Find me a game that can't be added to or improved and you've got the perfect game.

Since we geek new hardware every couple of years and developers can use that to make a range of technical and artistic improvements, while adding in new ways to play, it's difficult to imagine a game that could never, ever, be improved on.

Yes. Even Tetris. Online play was a good addition, yes?

I think Limbo is a good example. Everything from the visuals to the gameplay to the soundtrack is simplified to such an extent that it is all perfected!
And, as they say, the less there is, the less there is to go wrong!

Currently playing: Rhythm Heaven, Minecraft (XBLA), Pokemon B/W 2, Halo 4, The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave, Fallblox, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GCN)

Will be playing soon: Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Cave Story +, Wii U: NSMBU, Nintendo Land, (And lots more!)

They could have added more levels, some kind of online connectivity, etc etc

I would consider Ghost Trick a perfect game.

Some of my favorite games:
Ghost Trick, StarFox 64, WarioLand: Shake It, Kid Icarus, The Legendary Starfy, Endless Ocean: Blue World, Zelda: Minish Cap, Pokemon Snap, Diamond Trust of London, Gyromite, Katamari Damacy, EarthBound, Mario Kart 7, and Sonic Generations(PS3).

Also, sometimes you just don't need to add anything to a game. By adding "improvements" you can easily end up ruining a game or turning it into "too much of a good thing" and then you get sick of it. I think Katamari Damacy was ruined by all of its sequels. Where as the original one was pretty darn close to perfect. I'd also consider the original Super Mario Bros to be perfect. It is still loved today because of how perfectly executed it was. The graphics still hold up, as does the gameplay. We don't need extra levels or online play. It seems that we've hit a point in the gaming industry where we are starting to add too much and trying to revert back to when games were simpler. VVVVVV is a perfect example of that.

Obvious if I appeared in a game, the game would then be classed as perfection.

There's a difference between the perfect game from a personal perspective, and an objective "perfect game."

Which one are we talking about here? Because if we're just talking about our own personal games, this is just another "favourite game."

If we're talking about an objective notion of perfection, then there is no such thing as the perfect game. There is ALWAYS something that could be added to it or improved.

EG: Nier, for me personally, is the perfect game. I personally would not ask for anything else from it.

But I also can't deny that for it to be objectively perfect, it needed to look a hell of a lot better.

So, as I thought, the perfect game would be one that everyone could enjoy? One that perfectly captured the essence of every game genre?

While I don't believe in the perfect game, I think it would be exactly the opposite to this. If a perfect game WERE to exist, I think it would be an absolutely flawless implementation of a single genre/set of mechanics. I think catering to many different game types cannot lead to perfection.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

The perfect game would have Mario and Sonic team up to beat Bowser and Eggman.

Favorite Games: Sonic CD, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland, and Call of Duty: Black Ops, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, and Mega Man 5.

Metroid Prime, but with a world several times as big. With everything good kept in tact and no relying on boring filler.

In other words a game that could never happen.

We have all the pieces, we just need a developer to put them together. The adventure of Skyrim, the action of the ENTIRE FPS genre, the color (and sometimes the lack therof) of Zelda, the tight controls of Mario, the suspense of the Silent Hill series, the romance/heart of Kingdom Hearts, and the realistic yet playful look of Xenoblade.

It'd be a Role Playing Game where grinding is fun (as in Skyrim) and the vast world is enjoyable, but also a mystery (some Zeldas, Silent Hill, and once again, Skyrim). There would be a story that grabbed everyone's attention (all of the above). There'd be enough in-game content so that DLC would never be needed. Obviously Co-op and Competitive Multiplayer. It'd be on every system (at the time that could handle it like...PC, PS3/PS4, 360/720, Wii U, etc...). Character Custiomization that went as deep as Fallout and Elder Scrolls combined.

That's my perfect game anyway, but I know OlympicCho will find something wrong with it...

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

Indeed I can. That game would cost so much to make that the development company would be bankrupted before it was ever completed.

Which means you wouldn't get a game to play at all. I don't think an imaginary game is perfect, personally.
