Thanks, Odnetnin and Starboy! It certainly helps that I watched a youtube video of the game. It's easier to draw something if you know what it's supposed to look like. Before the video, I had even forgotten what the mushrooms on the first super mario bros. looked like[I own it on VC, but I never really play it]. EDIT: I just noticed a weird illusion-like thing. On my first version of the pixel art [the one without the blocks and extra stuff], focus your eyes on the ground texture. Slowly scroll up or down the page. Tell me if you see what I'm talking about
