Topic: Nintendo Phone at E3?

Was the Playstation phone even successful? I never heard anyone talk about it.

No. Nintendo is a gaming company, and them trying to make a phone would be (A): pointless, and (B): would be COMPLETELY out of their wheelhouse, something that I think Nintendo would recognize once the words "Nintendo" and "Phone" were squashed into the same breath.

@Retro_on_theGo I have one...it's nothing special.
And to answer the question, I don't think a Nintendo phone would be very good. I realized with my phone that the two don't mix. I can't really get into a game on my phone and, at least for the Sony phone, the selection of games is very poor. I would assume Nintendo would push out some good games but I'd probably just stick with the 3DS.

Eventually, it will happen. No, I'm not saying it's going to be a smartphone with the Nintendo name slapped onto it, what I'm saying is that it's highly likely that next gen portables will have an optional phone feature. It'll still have a gaming button layout, physical media, and all that stuff, but you could also call someone with it (after all, even DS had a mic and speakers, so the tech is basically there). It'll just be a "phone" for gamers. After all, Apple is never going to add a complex button layout to the iPhone, because it would scare off it's mass audience that doesn't see it as a "games" device.

I think a "gamer's phone" is something Nintendo or Sony could really get a market for in the future. As I said before, due to it's mass appeal, Apple will never tailor make the iPhone for a specific purpose.

At this E3 though? Not on your life. 3DS has a good 3-4 years left.

It's not going to happen because Nintendo doesn't have the relationships with the phone network providers. The PlayStation Phone happened because Sony did.

You need to form relationships with network providers in every country you sell into to add phone features to a product, and those relationships are expensive, time consuming processes. It is not in Nintendo's interest to do this.

A Nintendo branded phone with someone who is looking for a point of differentiation (HTC or Samsung, perhaps) would be more likely. That would be an interesting idea.

Yes- IF, and only IF US carriers weren't... Okay, I can't say it here, but if only things were better. I have Virgin Mobile and I'm happy with them (It's a prepaid provider anyhow- it works for me). Also, if they use Android OS, I'd hope it'd be optimized for the phone. Or, Nintendo can use their own reliable OS.

Oh, and hopefully a new phone isn't released every year. You know what that means- Get a phone in 3005, new version comes out 3006 and most games from 3006 and out won't support the 3005 model. Just an example. I mean, at least iPhones don't have that problem- or, it does.. But it's not as big as it is on Android.

I just hope reliability and sustainability from Nintendo's consoles would be reflected on their phone. If such a thing were to happen.

The one thing that makes a crappy Smartphone game worse, is when you're in the middle of playing and someone calls you, interrupting your game.
I don't think Nintendo is going to go down this route, and it's for the better.
Portable gaming systems are good for gaming and phones are good for making phone calls, and both would be poor at doing the other's job (which Smartphones are a good demonstration of).
If I want to play a game, I pull my 3DS out of my left pocket and if I want to make a phone call I pull my phone out of my right pocket.
It's not too difficult to carry two devices around.

Yeah.. my 3DS would probably be a better phone than the smartphone I have. But when I thought about it.. Playing Smash Bros. and someone interrupting me while playing would indeed annoy me. I get annoyed when getting phone calls at the wrong time. Every time I'm occupied, I get a phone call. When I'm not.. Phone is silent x_x

I doubt it will be a Nintendo Phone; more likely it'll be a gaming console with phoning capabilities. For example, my iPod Touch isn't a phone, but I can get an app that makes it a phone, in a way.

Think of all the cool ringtones (world 1-2) and message alerts (Wa Hooo!) and clock alarm (level timer running out music speeds up desperation). This might be the next thing some doom n gloom analyst/investor will bring to the Iwata round mushroom table.

would everyone else in the match hear your conversation?

maybe do text messages and the light blinks on your blue when you get a text(not releated to swap note) but not a phone unless your willing to stay on the software and not leave to play a game
