@HotGoomba___Rebrand Ah, sorry! I haven't seen Cats, but the trailers alone are enough to convince me to stay well away from that. I was introduced to some theatrical productions last year though (Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera) so I might see Cats the production.
@HotGoomba___Rebrand Super Mario 3D World: Bowser's Furry must have taken inspiration from cats. And watching Les Mis and Phantom was very special so I'm expecting good things.
The other day I saw a really good video that explained just how wrong the movie adaptation got Cats. Not just from a visual and artistic perspective, but the music and story too.
The addition of a "main" character caused them to move and replace things, which basically killed what little message and structure the original production had.
@Anti-Matter Oh gosh, I LOVE the Matchmaker scene! And Ling, Yao, and Chien Pao are all great characters.
Just never watch the direct to video sequel. Ever.
@PokemonGirl99 I love the Gen 5 games. Glad you beat Black 2!
@MarioLover92 I own XC2 but haven't played it yet. I'm sure I'll like it, at which point I'll probably grab Torna lol. As for XCX, I poured well over 100 hours into it on the Wii U. I absolutely loved nearly all aspects of the game, though XC/XC:DE definitely has the better plot.
Ralph Breaks The Internet is worth watching if you enjoyed the first movie, but overall the first is definitely better IMO.
@theJGG The Mushu thing I get, though I thought Eddie Murphy was awesome in the original film... Hopefully the kite is funny? As for the #MeToo related-changes, those I'd get if he'd made a move or showed any romantic interest in her while she was under his charge. Perhaps my memory is a bit foggy - it's been several years since I've watched the original - but I don't recall him really hitting on her or proposing to her until she was no longer in the military. None of that has ever sent up any red flags in my book. No songs wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, but the original film had some really good ones. Besides the obvious one mentioned earlier, I think A Girl Worth Fighting For (Comically chauvinistic as it is, which is the point), Please Bring Honor To Us All, and Reflection are all excellent songs as well. I'm still bothered by the powers thing as that definitely kills most if any character development in my book and also plays into the overused "Chosen one" trope.

@ogo79 Just leave it up to ogo to come up with just the right mix of funny and kinda creepy at the same time...
hey guess what.
me and my dad ordered too much food.
so i have a triple meat hamburger with extra mayo, cheese, 3 slices of bacon, lettuce, onion, pickles and tomato left over.
its in the fridge waiting for my arrival later...and its super heavy and meaty.
so now the refrigerator is leaning to one side.
and im going to pound down like 47 beers and teach this burger who the damn boss is.
i like hamburgers.

@Tyranexx LOL. The kite has literally no dialogue or character development. It's a kite! It just follows Mulan and tells her where to go. Mushu had some tender moments soo, so it wasn't like he was just the comic relief. Almost like Riki in that he's silly most of the time but can be a great ally when he wants to be.
I think that's what happened, which further makes the #MeToo card excuse pretty lame. Well, hopefully Disney can make a good story out of this remake.
@Eel From back-cover blurb summaries of the theatrical Cats, it sounds very, very bizarre. I watched a Film Theory episode that basically said that the jellicle cat tribe was a cult. By recruiting the new member at their most vulnerable, combined with a belief that death is a passage to a greater purpose... god that was creepy.
@theJGG basically the play is a long series of introductions, each cat gets a song all about themselves, who they are, what they do, etc. The big idea is they all want to be the chosen one to be "reborn", because they deserve it.
Then there's the other cat, the one that sings memories, an ex member who is shunned away and disliked by the older members of the group. She only actually wants to be accepted back into the group.
I figure the main point of the story is that by the end, thanks to some of the younger cats feeling compassionate and sorry for her, the other cats manage to figure out that if anyone needs to be reborn, that's her. They accept her back in, and she is the lucky winner of a new life.
I figure the less we think about the details of what getting a new life entails... It's for the better.
@theJGG Ah, so the kite is just a worse version of Navi. Gotcha. And yes, Mushu did have some awesome character moments. His comedy was welcome, but he had his fair share of character development too.
So...yeah. I've done some further reading, and while I think there are a few redeeming qualities of the film, it's a hard pass for me. I don't need another The Lion King scenario.

@Anti-Matter They're both furries, so CGI is once again at an absolute low.
@Eel Great summary! It has a lot of strange themes. At least Andrew Lloyd Webber didn't write the ending while trying to appeal to one group of viewers.
@Tyranexx Hopefully you feel in your heart you made the right choice! My immediate reaction after the movie was (usually I always say: this movie was awesome because I'm off the back of a movie adrenaline rush); It's OK. An alright movie but I'm not watching it again. I slept on it and the next morning I began really thinking about it, and picking apart the movie. I then watched a Schaffrillas review, and he absolutely hated the movie, agreeing for the most part with my personal thoughts. One thing he pointed out which I never noticed, was how frantic the editing was. It's like someone tried to film a fight scene whilst having a seizure, which obviously is far from pleasant.
He's also a sucker for the Zelda series, particularly Ocarina of Time / Majora's Mask, which is something I never thought was even possible! Sometimes when I play a video game with escapism vibes, like the Persona or Xenoblade games, it feels like I'm the only person in the world who plays them! Of course the more people play games the better.
@ogo79 Do you remember that scene from Bruce Almighty, with the giant cookie? Bruce then gets mocked in the media room for saying on air, "And that's how the cookie crumbles"

@ogo79 Hamburgers don't crumble. They... uh... what do they do?... get soggy. Soggy burgers are the worst. There's a burger place five minutes from where I live and they serve the most filling burgers I've ever eaten in my life. There's so much meat and molten cheese, and combined with ketchup makes a godly sandwich
@theJGG
im gonna need those pics and coordinates
i dont mess around when it comes to most filling burgers.
you can ship it here with dry ice.

@ogo79 It's called "Sliders" and is located in the Middle East... hopefully you can visit and sample these salivating sandwiches! The meat is so juicy too, and we can order them with fries, which really light up your tongue!
