Hello all! It's been a while since I've posted here, but I was just doing some thinking and I wanted to post it here.
Recently I have become very interested in the mobile world (Apple, Samsung, Motorola, Google, etc.) and I was just thinking to myself...what if.
What if, after this case is settled between them, Samsung and Apple merged to create one big company and produced a phone, tablet, or all out desktop together? It seems highly unlikely considering one is iOS only and the other is primarily Android, but if the two most powerful mobile companies came together and made something, I think it would be interesting.
My question to you now is, what are some unlikely (but possibly very interesting) what if scenarios that could cause a real splash in their respective fields and/or industries?
What if mother 3 got brought to the west? Would people still like it as much? and would that have meant the continuation of the series...

It would have meant that the series continued and started to get stale and would have allowed more people to realise that the series is good and not great - dispelling the god-like status that the fans have brought it to. Question time is fun. :3
@GeonjahaI never thought it was godlike. just good enough to solidly enjoy and replay.
What if the Sega dreamcast wasn't a total flop?

It's an alternate universe reality, since the events have already come to pass, but the scenario I find most intriguing is that Sony ultimately makes the CD-ROM attachment for the Super NES. Needless to say, the Sony PlayStation as we know it does not come into existence. The Super NES is renamed the Super Nintendo PlayStation (or SNPS).
This also means Nintendo drops cartridges perhaps over half a decade earlier, and there is no Nintendo 64. From a third-party stance, nothing changes. There isn't a mass third-party exodus from Nintendo. Square remains with Nintendo, and Barret is still cussing up a storm in Final Fantasy IV (Square never sees fit to universalize the Final Fantasy numbering ). Or is he? Remember Nintendo's censorship from back then. Is FF VII as edgy and memorable? It's hard to see the Honeybee Manor scenario being approved, and The Big N might see Aerith's murder as too hardcore. I have to wonder what more adult content in gaming would be today. Would games be much more tame, less risk-taking, and therefore unable to attract anything more than the child and young adult demographic? Would we live in a world without Lara Croft, and therefore no Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft?
Also, would legendary 3D games such as Super Mario 64, TLoZ: Ocarina of Time, and Goldeneye 007 have been the trailblazing classics they were? Nintendo 64 has had its fair share of criticism, but in many ways it was a significant building block for what 3D games are today! I think the three-way competition between Nintendo, Sony, and Sega really caused all three to constantly bring their A-game. Would Nintendo with Sony in its corner have been an unbeatable juggernaut for Sega, and driven them out of the business earlier than it was?
Another question is would the franchises that came into existence via Sony Computer Entertainment have still been created? I remember a few Sony games for SNES (Bram Stroker's Dracula comes to mind), but nothing that really left a mark to the best of my knowledge. Sony would have far less incentive to produce memorable games by having a comfortable partnership with a mega-power Nintendo, and nothing really at stake for them. Sony's focus may have been solely on hardware.
I'm a Nintendo fan first and foremost, likely will be my entire life, but I'm not sure video games would be as well off as they are today if the Nintendo 64 and SONY PlayStation hadn't BOTH come into existence. They both contributed great things to the evolution of gaming! I think a number of factors would've stunted the growth of gaming at a crucial time. A Nintendo monopoly could very well have been damaging to the industry, unless Sega managed to stay in the game, with Microsoft throwing its hat into the ring earlier than expected (or Apple becoming a third competitor in light of Sega's demise as a console maker).
What are your thoughts? I'm intrigued to consider possibilities others of you may have thought of from the reign of the mighty Super Nintendo PlayStation! One unquestionable positive: The Zelda CDi games never come into being.
