It's been years since I've been on a boat larger than a pontoon boat. The only cruise ship I've ever been on was nice, though I don't remember too horribly much of it (I was eight). That was the only time I've been out of the US.

We usually go to "mainland" by plane (it's a peninsula, so we are technically mainland too, but ya know), but every now and then when it's more convenient to take the car with us, we go by ferry. Right now we are carrying way too many gifts for the baby.
It's usually very comfortable... But to be fair this is the first time we use the ferry during winter. Winter makes the sea a bit nastier by default.

As @ogo79 said, the SNS-RZ-USA is a prime giveaway that it's not a legit retail cart.
And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)
So my blind run of Pokemon Crystal (That cant be put on YouTube after streaming because lol blocked worldwide!) is...proving interesting.
Namely I explored up to the Lake of Rage and Olivine City...with no trouble, before even battling Morty or even going inside the Burned Tower, which meant the Rival showed up in Olivine...only to go back to Ecruteak.
Then after clearing the Lighthouse, I went and battled Morty, the 4th Gym Leader. This is where it gets especially weird.
I chose to go to the Lake of Rage. I beat the Lv30 Gyarados, unlocked the Rocket Hideout. They are all Lv16-25 or so by the end of it. So on par with Morty. But you need to beat the Lv30 Gyarados to unlock it....which is odd levelling.
Doing this unlocked the Mahogany Gym, which stops at lv27-31 for the Leader, Pryce.
According to the game, that is the intended 7th Gym, and all the stuff involving the Lake of Rage onwards isn't meant to be done until you have 6 badges.
But if that's the case, why would you be expected to have 6 badges to do a Lv30 encounter only to then be stuck fighting stuff that's below what the 4th Gym had?
But to compound issues further, I was told the 6th Gym Leader, Jasmine, is higher levelled than the 5th and 7th Gyms.
Why does this game have an expected progression like this?
Lv25 max - 4th Gym
Lv30 max - 5th Gym
Lv35 Max - 6th Gym
Lv30 Max - Gyarados
Lv25 Max - Team Rocket
Lv31 Max - 7th Gym
Johto is weirdly designed man. What's sad is...I had no issue doing any of this 7th Gym stuff either.

Johto is a hot mess when it comes to difficulty. This is because the latter half of it (after Morty) is designed to be "open world": right after getting the ability to surf you could go either left or right without any issue.
Then after you complete both branches, the path to the last area opens.
The regular trainers won't really get past level 30, wild Pokemon stay much weaker.
Then you go to "open world" Kanto and the wild Pokemon there are even weaker. Which just plain sucks because there's no good place to train your Pokemon for the last battle.
It's really hard to keep a full team in these games, and the remakes aren't much better at it.
@Meowpheel I'm feeling the remakes are far worse with difficulty, as I can see trainers didn't get buffed...but Gym Leaders did. I have a team of 5 but I know the levels for Wild stuff doesn't go beyond 25 or so....so I'm kinda stuck there. The variety is terrible.
I'm enjoying this more than the remakes, if that says anything.
But my problem now is...what will be my last team member?
And regarding Clair, I already know she caps at lv40. Thing is...I know in at least G/S you can get to Blackthorn after 7 Badges but before beating Archer...which means the wild Pokemon are the same level as the rest of the stuff between gyms 4-7, and the trainers aren't much better.
But that means you end up with a level jump between Archer and Clair...with no real preparation time or opportunities.
Also, to really drive it home: the raid on the Rocket Hideout is the 2nd time in the game you see them. The SECOND. Of THREE!!! The first is before the 2nd Gym, the 2nd is before what is meant to be the 7th Gym, and the last time is after the 7th Gym.
It's easy to see why I thought so little of Team Rocket when they were announced to return in USUM, given this was my sole exposure to them, and having gone in the intended order, meaning they were even lower below me than they were here, it was a wash, and my opinion of Team Rocket was basically....what is that it?

I kind of always go first to the hideout since they're so weak. Makes things flow a bit better.
If you want a tip, save a team spot or two for after the elite four, things go a lot better with a smaller team. Then you have a few other options in Kanto, like slugma, tyranitar, houndoom, khangaskan, Aerodactyl, blissey, etc.
"We discovered 100 new Pokemon after 3 years. They were just to the west of Kanto".
Okay, nice excuse, doesn't matter. Why are some of those 100 newly discovered Pokemon only found in Kanto, like Murkrow and Houndour?
I don't know how I feel holding off on a slot. Then again, this is the lowest levelled Elite Four in the franchise, starting at 40 and ending at 50. Plus movesets in this game are hilariously bad, so I expect no issues.
Currently I'm rocking with Golbat, Graveler, Bayleef, Lanturn and Quagsire.

Don't be afraid to hold on to a spot. There's still more game after that, after all.
And ha! Yeah the movesets, tell me about it. In my recent playthrough of silver on the virtual console I went with Jumpluff and Xatu.
One only learns a grand total of two damaging moves (the strongest of which has 40 power and learns it at level 44) and the other basically learns nothing useful until level 60-something.
It was an interesting experience to say the least.
Yeah I'm not sure what compelled them to make almost all the new Pokemon completely useless in terms of movesets. And the TMs in general were dreadful yeah.
I'm trying to remember the rest of my team...
I had Feraligatr (I would just use a chinchou to waterfall/flash whenever I absolutely had to), Pidgeot, Aerodactyl.... And someone else... Ugh which was it...?
I take it I'm not the only one who used to excessively grind up my teams by thrashing the Elite Four and turning Mt. Silver into a wasteland? Even the strongest trainer in the game fell against me! Evil Laughter
That was all back when I had way more time on my hands.
