I feel like this went from deviating from cliche gaming to just straight up hipster. Just my two cents.

I liked the third generation of Pokemon and Majoras Mask before it was cool.

Mario has gotten too trendy and mainstream. I also only buy vintage games from thrift stores.

I liked the original Mass Effect 3 ending much more than the new one.
I think the control scheme of Metriod Prime was better on GameCube.
Dark Souls isn't hard, and the gameplay is highly repetitive and exploitable.

And I'm absolutely in favor of Pokémon games only having one save slot.

Wait, there's people who want main Pokemon games with more than one save slot?

That makes no sense to me.

My opinions that don't seem to be very popular:

> Metroid: Other M is almost my favorite Metroid game (second only to Super Metroid).
> ZombiU is far, far better than the Resident Evil series.
> Windwaker is one of the best Zelda games ever made.
> The Wii U is an awesome console.

Hopefully this is a safe environment to admit: I loved Other M. LOVED it. Please nobody shoot me, at least I see I'm not the only one, and man does that feel good to finally admit.

If it wasn't for the Virtual Console, I'm not sure if I would have gotten a Wii, at least not so early in it's life cycle. The VC made it an absolute must have in my mind.

I haven't played it, but I have seen the story videos several times on youtube, I really like them.

You're not alone in that, I think people's complaining about her being scared of Ridley is absolutely ridiculous. The only reason we could have never seen fear in her face before is because Samus really was a silent protagonist until modern gaming. People were going to complain about her having emotions and speaking regardless unless she was a total BAMF. I liked her character, the dialogue and motherly attachment wasn't perfect but really when is it ever completely tight? I enjoyed the gameplay much more than the prime series.

I know this one is gonna get some hate but I think Metroid Prime is incredibly overrated. What everyone calls "exploration" I call monotonous backtracking

I agree, I basically said as much (especially the BAMF expectation) in a similar thread, which I'll copy pasta below.

I do as well. While I enjoyed the games overall, they were some of my least favorite entries in the series.

I personally love Other M - it's my second favorite Metroid game.

A few points of note:

1. Varia Suit: A simple matter of story timing conflicting with gameplay timing. I just shrugged it off as the heat not being much of an immediate threat until the volcano upped the ante. If it was that big of a deal, there was no reason Samus couldn't have simply asked for authorization. She wasn't a fawning wimp, she was just trying to both show respect by following Adam's command.

But I feel it was mostly just a gameplay timing issue - if the suit was authorized at the first sign of heat, there would have been no reason not to have it on from the very start.

2. She's not angsty or easily scared. The Ridley thing is a separate case - she has fully blown PTSD due to watching Ridley munch on her parents like a Twix candy bar when she was a child. Combine that with the fact that she still emotionally traumatized after the stuff on Zebes, and then encounters Ridley, who is supposedly space dust at this point, and you have a great recipe for a major panic attack. The fact that it didn't happen in other games is a moot point as those games had zero story or characterization. Oh, and for the record, the EXACT same thing happened in the Metroid manga. This wasn't a one-time thing.

Lately, I've just been chalking the entire thing up to fans who expected Samus to be some kind of invincible badass. She's not, and for that I'm happy - invincible heroines are boring.

Another unpopular opinion, I think Sony's addition to gaming is one of the big reasons reason why gaming is so over saturated with negative aspects nowadays. People seem to give Microsoft crap now a days, but Sony was the reason that console gaming was no longer a niche hobby, that consoles were no longer devices focused on just video games. The Playstation 2 may have had some amazing games, but that console's multiplatform games always looked better on the Xbox, and wouldn't have sold nearly as much had it not been for the DVD being such a major sales tactic. I loved the Playstation as a kid, Sony has some great games on all their consoles, but they are the reason console gaming is where it is now and that saddens me.

Yeah, for all we know, Samus could be constantly screaming every time she finds another Ridley clone. But she was just a silent character until Other M.

I know what you mean. The VC is why I bought the Wii instead of a PS3 or Xbox 360 as my first console for that gen.

I would love to see Pokemon add another save slot!

On another note, I personally cannot stand Final Fantasy games. I have tried a few of them and I can't see why they are so appealing. I love Nintendo, but I am getting sick and tired of Mario games. I feel like they are the same thing over and over again. The last thing I can think of is, I could not stay into Infamous 1 and 2 because Cole was so boring but I like Second Son.

twilight princess is one if not the best 3d zelda game ever made

for some reason people think it wasn't such a great game, yeah sure it was too easy but the storyline, the cut scenes, the music, the sidekick, I thought it was absolutely stunning

I blame the wolf transformation. If I could have turned into something nifty and cute like the pinky bunny from A Link to the Past, it would have been much better.

  • I don't mind Final Fantasy (in fact, I loved X), but I just don't like the Active-Time battle system, which has kept me from playing some of the most well regarded entries in the series.
  • Speaking of FF, I really enjoyed FFCC: the Crystal Bearers.
  • When it comes to DS Kingdom Hearts games, I enjoyed Re:Coded more than 365/2 Days.

This is a biggy. I don't like the smash bros games, they just feel so repetitive. Button mashing is not fun.
Also, the controls on kid icarus uprising was unnecessarily difficult to get used too. So I sold my copy about a week after I bought it.
Tbh though, it felt like Nintendo were pushing a first person control scheme onto a third person view point, which doesn't work for me. Both Sin and punishment games were like that too.

I hate the Genesis/Megadrive Sonic games. Apart from the first zone of each game, there is no oppotunity to go any faster than in a Mario game without running into spikes/enemies/bottomless pits which you couldn't see coming. The controls simply do not work with the level design.
