@Link-Hero As Bill Murray said, (paraphrased) “it’s hard to win an argument against a smart person but damn near impossible against a stupid one.” Facts state that it’s for the best, so agree to disagree. Don’t let it strain your relationship of course though.

@MarioLover92 I'm doing a lot better today. Still felt a bit of something this morning, but I'm pretty good right now. Just mildly sleep-deprived for non-illness related reasons lol (Note to self: Stop reading so late). I won't go into details, but I will say that at least I'm certain that what I was hit with isn't catching.

on the 2D Metroid marathons: In my case, I just replayed Super Metroid about a year ago and Metroid: Samus Returns just before that. Both are relatively fresh on my mind. Both Zero Mission and Fusion would be better candidates. I've been thinking about it, and while I don't think I'll fully play through them again, I'll probably boot them each up for an hour or so just to revisit their worlds a little next time I'm on my Wii U. I've been debating about downloading Drill Dozer and giving that a spin anyway.

I was going to play Luigi's Mansion 3 as my Halloween game this year, but I think Dread might take its place. Or I'll play them both at once lol. We'll see!

@Heavyarms55 Totally up to you whether to use a smart or "dumb" watch at the end of the day. But regardless, I will say that new toys are fun to mess around with. I'd like to temporarily borrow a smart watch just to fiddle around with it and see what it can do.

@TheJGG Thanks for the well wishes. I still felt slightly off this morning, but I'm feeling much better now. I won't go into details, only that I'm certain my temporarily affliction wasn't catching.

Fair point; questionable decisions regarding how Nintendo handles their retro library aside, we have been getting some pretty amazing re-releases, remakes, and remasters recently. I likewise hadn't heard of the two Famicom Detective Club games until the remakes were announced. I'm still interested, but they'll need to go on sale before I buy. I sometimes wish I hadn't completely missed out on the 80s, but we are indeed getting some of the content from back then in better forms...usually.

I've mentally revisited the Ys VIII vs. Ys IX debate, actually. I really want to play both of them, but I'm also concerned I'll end up playing the better of the two first and not liking the other as much as a result. #FirstWorldProblems, am I right? XD A quick search on Amazon US shows that there aren't any listings for Ys VIII on the Switch, but there are some for the Japanese import and the UK/EU version. I'm glad I grabbed the game when I did; it's went up in price at least $20 USD since. The Japanese import is twice that amount. Hard, HARD pass lol.

Brief correction on Fire Emblem: Some of the games are connected, particularly some of the earlier entries. Some such as Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones are standalone, but Shadow Dragon, Shadows of Valentia, and Awakening all occur in the same universe. Others such as Binding Blade (Japan only, but I've read there's a fan translation), and Blazing Blade/FE7 are directly related. Outside of closely related games, however, the games can each be enjoyed on their own. You just get more out of the ones that are only loosely connected. Shadow Dragon and Shadows of Valentia do share a small handful of characters though. I can't speak for Three Houses just yet, but from what I've read I believe it's its own entry.

All this BotW talk makes me want to jump into the DLC content sooner rather than later...maybe after I finish whichever Ys game I decide on. As for the Blood Moon, it was a fascinating concept in the game and was the perfect explanation for enemies respawning (annoying as it was sometimes if you just wiped out an entire group and weren't paying attention). The only thing tiring about it was the same cutscene that would play each time. I started skipping through it after the sixth time or so lol.

Funnily enough, we were discussing Flash games, and that Newgrounds article popped up today. I spent more time on other sites than Newgrounds, but I'm certainly familiar with it! A few of the Flash games I've enjoyed over the years originated there, I believe. I'd grab those two series I mentioned on the Switch, but I suspect Steam will have to be my avenue of choice for the foreseeable future if I want them. I keep hearing really great things about A Hat In Time. Now I'm more determined to check it out next time it's on sale.

From what little footage I've seen of Jim Carrey in Sonic the Hedgehog, he seems to have nailed Dr. Robotnik/Eggman. I'm not the biggest Sonic fan, but I am familiar with many of the characters and how they operate. I haven't seen all of the films he's been in, but I really liked The Mask, what I've seen of Dumb and Dumber (still need to watch the entire film tbh), Liar Liar, and (funny you mention it) Bruce Almighty! I agree that Steve Carell's performance was excellent in the latter. Same with Morgan Freeman.

Same thought on why I'd appreciate being in a city the most: convenience. Not gonna lie, while I like my piece of not-quite-nowhere, I am a decent drive from some stores that people take for granted. Thankfully, the internet helps out somewhat, but sometimes it's necessary to travel and do the shopping in person. Especially when it comes to clothes. I dislike clothes shopping, so it's nicer just to try on what I want in person vs. ordering something and hoping their "size" isn't a little off. Saves on the hassle of shipping something back too. I think I'm bothered by noise more than some, but that could be in part related to me not growing up around a ton of constant noise. Loud noises? Sure. A constant buzz? Well...it took me a good while to (mostly) get used to the noise of traffic right outside my current home.

Most local and regional news is to the point. Cable news here? Eh....Depends on which one you're watching and whether it's a true news piece or one of those editorial/comment roundtables that every network seems to run anymore. I want news, not opinions and hearsay. All the facts, not "ZOMG this happened and the news is still breaking!" etc. The media can be quite a circus, and they're not always good at owning up to "Hey, we made a mistake". Especially in today's world, where people may read a headline, snort in disgust, and move on without knowing some of the later updated facts. Nothing new in the grand scheme of things, but still very annoying.

Freaky how technology can track us now, isn't it? I turn off some of that stuff when I can. Unfortunately, for the sake of some convenience, I can't always do that. It would be cool to see my own movements - for some reason, I like browsing almost any sort of map - but it is very creepy. [The rest of this message is REDACTED and was brought to you by our Google Overlords.]

With those pronunciation examples....Schumacher, or a form anyway, is a family name from near where I grew up. It's literally pronounced like the English equivalent (Lit. "Shoe maker"; funny how many surnames back in the day described one's family or ancestral profession, no?). Come to think of it, I don't think I've heard Renault spoken in person, though I've come across the word in text. Mentally, I pronounce it "Ren-alt". You caught me on Bahrain's pronunciation. I learned several years ago that if you hear a certain pronunciation enough, you will pick it up. I was following a tutorial series for a stealth game in Unity with a British narrator. Easy enough to follow, but the pronunciation of "inventory" tripped me up. I'm used to hearing it as "in-ven-tor-ee", whereas he pronounced it "in-vent-ur-ee". (I might not be explaining this well; it's easier to describe verbally) After hearing the word enough, I actually picked it up in my own speech for a little while and had to switch back lol. There is indeed something to brainwashing.

Congrats on (finally) getting that green shield! Don't let all that power go to your head now. Responsibility and all that. It's good to get out and even do the smaller things that we took for granted before. The flying with the arms thing is recurring and sometimes takes a break before showing up again. The well wishes for my grandmother's health are appreciated! She had a very good birthday. Besides getting spoiled by a dinner out, she wanted family over. We obliged, along with a small normal cake my sister made along with an ice cream cake. Ever heard of the Dairy Queen chain? They have pretty decent ice cream cake! Sounds like you have a pretty fun summer planned, especially with that trip to Egypt. Some beach time (maybe a pyramid or two?) would certainly be what the doctor ordered after being indoors for so long!

Haven't been gaming much in the past week. But I did wash & detail the car today in hot, humid af weather. My god, I was sweating buckets. Vacuumed the car, cleaned inside of the windows, and waxed. (finally got those last few pieces of bleeping glitter out of my car. 😁 My 5 year old niece climbed around inside my car over a year ago, while wearing a tutu with pastel, rainbow colored glitter on it.) How's that for motorsport, @TheJGG. Does Gran Turismo Sport have car detailing?🤔 That would be so sick.😁

At one point while washing the car, some large bug landed on my forehead. My first instinct was that it was a bee. You should have seen me freak out and slap my head with a hand full of soap suds. Instant, ridiculous cowlick created in my hair.😁 (it was a horsefly, or beetle, or bee, I never saw it). ...As a little history, though, In high school a bee once landed & grabbed onto my lower lip & stung me. You should have seen me slapping my face, trying to hit that bee off. That f___ker really grabbed on.

Also reminds me of when I was reading outside two summers ago, and I heard a monstrous buzz in my ear, it was terrifying/startling. I jumped/ran so fast. It was a hummingbird checking me out, possibly being territorial (I have a hummingbird feeder). If you don't know a hummingbird is going to buzz your ear, let me tell you. It can scare the crap out of you. It sounds like a monster bee. It sounds like you're about to die.

I don't really know if this is the right thread to say this in, but I really can see why a couple folks are taking breaks from here. It is getting a bit rough around here lately, but I've seen it mostly in the comments of the news articles more than I do in the forums themselves. It could also be that some articles are covering topics that somewhat encourage discussions which turn hostile, like the Metroid Dread article, which.. while seeming fairly inoffensive.. has one of the most toxic comment sections I've seen here.

Another thing which isn't really connected, but I saw someone mention was that the switch pro rumors are also getting kind of annoying around here, and a lot of people seem to think it's a meltdown waiting to happen, if it doesn't happen at all. I really share in that mindset, since people are kind of blindly chasing these rumors all because "Signs point to it", when those signs could literally mean anything. Plus, it's getting a bit tiring seeing people posting "This is when the switch pro will be revealed" or "X game must mean we're getting a switch pro!", without stopping and considering the other factors around it.

No, Shin Megami Tensei V looking a bit fuzzy on the switch doesn't mean there's going to be a switch pro. No, just because Monster Hunter Stories 2 runs a bit choppy means that it's going to be released on the switch pro as a launch title. Yes, BotW 2 can run on switch.. it was made for the switch in mind, and doesn't confirm the existence of a switch pro. The New Horizons 4K screenshots literally mean nothing, as they were taken from a development build, and not the game running on actual hardware.

@VoidofLight I think that people might be exaggerating about the state of the site and it's community. With the pandemic happening, lots of people are more tense than usually and internet discussions are a great way to notice these things. Having said that, new users will come and not everyone will mesh as well, so these elements combined are what (in my opinion) are causing this perception of the site getting "worse".

This may offend someone but I honestly think that the good-bye thread is automatically a dramatic place just for it's objective. Personally if I want to leave (I have done it for short periods) I just do. Posting an explanation of why is a bit of a call for attention for me for the most part. Sorry if this really offends anyone, I might just not be getting why people there do it so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

About articles on this site, there has always been "polemic" articles since I was a member, and I don't see anything wrong with said articles searching for discussion and people participating. It's up to the community to keep it as civil as possible, but again, this situation that affected the whole world along with many other things
and simply made the perfect combination for everyone to be more short tempered than usually.

I agree about your perspective on the Switch Pro, but let's keep in mind that Nintendo has a tendency to make this 2.0 consoles (more like 1.5) near the end of a console lifetime so it's definitely a possibility. It's just that people are seeing "evidence" everywhere and it does become a bit tedious... Although this supports my point as the average peaceful site user wouldn't get as annoyed as people are demostrating on something as mundane as a Switch Pro or whatever arriving eventually or not but a lot of the community is acting like it's a fight for survival instead.

About you talking about that topic here, I don't see a problem. I see this place as a thread for general talk. Everything goes as long as it doesn't break any rule and it is respectful.

@roy130390 Honestly that's fair. I can kind of see the goodbye thread being a bit un-needed honestly since not many people need to announce they're taking a break, but I can kind of see something being useful if you have friends on here.

If these articles have been like this since the start, then I guess it's alright. I have noticed that the internet has gone a bit more tense over the course of last year, so that makes sense as well for why it can get a bit more dramatic. The admin have taken action in the past when things got a bit crazy, so I feel like they'll probably continue doing that as time goes on.

I also do think a Switch revision will happen eventually, since it's inevitable, but I just highly doubt it'll be this year, or any time soon frankly.

jedgamesguy

@roy130390 Yeah your comment about the goodbye thread is very fair. I think it's a nice thing to have, if you want to tell people you get along with you'll be off for a while but making your absence that dramatic is mostly unfounded. Don't write fifteen paragraphs, just say "I'm off for a bit, so I'll wrap up replies before, cheers!"

@TheJGG Completely agreed on the no fault sentiment, but yeah... tell that to the people involved. They'll initially always feel like they came up short, so we have to allow them to ultimately come to terms with it themselves, instead of trying to hammer it into their heads.

As for me being "happy" about my choice: I was confident enough that doing it was the right thing, but happy wasn't exactly a label I'd use for how I felt back then. As mentioned, it nearly broke me. Back then, this was on my playlist at least once a day: Be sure to interpret the lyrics in relation to the context of my story...

As for Red: are they the same company that made those movie cameras as well? If so, then they were used to make one of my all-time favorite fantasy series, Sanctuary: In case it's a show you've never heard of before: it actually began as an online experimental series, to see what could be done/achieved with the Red 4K cameras, but after the initial and HIGHLY successful "webisodes", the demand got SO high for new material, that it was ultimately picked up by what was then still the Sci-fi Channel (now SyFy), and turned into a regular TV series, which ran for several seasons.

Apologies for the later reply; I know this needed my full attention and I've given it just that.

Correct indeed. Forcing something that's seemingly common sense, at a time like that is not healthy, so letting people go through that process themselves is much better indeed. I listened to the whole song and I can certainly see how that mood plays into your own experience; the lyrics must have been so powerful way back when. The tone and temp remind me of David Bowie's "Starman", one of my all time favourite songs.

Red are indeed the movie camera company. I watched ANOTHER LTT video on that camera, which pointed out the benefits of using an 8K camera. Things like cropping the video would be impossible to notice, plus converting it to lower definitions means sharper picture. Makes me appreciate the tech a bit more even if buying one costs just under a hundred thousand dollars. Nice to hear about Sanctuary's success, though I've never heard of it admittedly!

Coming here, because the comments in the Netflix article. It really saddens me Netflix is removed from Wii U, I still used it every week. I also watch Hulu and YouTube on Switch, but Netflix isn't there. Going from Wii U to Switch, I kind of just expected Netflix to show up, especially when the previous Nintendo systems had it.

I don't want to sound mean, since being mean isn't in me, but reading the comments are frustrating since people don't seem to understand why someone like me wants Netflix on Switch. I've been using Netflix for years on Wii, then Wii U, I shouldn't need to buy an extra accessory to use it.

I have a Roku in the other room that I sometimes borrow for my bedroom, but it's an inconvenience since I have to unhook something to use it (no unhooking the Wii U is not a solution, I still play it regularly for Wii and Wii U games), and I use my DVD player regularly. I have no cable, so Netflix, Hulu, and DVDs are most of my TV.

Sorry for sounding like I'm venting, I don't want to comment in the thread again after my one comment, I don't do well in arguments if I'm confronted by someone who doesn't want Netflix on Switch.

The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!

@Sunsy I don’t use Netflix and honestly it didn’t strike me as much of a big deal until your post. I’m sorry to hear about that, I do use YouTube from time to time to watch some lower tier motorsport. I don’t think you’re venting, you don’t seem to convey true anger or disdain. Just sadness that it’s been removed. Hopefully you can find a good enough solution!

I don’t understand how it’s not a necessary or even a useful addition. It’s perfect for Switch! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
