It's not idiotic demand.
That called training.
As it looks hard to do but when you keep practice to write a lot, your brain will develop new things to write.
I see this from teacher's perspective since I am a teacher at primary school also, well... not an English teacher.

@DiamondCore Yeah, it startled me too. I quickly turned on silent mode, and after like ten seconds I turned the mode off.

Or fog stand for fog (x) in Math function. 😆

I'm stuck with the idea for drawing extra curricular grade 4 - 6 this Thursday.

@EllaTheQueen6 do you make them fight each other too?

@DiamondCore I must be heavily affected by my job because the first thing I read was "no action required" and it immediately calmed me down like a lullaby. The best thing you can read in an email.

@Anti-Matter Yeah but if you give kids unreasonable demands like write a 1 page essay on that potted flower, something that makes no sense at all, kids will stop to question. I remember to this day when I got an F on a flawlessly written chemistry exam and the teacher said that it was because I wrote it with the wrong font (it was also by a pen, so I made it uppercase and a little version of an uppercase because I tried to make it as clear as possible because he had told us to write super clearly) and I cried from rage at myself. At myself! I was so brainwashed back then, thinking that teachers SHOULD be right that it didn;t even cross my mind that that guy was completely unhinged and I could take it to the principal. I should have smacked the guy across this dumb empty head. Sometimes violence is an answer. And sometimes you gotta stop and ask yourself how the situation looks from the outside. Because as I said, making kids do menial, thoughtless tasks for no reason just kills their ability to think. Not to mention that scoring is the best way to keep kids from learning (you learn by MAKING mistakes and you are punished for making them), but that's another can of worms

I personally will not give ridiculous task for the students as I want to measure their capabilities to do the task. I keep seeing some of my students especially the boys who have tendency of being sloppy in handwriting are also sloppy in their lifestyle so I want to teach them how to fix their sloppy behavior started from fixing their handwriting and drawing style to be better. And I also keep telling them how important the tidiness in real life and how peoples will judging them based on their tidiness.

@HenryKibble you mean akira toriyama? That man is a legend, of course, he doesn’t just draw goku out of thin air, and sure maybe he can draw some things without reference, but he as been drawing for years! He has drawn goku many, many, many, many, times, it’s something he has spent over decade doing, so of course he doesn’t need it all the time I’m sure. But you haven’t been drawing for over a decade have you? Neither have a lot of artist, remember, the tallest mountain used to be a stone.

And even then he probably still uses reference from time for specific things.

@EllaTheQueen6 because pokemon do

@Anti-Matter guys being sloppy is kinda normal tho, isn't it

I really hate people who judge others based on tidyness (or anything else, really). I'd teach kids not to judge anyone, because everyone is trash in their own way, but I am a hopeless optimist

But when started from grade 4 and you are still sloppy in everything, it needs a quick correction.
Tidiness is a must from my point of view.
It will make you discipline and organized.
They need to have sense of tidiness since from young age so when they grow up, they still able to be tidy and organized.
I also find some students at my school are really tidy from their handwriting, coloring and the way the organize their stuffs.
I can see they got taught from their parents very well. It become their habits.

@Snatcher No, I mean, I used to doodle a LOT when I was little. But I was forced to give it up halfway through middle school because my parents and teachers needed me to get through my classes (although considering how boring they are, you can't blame me for wanting to draw little egg-things running around getting into wacky mischief).

Then I tried getting into art in high school, but doodles weren't allowed, we only could draw "realism".

After a few failed attempts to try again after that, I gave up and spent roughly 20 years buying commissions, then I decided to start drawing for myself because artists keep jacking up the prices for their commissions.

@Anti-Matter being tidy in colouring tells you that they were raised well?

well, I think milage may vary, I don't know a single person who can afford the time to be tidy, things are too fast and hectic all the time.

Being tidy is pretty important. Idk about Anti Matters country and how they teach, but where I’m at coloring in the lines, writing, help motor skills and that’s important. Tidiness is also important for organization. It just doesn’t look good to your boss/teacher/professor/whoever to keep things disorganized. But each to their own.

But it doesn't mean you can make an excuse to pity yourself.
Being tidy takes a lot of determination and time.
I can see myself when being tidy since from elementary school, it still carried when I already grow up.
My handwriting is really good (the reason my principal asked me to write the students certificate every year), my hand drawing is really good, my coloring is also really good.
Sometimes I can be sloppy for a while but I still have tendency to be tidy as possible.
