Well, I have no idea why, but when I log into my account, there are no icons, and no taskbar. I can get the task manager to open. I've tried several things in safe mode (system restore won't work) like closing and re-running explorer.exe.....So nothing has been working. Anything else I can do? Also, I'm running Windows XP.

Well there's your problem. Unless by 'explorer' you don't mean Internet Explorer. Because of stupid things like whats going with you, is why I switched to Firefox.

Just for you.

Perhaps your computer has a virus to prevent you from deleting it? If that's so, all I can say is look at the programs in the processes tab, look for any suspicious names, and look that name up on the internet. Hopefully, that resource has a solution.

Maybe your operating system is corrupted. Did you make any recent updates to your computer and, I don't know, something strange happened (i.e. power outage, baby was around etc.)?

I wouldn't think it's a driver issue. Icons and the taskbar aren't tied to any device.

Hope this helps in any way...

EDIT: Maybe "explorer.exe" isn't starting up because it's blocked in that one program that manages default and start-up programs (I don't know if XP has it, for I'm using Windows 7).

@bobbiKat I've Googled all of the processes which I found suspicious, all of them are system processes iirc. No issues with updating, unless my family messed it somehow. Also, I better inform you that my PC was infected with a virus 2 weeks ago if my memory serves. I had a neighbor come over and remove it, and he installed some anti-virus software. @Viewtiful_Joe Oh God no, I'm not talking about Internet Explorer, I'm talking about Windows Explorer, which finds files iirc.

You might have to wipe the computer and do a clean Windows install.

Also Modern Windows explorer isn't that bad.

I seem to recall having a friend have this happen to him, but it was years ago and idk if he ever found a solution, I would try seeing if your neighbour knows how to fix it (he's gotta have some tech savvy if he fixed it last time)
