Topic: Times You've gotten "Gamer's Block"

We've all had it, when you're playing a game, and something happens, maybe you skipped a line of text, was half asleep, had to turn off the game at a weird time, and you DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO. You start scouring all the areas you've gone past but its no help. You are stuck.

My worst one was Donkey Kong 64. I was like 10-12 and I had gotten to when you can got into King K. Rools Ship. I would climb up and down the ship, but would keep ending up in the same room. I was so confused. Years later I tried again. Donkey Kong 64 remains uncompleted to this day.

Currently i'm stuck on Crimson Shroud. I even looked up what I needed to do, but apparently the key to this door is a random item drop and I've killed those enemies like 23 times.

What are your moments?

I had Rayman 3D ( sold it, the terrible game) and I skipped past a little text(although Im not sure if it was important) and I couldn't find out how to get to the next level.

(Tbh I thought this topic was about when you don't know what game to play XD)

My latest one was Zelda Ocarina of Time on the GC. I was playing for awhile when the 3DS version came out cause it put me in the mood to play it. Got really far into it too I'd say to the water temple but after taking a break from it for a few months I totally forgot other than the water temple what I was doing. I thought maybe if I looked at my items and that it might jog my memory but nothing. Hopefully I will remember one of these days either that or I will just start over.

Dragon Quest IV - I had to get to every town to and talk to every single individual to figure out where to go next. Please note, by then I had access to about 20 different towns. Only in the very last town I checked, which I had to reach by boat, was I able to find out where I was supposed to go. And I had already been there, but left because I thought I had to go somewhere else. >_<

Star Ocean: The Last Hope - Two years since I last played it, and after 3 hours of wandering the frozen tundra, I finally found out I had to go back to an earlier town and find a random socerer I don't think I ever met before to recharge a fire ring I didn't even know I had.

Tales of Symphonia - I finally beat the Water Temple after years of trying, and they don't give me a single word as to where I'm supposed to go. And after wandering around for an hour, I still have no clue...

When I first played Pokemon, I couldn't carry a Geodude, so my I almost deleted my game before I found a PC.

This thread title made me think gamer's block was going to be the saddest thing ever (like the game-playing equivalent of writer's block), but in fact I can relate. A lot of examples come to mind, but the first is that part where you play as a fish in a sewer tunnel thing in MDK2. It's so dark and either it was just terrible game design or I really didn't understand it, because I was swimming around for what felt like an hour.

Pokemon Firered: I was about to fight Gary or Blue if you prefer and I had no items or pokemon except my Charizard somehow I won.

When I was about 10 I couldnt pass Chapter 3 of Thousand Year Door for years because I had no idea how to beat the mini boss you have to face to advance to the Major Leagues.

A Link to the Past - I couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 at the time. In the desert temple, it never occured to me to light the two lights that would open up the area to the boss. It would be 10 or so years before I went back to the game (and now it's one of my favorites).

Kingdom Hearts - I must be really stupid, because in Wonderland, I didn't drink the potion to make me small. I just wandered around the room a couple of times normal sized, and when nothing happened, I just left & did Deep Jungle first (then I came back & completed it).

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

There are times when I stop playing a game for a year or more, and when I finally pick it back up it feels completely foreign to me; that's what I equate to Gamer's Block. There are some instances though, like everyone else has said, where the game doesn't give you any direction or you miss something important. My recent memories of it are:

Paper Mario Sticker Star: When the toads "De-Burrito" the plaza, the green leader toad got flattened in the process. I happened to have looked away at that moment, so I missed it, but all of the toads celebrated without any more mention of it, and I forgot all about him. Throughout World One, my sticker album filled up fast, and I began to wonder if the game had a sticker bank or something to store them, and a guide told me that the next best thing was the sticker museum. Apparently, to unlock it, you have to free the green toad behind the fountain. I was very confused, because to my knowledge there was never any toad back there, and I had not seen it happen. Nothing looked wrong with the founain either, so I never thought to paperize it.

LoZ - Majora's Mask: I wouldn't have known where the pirate hideout in Termina Bay was. I don't swim by the top edge. No one in game really said anything about their whereabouts, if I remember.

LoZ - Minish Cap: How am I supposed to get the library book from the scholar? I've tried everything, but apparently the game won't say anything else.

I still have no idea were to in Chrono Trigger and FFVI. I hate when a game doesn't give you good directions were to go, or when they don't remind you were to go after not playing for a long time.

Usually it happens to me at least once every time I play a Zelda game..

Chrono Trigger you can do pretty much whatever for the final 1-2/3rds of the game. FFVI is horribly ambiguous, though, despite being more linear. One of the many reasons why I hate that game.

Oh I also forget about Blaster Master on the Playstation. I got to this one plant-like alien boss, but I have no clue how to defeat it. I've been stuck there for the past 6 months..

When I first got Ocarina of Time on the VC I was pretty young and I got to inside the tree in the beginning (the really big that tells you somthing important) and I didn't realize that I was supposed to shoot the thing above the door so got stuck there. Went back there a long time later and realozed that was what I was supposed to do and then stopped playing at the water temple.

The most recent one I can recall would be in Xenoblade Chronicles, in which I had trouble finiding Violent Andante for a challenge quest. It took me a couple of hours before I actually found him. The problem was that it could not respawn for like 3 hours for some wierd reason . Either I killed it before taking on the quest or it was some kind of glitch.
