many ways even if we're missing stuff from the Wii.
@CreamyDream: All 3 are solid. I've got a full library of things that never appeared on the Wii for my WiiU, or things I missed as well. Then the 3DS has all the GB stuff, plus a couple other things that have never appeared in the west. Also I think a handful of games that appeared on the Wii have been more prominent now when they appeared on the 3DS or WiiU. Over priced for WiiU? Yeah I kind of wish the GBA games were the same price as NES games on WiiU. I wish the Wii downloads were cheaper but I'm not gonna complain, I can't find the physical versions of the games I want for cheap enough. NES & N64 games are the same price as before though aren't they? The 500 & 1000 pts are just equivalent of $5 & $10USD.
I'm sure Gamecube games on eshop are being withheld from the Wii U solely so that it could be a selling point for the NX.
I wouldn't be surprised if they just couldn't manage it, they've talked before how they've had to overcome obstacles for VC and with the slow release schedule it does scream to be me they aren't experts at it, they have even had to bring in M2 to do alot of the work for them.
In fairness though emulation isn't as easy as you think it would be.
@CreamyDream: I totally know all the problems, I think what actually started turning me off to the Wii virtual console was just those kinds of things, the PS discounts or comp disks that the Wii wouldn't get. Plus at the time mobile was kicking off too. Although PERSONALLY, I don't find the VC to be any different from PS1 & 2 Classics on my PS3 in terms of how it's presented. Really anyone who does their research and has access to a Nintendo system and one of the others should be able to figure out what the best paths are. Of course, plenty of people don't do their research so they're unaware and that's why there's a $3, $6, and $8 version of Sonic 2, and also one that comes on a comp disk all in the same gen before mobile versions were more popular. I think they can keep the VC the way thing's are if they take away the individual releases and maybe just do their own comp disk, like the Genesis comp disk, only with NES or something and have it with some of the most beloved games from the time, and stop doing $5 per game. If they want to do individual releases make it more obscure games or things we don't see as often.
Also I agree it's weird they omit extras like that, color pallets and multiplayer things (if it was a GB game or something), especially because all you had to do was press A or B and the D pad to make it happen on the GBC.
Lol no need to apologize really, this is the Unpopular Gaming Opinion thread afterall.
Why does Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga on WiiU VC show the GameBoy Player logo when you start it? Lol But none of the other GBA games I have do that. For example Wario Land 4 or Konami Krazy Racers.
In fairness though emulation isn't as easy as you think it would be.
That it isn't. They're just starting to get Wii U working, but are still having issues with certain N64 games. I also think that they're having trouble with GC VC games
It is stupid to think a Nintendo direct is horrible because of one game announcement you didn't like. People saying the last Nintendo direct was bad because they showed a minute long trailer of a new Paper Mario game should really reconsider their mindset and stop being so ungrateful and entitled. Maybe the game is crap, maybe the game is great, either way a 1 minute trailer does not ruin a 30 minute video. Unless they were doing something actually hatefull, in which case go nuts. They didn't though. So let's stop pretending Nintendo is the worst company ever for making a new Paper Mario game or Metroid Prime: Federation Force. They aren't even close.

I completely agree. If you saw the direct about Federation force, both Bill and Tanabe-San were really not that happy to announce the game and looked worried a lot. Also, people don't realize that both Paper Mario and Federation Force are spin offs to begin with so getting angry at spin offs is really the oddball.
I guess someone will quote my post and say "This coming from someone who hates SEGA and wishes them to go bankrupt" Ok so I made that comment so what about it? Honestly, SEGA themselves really isn't into winning back their audience nor do they value their employees that much and from time and time again, they just do what they think prints them money which majority of the times doesn't work.
I rather let them end up becoming publishers and just sell off their IPs and just be the ones doing nothing but Total War and whatever Atlus has to offer instead of putting hundreads of their IP's into dust with many wishing them to bring them back which as of now has never come to life. Sonic is better off with Nintendo because personally, Nintendo is the king of platform games and Sonic can easily fit into them. Even if Nintendo does a spin off with Sonic more than the actual games, atleast it'll be finished unlike boom.
And you'll be shocked to see that SEGA keeps doing layoffs even now
@DarthNocturnal: I totally agree. My complaint is mostly directed to the doom and gloom crowd who let one disappointing announcement or trailer ruin an entire direct. I also think most of the hate towards both Federation Force and Paper Mario is to soon, we don't know enough. They might be incredible games. People can be skeptical, and criticism is often a good thing, but the doom and gloom should be toned down, because it won't do any good. It is also rather boring to find so many new posts that don't bring anything new to the discussion.
They need to fix the Toads problem. Only one type of Toad is kinda stupid...
And how come Bowser's minions came to be on Prism Island? Can't they just stay in Mushroom Kingdom? Sheesh. I'm hoping for battles with unique characters later in the game...
@CreamyDream Yeah, the game taking place in Prism Island was a part of my point. What I was trying to say is that why do we have to see Bowser's minions in the new location? And then I went on and hoped the minions will only be the main enemies at the beginning of the game.
This game's reveal is definitely a head-scratcher, I'll give you that. Even with the lovely visuals. It did look like there were other kinds of Toads (Toads with blue and green spots, so yeah), but I'm hoping its much more than that. I guess I'll have to wait for more things about the game but now I'll keep on scratching my head. A lot.
@CreamyDream: Haha, I watched the same video just a minute ago! And yeah, I'm a little bit more optimistic now. In fact, I'm almost hyped. If the deck system is as Andre says it is, then I don't care; I'm sold on that. I'm hoping the world map is a little more dynamic (not strictly linear because hey, SMRPG also had a world map). Now all I'm just hoping for is a variety of characters (not just Toads), and some story to go along with it and I'm totally sold.
Man, I don't understand how Gamexplain analysis videos made me change my view on this game, but I'm definitely more interested.
The guy who always narrates those videos sounds like he has too much spit in his mouth. Also it's weird how they show nothing for NA, a tidbit for EU and the whole thing for JP. Why. Also weird that they use the hand to touch the gamepad instead of the stylus. I'm glad they kept the battle concept from Sticker Star, I did like that. Even if I preferred the original gameplay, I never found the change to be absolutely the worst thing ever. But that video just pointed out mostly everything obvious, is that how they always do it? I never watch those cause the voices omg
The point is they almost always show the hardware being used "like it should be" with all the pieces, including the stylus. Touching it even how they do will dirty the screen lol.
Yeah there was barely any incentive to battle enemies and it was really annoying if you had to battle enemies during the part where you collect all the Wiggler parts. To me it felt like just a way to slow you down instead of a fun part of the game. My favorite is the original, but I really love both the GCN & Wii games as well. Sticker Star was okay.
Whatever Nintendo does no matter how many things they try to do, people in general just can't be happy with what they have to offer. I just hate that honestly.
Are you really angry that Nintendo isn't making use of cross buy and forcing you to get Super SNES games on 3DS again if you have it on Wii U already? If so, then you shouldn't have bought the game on Wii U and like me should have just waited for them to be on the SNES.
I'm happy that SNES games are coming on new 3DS and so do those other 3DS exclusive users. You realize that you Wii U owners have GBA games that we 3DS owners can't get right? You ranting about the fact that some game that you already have on the Wii U and that you want it free on 3DS? Get real!
That kind of business tactic is garbage. Just because Nintendo's competitors are doing things better than Nintendo doesn't mean that they always mean better for them and for the userbase. Both Sony and Microsoft are investing money on VR which itself is a huge thing to deal with. Does that mean Nintendo is lacking behind because they aren't into VR?
The VR future is looking really bleak considering that you ought to pay 599$ for just the oculus rift not to mention that you need the best Computer to get the entire experience.

Different people have different opinions, and there will be at least one negative reaction to everything. My point here is that you are assuming that everyone is negative all the time, which is not the case.

I recall people being disappointed that there's no cross buy. Should they be happy about this?

Again, are they supposed to be happy and just accept it?

Erm, actually I can argue the opposite. It's called being competitive...

Well it's a good thing you represent the entire market's opinion. It's too early to say how well the VR market will do. Heck, we don't even know what Sony will offer or what price.
What I gather from your argument, though, is that other people are not allowed to criticize Nintendo.
@TingLz: @DarthNocturnal: I don't mind constructive criticism given to Nintendo because I too have to give some criticism to Nintendo as well which is not having GBA on 3DS when its shown that 3DS can support GBA. Then there's the matter of not making some games that I want like a brand new Wario game for example. The problem is that these types of criticisms that I give to Nintendo is just so few that even if they don't correct them, I'm still fine with it because it never ruins my gaming experience whenever I play games from them.
But the criticism that Nintendo gets is beyond constructive. Its just that every single thing they do has to be hated by someone. People hate DS because of it having two screens. People hate amiibo because its more expensive than DLC pack . Youtubers hate Nintendo because Nintendo is taking their "hard" earned money and this just goes on and on.
most of you praise the hell out of SEGA despite their flaws being bigger than Nintendo and yet, me trying to defend Nintendo is the big problem.
Just tell me, do you honestly think that people will be happy if Nintendo fixes their issues? I highly doubt it.
