Is the first game you played in the series, also your favourite?
The first game I played in the series was Fire Emblem on the GBA, and it's also the one I enjoyed the most. I was wondering if it was viewed as one of the better games in the series, or if it's just because it was a fresh experience.
Nope, for me my favourite is Conquest and it wasn't my first Fire Emblem. I loved that game, even story-wise which personally felt made more sense than Birthright, in which I felt characters out of character (from Nohr's side) according to what was established/shown in Conquest. My least favourite is actually the first game FE for Game Boy Advanced, simply because the gameplay feels way too simplified nowadays.
My first was Sacred Stones. While I think it had my favorite artstyle/animations, it was not my favorite game. I think Awakening and Three houses are superior games overall. I've only played those and Conquest though, so I can't compare to others.
Yeah, so far. Granted, I've only played two of the games, Three Houses and Awakening, where Three Houses was my first and still my favorite. After I get through some of my backlog I'm definitely going to play the others, but I think it'll be REALLY hard for another FE game to top Three Houses for me.
My first experience with the series was Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance on the GameCube. And what a wonderful experience it was...
I've been a fan of the series ever since, owning almost all games, except for the last two, but I did also backtrack to get my hands on the older, pre-GameCube games, and I've enjoyed these just as much.
But of course, there's never a chance for another first impression, so the GameCube version still stands out as one of the very best, in my humble opinion.
@Wargoose I started with Fire Emblem on GBA as well, and though I love the game dearly, I don't think I would call it my favorite anymore. I really love Awakening and Three Houses. But I love the whole series and I think Echoes is the only one that didn't really click with me. Though I blame the fact that they released it on 3DS after the Switch had been out for a while as a big part of that reason.
There hasn't been a single entry in the series that I have played and actually disliked. Although the game with Roy, that never got an official western release, is basically one big escort mission until Roy promotes, and that I didn't care for.

My first game was Fire Emblem Heroes.
My most recent game was Fire Emblem Heroes.
My favourite game was Fire Emblem Heroes.
I’ve never been a big Fire Emblem fan.
Heigh Ho Heigh Ho. It’s off to work (from home) I go.
@Wargoose My first was Fire Emblem Awakening (played whole game twice, second time for all paralogues) although I did own Sacred Stones first thanks to 3DS Ambassador Program. Then got Fates Special Edition (played through Birthright, Revelations and most of Conquest, minimal paralogues, no DLC). I sort of enjoyed fates but was not attached to the stories or characters as I was with Awakening, so Awakening was my favourite. Echoes, Shadow of Valentia came, I played a bit and never went back. I am unsure why.
Then Fire Emblem Three Houses came out. I have played through each of the three houses (not done the church yet) and have gotten most of the support conversations between all the characters. The game was fun and interesting, I cared about the characters because I got to know them unlike Fates where you just pick a side and have done. Everything in the gams felt more meaningful, and you could in theory make any unit do whatever you wanted if trained correctly. Three Houses is now my favourite and I can only hope the next game lives up to it.
@MS7000 I'm so jealous that you have Sacred Stones on 3DS. I wanted that so bad! I'm still real salty that Nintendo never gave us GBA virtual console on 3DS when we know it was capable of running them.
(hopefully we get something like that on Switch!)

@Heavyarms55 I still need to play it. I will probably get around to that soon. Sorry you couldn't get your hands on it.
I could be wrong, but I feel like GBA VC never properly happened because the GBA games on 3DS did not have restore point features and you could not access the home menu without closing the game entirely. I think that the GBA games were running by forcing the 3DS to act as a DS, then run the games like a DS would. My only supporting proof is that DS games would also force close if you needed to go to the home menu.
Since Nintendo probably wanted all VC to have the same experience and that GBA was prior to most VC functionality on 3DS, they probably did not want to release the GBA games due to a different experience. Whether that is a good reason or not is obviously up to you, but I feel that is why it happened that way.
GBA on Switch would be great. Heck, proper VC without a subscription on Switch would be great!
@MS7000 Yeah I know that's why it never happened but it was still a bummer. They had me so excited when I heard about it and it was something I wanted on 3DS the whole time I played mine regularly - which was right after the first price drop until the Switch came out.
I don't care if it is VC style or part of an NSO sub, I just want N64 and GBA on Switch in some fashion. I've a lot of nostalgia for those machines and would kill to have a good selection of titles from them on Switch.

In my case, Awakening was my first and is still my favorite. I've played most of the English releases since barring the two Tellius entries (since they're hard to find/expensive), Fire Emblem Echoes, and Three Houses.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
Nope for me. Awakening was a strong start, but Three Houses beats it out in almost every way. Fates was just okay. FE Warriors didn't hold a candle to Hyrule Warriors.
Those are the only ones I've played. I'm not a big tactics fan.
Sacred Stones was my first game, and since then I've played Blazing Blade (the GBA game that's just called Fire Emblem in the west), Shadow Dragon, and Three Houses. I'd say Blazing Blade is my favourite.
My first was GBA fire emblem and I really love that game however Three Houses tops my list. I just wish there was more recruitment options/variety in recruitable characters like there was in older games as I miss that. Hopefully next game won't be limited to one location for the whole game.
For the record I enjoyed Fates: Conquest more than Awakening but I am so glad they dropped the silly marriage/offspring system.
Question I'm gonna get fire emblem engage when it comes out on switch and I was wondering since this will be my first fire emblem game if there's any lore I'll need to know for the new game
@PS5_LOVER21 from what it looks like, it seems this game is going to be standing on it's own, but also a huge fan service type of game, given that it was originally intended to be an anniversary game for the series. Tons of older characters make a return, so I guess it helps to know them.

I started with the first game. Emulated and translated them as a kid because I needed something to do for summer break. But I didn’t love the series until Thracia 776. That being said Blazing Blade is still my favorite (Lyn is my favorite Lord although Lucina is right behind her) but many of the villains where somewhat sympathetic (Nergal lost his mind due the power he was dealing with but he ultimately wanted to see his wife and kids again) and I needed a sympathetic story at the time. That being said I like all of them. Tactics games don’t really age imo.
