Topic: Studios/Companies you hope Nintendo will buy?

Currently Nintendo is Japan's most profitable company, so it would make sense for them to invest in acquiring more studios and companies. Which ones do you hope Nintendo will buy? I personally think it would be cool if they bough Platinum Games, so they wouldn't have to worry about funds and be Nintendo would be able to get some more exclusives like Bayonetta and Astral Chain.

They need to invest in Krispy Kreme, so they can make Nintendo themed donuts.

The problem with buying studios for the talent is the talent can leave like with Rare and Retro.

If Ninty were to buy a studio then I’d rather it be for more western style games, particularly sports and racers as they are lacking in that department.

Buy EA and we can have The Sims and MySims games on Nintendo machines again without BS DLC and illegal business practices.

I'd probably hope they buy some borderline dead studios who need some help to stay in business, particularly if they've already worked with Nintendo in the past.

Other than that, Nintendo has worked with plenty of companies they don't own, so I don't think it especially matters. I mean, Platinum stuck with Nintendo through the Wii U days, I...don't think you need to worry about them not making games for Nintendo systems.

Purchasing companies isn't Nintendo's style. It still upsets me to this day that they didn't purchase Atlus when they were for sale back in 2015. No they much prefer to just contract other companies to develop a lot of their games. And the possibility of them buying Platinum is a pipe dream as Tencent is funding a number of their post-Bayonetta 3 projects.

I think nintendo should buy Matt Makes Games as level/Physics designers. (they could make Mario good again!)

Fire Emblem Three Houses is my favorite game
Ashe is the best character in FE:3H
Waluigi For Smash
The game I want most on switch is a new WarioWare (Welp. we got that!)

N should buy Sega, Atlus and Konami no matter the cost. Remake all their IP's and make new games.

On the whole successful developers value their independence and a willingness to sell usually just means that they want to get out of the business and do something else. It's worth considering that Nintendo don't own a majority stake in Intelligent Systems, HAL Laboratory or Game Freak despite all of them being heavily involved in key franchises for a very long time.

Nintendo never owned more than a 49% share in Rare either, with the Stamper Brothers always holding the controlling stake up until Microsoft bought both out both them and Nintendo. They lasted five years under Microsoft before moving on, so I'd think that Nintendo sold at the right time.

They did buy a controlling stake in Retro Studios, but that was for a startup studio at the time who hadn't even released a game yet, and were otherwise going to run out of money before Metroid Prime got finished. Similarly, Monolith Soft were struggling somewhat at Namco and Nintendo were able to offer them a financial lifeline that allowed them to revive the Xeno- series with the rest pretty much being history.

Such opportunities aren't going to come up very often though, so Nintendo aren't going to buy many studios. They're always on the lookout for potential partners though.

If nothing else, strongly agree that Konami should be bought by a company that actually still cares about video games, so that's a good idea at least.

Agree- the talking heads usually see a new studio as a printer for games and sometimes despise the actual creative engine behind the development.

I also think we've seen dodgey things from Nintendo depending on who is in charge, so leave well enough alone in the case of a strong independent studio.
Those actively seeking to be acquired would be another matter to judge independently.

You are what you eat from your head to your feet.

Bolt_Strike

Nintendo needs to buy Game Freak/TPC badly. They need to put their foot down on Pokemon because those two are devaluing the brand.

Beyond that, I'd like to see them buy SEGA. They seem to be going down the drain lately and I'd like to see Sonic handled by someone who's actually competent.

Atlus, simultaneous worldwide release should be the norm by now but with Atlus that only happens with Nintendo published releases where everything else is Japan exclusivity for at least 5-6 months.

@Bolt_Strike thing is if Ninty have a say in Pokemon already and if they really wanted to they can put their foot down so they don’t need to buy it. As Pokemon is making money then there’s not really a need to. If Ninty did put their foot down and Pokemon made less money then it could lead to them being chucked out into the cold.
