I was them support Muse a few years ago and they were really good but when I try listening to them at home it has to be short doses as they are too pop for me.
While I agree with @Anti-Matter that "rock music" can be from any source (and I enjoyed Concertino in Blue!), the topic by @Bizaster is more specific on rock songs written by/for rock groups for the music itself, not for another entertainement such as videogames or movies.
Oh and @jump , I would avoid using lyrics as a comparison to what is "superior", etc. It is indeed nice to have songs about current problems, for sure! But songs can be just about anything, and what about amazing instrumental songs? Would a song against racism be better than a song about kicking everyone you see in front of you, by the lyrics alone? It's just a matter of personal liking.
So, about the topic itself: I don't listen to Grunge, just not my style. I've been listening to Hard Rock a lot recently! Mötley Crüe, Guns 'n Roses, Van Halen, Tesla, Whitesnake, Skid Row, Boston, Warrant... There is something in that 80s music that gives me energy, songs about enjoying life, having a nice girl etc etc hahahahaha
And other metal/rock bands I listen the most, in no particular order:
Iron Maiden
Helloween
Sonata Artica
Pantera
KISS
Angra
Rush
Nightwish (with Tarja)
Black Label Society
Megadeth
Stratovarius
Blink-182
Green Day
The Offsping
Misfits
Masterplan
Greta Van Fleet
Blind Guardian
Hibria
There are more, for sure. I also listen to Vulpeck, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, synthwave, deep house, EDM, lo fi... but that's off topic hahahaha If anyone knows a more recent band that I might like, given the ones I mentioned, please say it! I love to discover new songs!

Well yeah, a song about kicking people sounds rubbish ;p
I do agree about what you're saying however Anti was talking about specifically "experiences" so something that provokes thought is a more elevated (if that's the right word) experience than some background noises on a dance game he likes and it was an easier example to make. I could use a band like The Skints which shows a cross blends of genres or Gojira for their impressive technical ability to get the point across but I just chose a vid someone had already posted it the thread with it's lyrics happening to be the experience to highlight.
Also the subject of the song was about the toxic idea of masculinity which may appeal to Anti (it will probably just fly over his head like most things though) since he often complains about not fitting into the masculine male alpha type.
@Bizaster Fun fact about Dave Grohl. There's a band called Ghost* and if you don't know they are a tongue in cheek satanic band where the front man is a satanic pope and the rest of the band are "nameless ghouls" and wear masks. In the past when Ghost have played LA where Grohl lives he will become one of the nameless ghouls to play drums during the gig and it's not adverised so the entire crowd have no idea they have just seen him.
*Ghost are really fun for the people that don't know them.
Dave Grohl has legitimately earned the name the nicest guy in rock. Did anyone follow the drum battles he was having with a 10 year old girl last year? It ended up with him admitting defeating and writing a song dedicated to her lol.
Maybe it's just Rambler who keeps mentioning them (I can't be arsed to check) but I'm surprised My Bloody Valentine have been mentioned so much. I'm not complaining as they are a good band, they are just one of those bands where time moves on and they are less relevant nowadays
I'm sure I did. Anyways, I've kinda avoided mentioning the kinds of bands everyone knows in this thread a bit. Much rather turn someone onto Idles or King Gizzard than sing the praises of Radiohead or The Beatles. With that said, here's a playlist of the music I listened to the most in the 2010s. Top 100 tracks, no duplicate artists. Pretty much entirely rock:
@skywake Well some people in this thread have only just listened to Rage Against The Machine so who knows what people have been to exposed to already. A couple of years ago on the last tour before Keith Flint passed away, I was talking to someone at work and mentioned how I was going to see Prodigy that night and they said they have never heard of them which blew my mind but in hindsight they were a teenager who only listens to rap so I shouldn't be surprised.
I'm surprised you listen to Blur, they are a good band (apart from when Graham Coxon left and they tried to do EDM) and are bigger than say Slowdive but I always assumed they were only big in the UK as they are very British in a way which I thought wouldn't translate to other countries.
I should really start using Spotify more just so I can keep track to what I'm listening to but I've seen so many DIY bands I like mention how the royalties from streaming are joke so I prefer to buy the music plus I with no wi-fi on the train Spotify isn't much help for the daily commute.
@Rambler My knowledge is a little thin for Belgian bands, is Belgium big for rock? France, Germany, Sweden and some other mainland Euro countries have fairly strong scenes but apart from Millionaire I don't know any Belgian bands. Even the biggest Belgian act I know is Soulwax/2ManyDjs.
@jump
I've no idea TBH!
I was thinking of the more extreme end, but back in the 90s there were Deus, Gore Slut, Zita Swoon, Vive La Fête (who did the amazing Noir Desire).
