I remember my brothers being really good at Soul Calibur II and Dragon Ball Z: Bukodai Teikachi 2. I wanted to get very good in DBZ: the hit animations are the sweetest I've seen in a fighting game.

God first.

@VeeFlamesNL - Button mashers tend to leave lots of openings, so go on the defensive and look for a chance to attack, and when you find it, use your skills to get in more attacks than they can. It can still be tricky, though, since button mashers are by definition difficult to predict, and highly agressive...but if you can keep your cool, you're much more likely to succeed.

@CanisWolfred I thought you were joking when you said you'd add Vanguard Princess to your Steam wishlist - the game is available for free after all. But now that I've looked it up - why the hell is that game on Steam?! I'll look into the differences, but from what I've gathered through reviews and descriptions, it's just a few extra stages and tracks.

Here's the free version that the developer himself released: http://wiki.mizuumi.net/w/Vanguard_Princess
Downloads are below the title picture (and yes, they're legal, they've been there for at least three years, so don't worry).

About Melty Blood: Act Cadenza Ver. B and V2 are the same game mostly. V2 just has some translations and fixes (there apparently was some kind of glitch that involved super spamming with NOSVLGR CHAOS), but the overall balancing never really improved due to limitations on PS2. I think the few who still keep the Melty Blood community active focus on Actress Again, since it's the last Melty Blood to have had a PC release, making it much easier to mod.

As for Arcana Heart 3: it's impressive (in a negative way) to get worse than Arcana Heart 1, so I'm bummed out already. Gotta look up the frame data soon, just to find out what exactly is wrong with it.

Oh, so you were serious when you said it was free and not "Free to play"? Because I'd rather pay money and have everything rather than pay for each part...but maybe I don't have to? The layout of the Wiki is pretty terrible, I can't find any good info...in fact, what I can gleem from it seems to indicate that I have to do a lot of messing with the files...I might just buy the Steam version instead if it means an easy install and getting characters like Hilda without any bullcrap...

And I thought you were talking about Actress Again. I figured maybe that one would be better considering it actually got several updates and PC support...

@CanisWolfred Actually, getting Vanguard Princess to work isn't that hard. Place the folder directly in your (C:) drive, rename the .exe file to something non-japanese, and it should work. And from what I can gather, Hilda will only be available for local Vs. Mode, not Arcade, while the Lilith pack only adds a few Lilith-related stages that the creator never implemented are added, alongside new music. The Steam version doesn't even change the game setup in any way: it's still just a Fighter Maker 2nd game.
The wiki is useless, and I only still know it because they were in contact with the creator back in 2011, meaning they were the first ones to have the latest version of the game.

I couldn't believe how Broken! DBZ: Budokai 3 was. Omega Shenron with SO much Base Ki, Canceling Charge Attacks during mid charge and going into combo's into Death Moves do over one bar of health (Approx 1000Hp) or even more damage from Death Move to Dragon Rush, so it kinda takes skill to the ordinary scrubs Punch, Punch, Punch, Punch to Kamehameha Wave combo. Capsule skills like Meditation made Vegeta a god. There's more to that game than I thought.

Honestly, I had to look up what a C: Drive was...I don't know nothing about computer files, and I've never had to worry about it outside of these indie projects. :/ I just mean Steam should install it for me.

Also played some Mark of the Wolves on MAME again - I still love this game, especially now that I have a proper controller for it. They just nailed damn near everything.

That said...it is hard. I've only ever beaten the game once (on the Xbox 360 of all things!) with Freeman, and I can see why after warming up with him...he's relatively cheap. He's fast and he has a weird range with odd movements that can throw off even the computer. He also combos a little better than other characters, meaning it's much easier to button mash with him. He's relatively weak, though, to balance it out, and most of his attacks are predictable enough with practice. I've actually never really had much of a problem fighting him, IIRC. At least no more than any other character.

But I cannot beat Khushnood Butt (yes I looked that up...). Not in a million years. He said so himself, and I'm inclined to believe it...

Sheesh a fighting game thread and no one has mentioned Skullgirls yet!? I guess I'll start then.

The games has VERY aggressive AI, but the animation is well done and the color palettes for each character are either original colors, or the color palette is based off a character from an anime, cartoon, or game.

Also into SSB, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and some DBZ games.

People still play Skullgirls?

The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

I'm currently playing Watch Dogs 2 & Manhunt

I do, and I don't like your attitude.

I just asked a question cause i haven't heard or read anybody talking about skull girls in a long time.Maybe that's just me.

It gets a boost every once in a while thanks to the consistant support the developer gives it. But it's popularity did seem to drop considerably faster than it deserved. I mean, it was gonna be a niche game no matter what because it's pretty unforgiving and made with a hardcore mindset, but even then, that should've made it a cult hit and a mainstay at tourneys, but it's just been straight up forgotten by a lot of people...

FYI, Guilty Gear Xrd is on sale for 60% off on PSN. No you guys have no excuse...unless you don't have Sony consoles. Then you have very good ones. But for those who do and miss out...shame on you. Shame!!!

Absolute insanity. I kinda want the physical release more since I barely have any memory on my PS3 for full games but I might have to just buy it now... I'll also pick up Blazblue and SF3OE since they're so cheap. Wow, this Valentine's Weekend sale is crazy!

Damnit it I wish I had a ps3 right now.

Went to an arcade today and played Killer Instinct. I actually really liked it more than I expected. It's pretty fun, over the top, and has an interesting health bar mechanic. Might get the SNES version lol.

Shame on my persistence to hope for a WiiU release! It's not gonna happen, yet I keep waiting for it!

I've really fallen in love with Rival Schools - United by Fate lately. Started playing it an arcade a couple months ago and I really enjoy it. The biggest draw for me though is honestly the cast. It's such a wonderful roster of goofy characters. The setting just amplifies the ridiculousness of it all.
The fighting itself is pretty standard, nothing ground breaking, but it works. I wish Capcom would give it a new entry already. Never played the Dreamcast version and I don't want to get one for it. They're way too safe with Street Fighter though and with how awful they're doing financially right now they'd never take the risk.
