@Zuljaras Love it! That diorama looks awesome! Clearly a lot of work went into it.

@Anti-Matter "Why do we even have that lever?"

@MarioVillager92 Hah, I've not seen What About Bob, but that phrase still rings true nonetheless! I had friends I played with, but since I didn't live in a town and my parents were usually busy, this wasn't a lot outside of school. I became very good at keeping myself entertained with games, books, pets, etc. I do like playing games with others, but it doesn't happen often. Typically I need to have some amount of trust in them due to previous foul experiences regarding MMOs.

I can get on board with most desserts that use fruit - as long as it's the real thing. I'm not big on most artificial flavorings outside of some forms of strawberry and lemon. Fake banana is the worst IMO. I'd certainly eat those cakes you mentioned lol. Carrot cake is actually very sweet too; it's the texture of the carrots I don't like. I've actually read it's one of the worst cakes for you due to all the ingredients and the high sugar amount. I have a large sweet tooth, though I'm intentionally pickier about what I do eat when I indulge now. If I'm gonna eat sugar, it's gotta be something I really like or don't have often (or have never had before).

If I recall, Sears went under a few years ago. My mom used to take us there for formal pictures. There used to be a smaller Sears appliance store near me, but it finally closed its doors. They had an interesting selection of stuff at the larger stores.

Not sure if I'll get to Kirby: Planet Robobot or Kirby and the Forgotten Land first. There's no continuity between the games to my knowledge. I've thought about picking up Return To Dream Land Deluxe too, but I actually bought and played through a used copy of the Wii original right before the Switch announcement. XD Sadly, a lot of used DS/3DS games worth their salt are expensive. Thankfully the DS is region free, so in a couple cases I've found better used game deals from the UK. Not so lucky with the 3DS though. Fortunately I lucked out and bought much of what I was curious about right after Nintendo stopped making games and before prices went up...doubly so before the pandemic demand. For example, I paid just under MSRP for both Dragon Quest VII and VIII new on 3DS. The prices now, even for used copies...oof.

@Anti-Matter I've never seen the show, but I did find that video recently! They had some pretty good gags in The Emperor's New School too. XD

@Tyranexx Yeah, I didn't have a lot of opportunities to have friends from school over to my home, either. I was a bit shy at the time, and school work was kind of a necessity to finish for me. I also didn't have a lot of friends who were into Nintendo like me, though one person from my home room was. I also got good at keeping myself entertained with stuff like games and music. Loved playing with my cats, too. Ah gotcha, that's understandable on playing games with others. I still remember playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with some Nintendo Life buds, and one of them got... a little upset because they weren't winning. Not giving away any names here. I've known another person who would get upset because a favorite character of theirs got last in Mario Kart or Mario Party, even if said favorite character was a CPU player! I'm not making this up. Again, not giving away any names.

Gotcha, I remember you're not too keen on most artificial flavors for cakes. I remember my cakes would have real strawberries inside the filling, which was nice. I like getting cakes from the mom-and-pop bakery in my area. I can't blame you - the cakes I've mentioned were really good! Ah OK, good to know on the carrot cake being one of the worst for you. Yeah, same here, plus I don't have cake super often, just on special occasions such as my birthday. Cake is delicious for sure, but it should be enjoyed in moderation.

Looks like there are 11 Sears stores left, according to Wikipedia at least. The Sears that used to be in my area had a wide variety of stuff too, and it was two floors high. (There was an escalator that could take you to and fro.) That's cool you got to have formal pictures taken there. I still remember playing with a Sega Dreamcast kiosk over at my local Sears store... I think that was the last time I found any games over there! I still wish I had a Dreamcast during my childhood... I'm so sorry, Sega.

That's OK, it doesn't matter what you play first, haha. There's no continuity, and Kirby really just focuses on gameplay, levels, and things like that, so you won't be lost. Lol! You finished Return to Dream Land right before it got announced for Switch, huh? I also skipped the Switch remake, since I was content with the Wii version. Maybe if I can get the Switch version on sale sometime, since it does have a new story... but I'll have to think about it. Plus I wanna get the Paper Mario: TTYD remake on Switch. Yeah... it's a shame they're so dang expensive. Makes me appreciate all the DS and 3DS games that I've gotten over the years, and still have. That's cool you've gotten Dragon Quest VII and VIII just under the MSRP. I've gotten DQVII from a My Nintendo discount years ago. (Or was it Club Nintendo? I can't remember.) I'll probably revisit it sometime.

A random question, what do you think of the Mario Party games? I enjoy them personally... though you probably guessed that already since I do love Mario. A lot of the boards and minigames are fun, even though some... unexpected things can happen, lol. I'm a little biased toward the GameCube games since I'm more nostalgic for those, but I do like the Nintendo 64 ones too. Superstars on the Switch is fantastic, as well.

After my chores, I spent a good chunk of the day playing Disney Speedstorm as well as yesterday. Two things, regulated multiplayer is more balanced than ranked, secondly, Ariel is a great racer. Collecting thingamabobs make her go faster.

Also, having a decent week, got to see my friend and went to the store to buy some Trolls Mineez, which is always fun.

MarioVillager92 wrote:

@Sunsy Good to hear your Mother's Day was good, mine was good as well. Mom loved the cake I got her, and I even made her a card. She loved both.
It's a heavy-hitting weapon for sure. That's cool, that's Tower Control from the sounds of it. It's funny you've mentioned that because recently, I won my first anarchy series in Splatoon 3! It happened to have Tower Control as the mode, as well. Tower Control is pretty fun, same with Splat Zones. I do like Rainmaker as well, but I think I need more practice in Clam Blitz.

Nice, that sounds awesome. The arcade versions of the NES games (Vs. SMB and the PlayChoice-10) are fun finds for sure. I've never played the Dreamcast version of Daytona USA, only saw videos of it on YouTube, and yeah they made the graphics better, so that's cool. That's all right, I'm the same way with rides that are on the extreme side, such as roller coasters... especially if they're super high and super fast. The more relaxing rides, I do like, and I also like merry-go-rounds. I still like a good trip to the arcade as well.

I remember seeing that Phantasy Star I had those 3D mazes, those looked great for the time. That's cool you enjoyed PSI and II, perhaps one day I'll play through PSIV and try to commit to that. Or just make it as far as I can before getting stuck.

Indeed it was, that sounds like you had a good Mother's Day too.

Yup that's it, I always find it to be the best mode for 1v1 games. Forces everyone to meet up rather than scatter about a big map. Congrats on winning. That's cool, I haven't really tried any of the other modes, I think I tried Salmon Run once at one point.

It also played nicely too, and had analog controls for the gas, break, and steering, which I don't think the original had IIRC, I've only played the arcade version. Indeed, that's why if I took a trip to Disney or Universal, it would be to meet the characters or look in shops for me. Then again, I could shop for Disney stuff or Trolls stuff at my local Target. I did it the other day when I bought some Trolls Mineez. Though, been on a bit of a Disney Speedstorm kick lately since I now have Ariel unlocked. Got her and a bunch of season pass rewards before they changed the monetization for the season pass. She's a great racer.

I do enjoy them, though I don't think I ever beat them. RPGs are fun, but they can go on for too long.

@Sunsy Glad your Mother's Day went well too! Ghirardelli is a great chocolate brand; I'm sure she appreciated the chocolate, movie, and salmon! Mom liked her goodie box, though as I suspected she pawned off the chocolate covered espresso beans lol. I took one small bag. My brother-in-law took the other.

Yeah, it's one of the few candies she'll enjoy eating once in a blue moon. She did, she'll never say no to seafood, while I usually do outside salmon, cod, and tuna. Glad your mom had a good Mother's Day.

@Sunsy Yep, I had a good Mother's Day as well. Thanks for the congrats! I have played Salmon Run as well. Though, the most recent time I played SR, I continually got destroyed and I kept getting pay cuts. Probably because I'm at a higher level. There were enemies everywhere, and I've had a very difficult time fighting them off, especially with a weapon I don't like using. Those constant losses got me steaming mad... maybe someday I'll play it again, but not right now.

That's cool. The Dreamcast controller had analog L and R buttons, didn't it? The GameCube controller definitely had those. That'd be cool, I'd do those two things as well... meeting the Disney characters would be a real treat for me, same with meeting the Mario characters at Nintendo World. I'm not leaving Nintendo World/Disney World empty-handed, either, I'd get souvenirs at those places too! I still have that big Mario figure from when I went to the Nintendo NY store in 2015... I also still have the Belle and Anna plushes from going to a Disney store in 2018! That's true, you can still find stuff like that in major retailers. That's awesome you've unlocked Ariel.

The only RPGs I've finished were most of the Mario ones. I've finished Super Mario RPG (both the SNES original and the Switch remake), all the Mario & Luigi games, and most of the Paper Mario games. The only PM games I've not beaten were Sticker Star and Color Splash. I did not like SS at all (it's one of the few Mario games I don't like), and I skipped CS as a result. I think I'm close to finishing Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but I've gotten stuck in it and I've been taking a break from it.

@MarioVillager92 Wow, it's been awhile since I've played Salmon Run. I think I tried it once with a friend, and didn't touch the mode since, since I mostly played turf wars.

It did, and I remember Daytona USA took full advantage of it. IIRC, watching replays even had a bar showing how hard the analogs were being pressed. Kinda cool little detail. Yeah, I would love to meet Peach. Super Nintendo World too, which is Universal anyway. That would be Poppy and Peach for me in that park. Disney has way too many characters to list. Indeed, I see shopping in the shops for something exclusive and special there. Something you can only get at a Disney Park or Nintendo NYC. I still have Anna and Elsa plush from Disney Store I got years ago, as well as Vanellope from Wreck It Ralph.

Indeed, Ariel plays great. Her special move spawns thingamabobs on the road, and collecting them increases her speed. Glad I got her before they changed the Golden Pass monetization. You use to be able to get it with tokens, but they changed it to $10. Disney Speedstorm is a lot of fun, but its free-to-play monetization does hurt progression. Typical Gameloft, trying to get their players to spend money, even lootboxes, but I usually go for the daily free one or use the seasonal coins (the free currency you earn) instead of using real money for tokens on them. Otherwise, it's a good racer.

Cool, for me, the only RPG I ever finished was Pokemon Blue and Yellow. Also a little game called Gurumin, which was a really cute action RPG I bought on PC years ago. Honestly, I never played a Paper Mario game, I almost considered Color Splash at one point only because I wanted something new to play on Wii U at the time, then I decided on Tokyo Mirage Sessions.

@Zuljaras No prob! From someone who has very little experience with making dioramas, that still looks kinda hard lol. I do like how you make making of videos.

@Sunsy Conversely, I find it hard to turn down most chocolate, though it depends on the brand and what comes with it. I'm not a big fan of nougat for example. I think I'd get along with your mom when it comes to seafood for sure.

@MarioVillager92 Outside of the Pokemon craze, I knew few Nintendo fans growing up. Many of my cousins were fairly older than me and "outgrew" their NES and SNES consoles. The next TV Nintendo console I touched after the SNES was the Wii. I had a lot more exposure to the handhelds from the GBC on up. I'd trade with other kids on the bus and even shared games a time or two. One bus trip gave me exposure to one of the Wario Land titles (I think Wario Land II?). I've not really played Smash outside of Smash Wii U, and that was single player only. Some people...need to realize that games are just games. For entertainment. Not life or death lol. If one is getting frustrated, they need to step back and take a break. That has helped yours truly.

Wow....I know Searsvhad to file for bankruptcy and closed many stores, but I didn't know so few were left. Seems weird that most of them are on the US coasts now, with four in California. The store I had access to was only one floor. I recall it having quite a variety, though I don't think video games were part of that number. There was a toy section at least.

Yep, I play Kirby for the gameplay, not for any overarching plot or deep meanings lol. As for Return to Dream Land on Switch, I also didn't think it added enough for the system upgrade. I'm enjoying my time with TTYD, though with my week I haven't played as much as I'd like. I do have my first Crystal Star and have just returned to Rogueport. Seems like more stuff has opened up now, so I'll check it out before seeking the next star. I quite liked Dragon Quest VII and can recommend it... but not as a first DQ game. Each island you visit has a neat story vignette, which helps lend to the 3DS's pick-up-and-play nature. The class system and some of the characters are pretty fun too. Thing is, it's still a long game even with some plot trimming and QoL changes from the PS1 original. It could've easily wrapped up long before it did lol. If it wasn't so expensive and now locked to physical only, VIII on 3DS would be my vote if someone had to pick between the two.

On Mario Party: I haven't really played much of the series outside of Mario Party Superstars that someone brought to my work Christmas party the last two years. I had some good fun, but party style games aren't typically a genre I'm into. Namely because they're better with other players in the same room, a rare occurrence for me. I've played multiple WarioWare titles, but that's usually because there's a decent single player mode and some score chasing involved.

Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)

I still at the beginning part of Paleo Pines since I have to focus 2 games first: Kao the Kangaroo and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart.
Paleo Pines PS5 version is running on smooth 60 fps.
All my 16 PS5 games I have are running on 60 fps, except Smurf that's running on 40 - 60 fps. That's PS5 version and still can't maintain 60 fps for a simple 3D platformer games?
