Been thinking of picking up the Fallout Table Top RPG by Modiphius. I enjoy the Fallout setting alot and game play is very simplistic, they use a 2d20 method. It reminds me alot of World of Darkness (Vampire the Masquerade) gameplay where it's pretty straight forward and relies more on storytelling then actual minitures and such. Which means our limited game time should be spent more on moving the story forward rather then being bogged down by combat rolls and such.

A few years ago I tried a prototype of a Fallout Tabletop Game that used the D20 or 3.5 ruleset and that game just didn't capture the feel of Fallout mainly cause of the mechanics. All the rolling just bogged everything down. Hopefully this one won't suffer from that problem.

Since it's October I'd like to recommend some cheap and fun board games that fit the season:

Untitled

Horrified is a great co-op (or solo) game where you try to work together to overcome the Universal Classic Monsters. I've seen it on sale for $20 to $30 and a standard game takes my group about 45 minutes to play (which is kind of where our comfort zone is).

Untitled

Exit is a co-op escape room game. Now these can take a couple of hours to work through, but you only play them once. Chances are you will draw, cut, and fold the components included in the box in order to solve puzzles. They're only about $15 a pop so the materials included are fairly cheap, but it can be a lot of fun.

Those look awesome! I am curious if you have ever played Last Night on Esrth?

This is my board game for Math Club Extracurricular.
I used the gameplay idea from Amiibo Festival as my own board game with some modification to fit with Math Club Extra Curricular. I added with some a lot of new floors such as Switch Position, Treasure Box, Fishing Area, Penalty, Two Dices, Purple Question Time (Happy point reward), Yellow Question Time (Money reward).
The gameplay was similar as Amiibo Festival but if the students landed on any color of Question Time floor, I will pick a Question cards and show to the current student to answer within 1 minute. If their answer are correct, they will get 3 Happy points (Purple) or 3000 G (Yellow), but if they late to answer or give wrong answer, they will lose 1 Happy point (Purple) or 1000 G (Yellow).
If they landed on Treasure Box, they will choose 1 from 8 cards displayed backside and they will be rewarded by a lot of money but they will get lesser Happy point than Fishing Area (Lesser money, more Happy points).
Penalty floor is basically the opposite of both Treasure Box and Fishing Area (Deplete your money and happy points).
Switch Position is the floor you can switch your position with your opponent location.
The time limit was until 3 pm (until the last student turn) as the Math Club activity was over and I accumulated their money (1000 G = 1 Happy point) with their current Happy points. The winner was who have collected the most Happy points after got accumulated with their money.

Currently less than $30 on Amazon.

I love this game! You and other players work together to explore a randomly created (the map is pieced together from blindly selected pieces) spooky mansion. Over the course of the game, events will happen in rooms you enter depending on the symbols on the map tiles and, eventually, a "haunt" will start, where one of fifty or so scenarios will play out and you discover one of the players is a traitor and is seeking to assist the evil haunting the mansion with completing some diabolical task, which other players will be trying to stop based on limited information.

It is this zombie game with interchangeable boards and well different scenarios. One player plays as the zombie and the others as survivors, so the zombie player has their own set of cards to play. For example a player could try to exit a building and the zombie player can play a card where the door is stuck.

@Ralizah this game always peaks my interest when i see it, then i remember its 3 to 6 players. "My group" for gaming is usually just my wife and me πŸ˜‚ (one unfortunate COVID casualty). Any chance this can be played with 2?

@Themagusx1 that sounds pretty interesting, i'll have to look it up. Is it 2 player compatible?

Oh yeah two players can play it, which is pretty cool.

@Themagusx1 @Losermagnet I always play Last Night on Earth with two people. Works perfectly. It's a bit more expensive, but well worth buying. Although the default scenario is the one we always end up going back to.

One person just controls all the survivors, as I recall.

I have to rebuild my board game collection. The only ones that survived the fire were my Overwatch and Mario Monoploy gamer, and my Legend of Zelda Clue edition that I bought from the Nintendo Store when I went to NYC a few years ago.

I recently picked up a Dungeon and Dragons Edition Clue and Monopoly a few months ago as well. Right now I want to pick up Life but I want the 1960's version as that was my favorite version.

@Ralizah yep. It is pricey but worth it. I always thought it strange it comes with a soundtrack cd though

@Ralizah thats good news 😁 thanks for the link.

@Themagusx1 i love when board games have fun or gimmicky components. A few games i own have apps you can use during play (with varying amounts of success).

A couple more that i forgot about:

Dead of Winter was kinda hit-or-miss for me. The setup is a bit ridiculous, and a game can drag on for awhile. But conceptually i like it. Another zombie game, where you all play as survivors and try to micro manage supplies in order to achieve a goal. In groups of 3 or more, however, it's possible someone is a betrayer and secretly trying to sabotage the group.

Untitled

I love Campy Creatures! It's a card game thats kinda like War. The higher number monster captures the mortal of their choice first. But each monster has their own unique ability, and not all mortals offer the same benefits. For some reason Amazon had this listed at $45. I think I paid $15 through Keymaster Games web site. I really love the artwork they put in their games. Parks comes highly recommended as well.
