@Sunsy Wow I never knew people dislike the movies! After all they have 2 Minions movies and 4 Despicable Me movies, so they must be doing something right.

Despicable Me and Hotel Transylvania movies are regularly watched with the wife

I'm excited that 1993 anime classic Ninja Scroll is hitting theatres in September.

It was one of the "Big Three" original gateway anime movies for adult audiences
(along with Akira and Ghost in the Shell).
To Western eyes used to animated movies being of the Disney variety, they were quite the revelation!

@Zuljaras Yeah, throughout the years of being online, I often see people dislike most of the movies, save for the first one. Mostly citing Minions as the main reason. At least from what I've seen online anyway.

Cool you watch them regularly. I enjoy watching them from time to time, I watched the first Despicable Me and Minions awhile back. Actually, I had to do an early morning errand and found a drink with Bob topper at the local convenience store.

@Zuljaras Honestly, I actually got a good laugh out of the airplane scene in Minions: The Rise of Gru. BTW, I saw news today, they announced Minions 3 for 2027.

@Sunsy Oh cool! I wonder what it'll be about since the last one was Gru when he was a kid.

I haven't seen the fourth Despicable Me or the second Minions movie, but yeah, the general reception or consensus for the franchise is basically "the first film was the only good one and the sequels and spinoffs are bad" but I honestly didn't think the second or third film was bad, and I did like the second one despite thinking the first film is probably the best out of the ones I have watched already. I can remember watching the Blu-ray for it a couple of times years ago, but I don't remember the first Minions movie a lot, unlike the main films.

People have mentioned the Minions as being the worst parts of the films after the first because of how annoying they get and how many fart jokes they make, and while that can be unfunny, I don't mind it. The Minions don't bother me and I honestly think the films would be more boring and less fun if they were removed entirely, not to mention they are meme material lol. I can remember the Gentleminions trend that was popular a few years ago when Rise of Gru was in theatres. That was so silly.

@Pastellioli The Macho remembrance scene from the second one where Gru tells his story was one of the manliest things ever shown!

People just don't like when a thing becomes popular so it must be hated.

Pastellioli

@Zuljaras The nacho hat with the guacamole in the second film is so creative and hilarious and is maybe one of the best parts of it. I do think the second film has plenty of memorable moments as well! I really do appreciate lighthearted movies, and they can be a good way to pass the time and just have fun. I wonder what they will do with the third Minions movie in a few more years.

@Zuljaras I can remember coming across that video! The guy is so creative and does a good job of bringing fictional foods to life.

Yesterday, I watched Trolls World Tour and watched Trolls Band Together today. Was raining the past two days so watched a few of my favorites. I didn't watch the first Trolls, mostly because I watched it the day I went to Trolls x CAMP awhile back. Being movie related, Trolls x CAMP was cool. It brought me into the world of my favorite movie series and I got to meet Poppy (awesomely, the same meetable character from Universal's park). Was a fun event.

@Pastellioli That pretty much sums up the opinions I see on the Despicable Me and Minions movies. Personally, I like the first two movies, can't remember much of the third movie, and enjoyed both Minions movies. I found the Minions movies to be on the fun side, while I love the story of Despicable Me to have heart about a supervillain turning from his evil ways and becoming a father. Don't find the series to be bad at all.

Maybe one day, I'll watch the third film again, I have Peacock so all I need to do is find the time to watch it.

A random question and I don't know if anyone will see it, but are there any popular or well-known films that you haven't seen?

I've seen a lot of people mentioning how influential and cool it is, but I will admit that I have not seen The Matrix. A game I played was chockful of film parodies, and The Matrix was one that they parodied at the end. I do know that the film is known for its special effects and slow-mo and the bank robbery scene, but besides that, I haven't seen it and I don't even know anything about the plot. To anyone who has seen it, is it good, and which streaming services have it? I don't know if Max has it or not. I do want to watch a few films that the game I played parodied. I also haven't seen Saving Private Ryan either. I really wanna know what the fuss is about those two.

@Sunsy I think the films are more enjoyable if you of course don't go in expecting masterpieces or aren't a film analyst or critic. I have the most memories with the second film; I recall my family and I making root beer floats with vanilla ice cream at home and watching the film together. I think that the films (especially the first and second ones) are super enjoyable. I think I have the most fun with movies that aren't extremely serious and are super lighthearted and simple, which helps with my usually negative mood.

Of the IMDB Top 250 movies, I've seen 202 so far.

The highest-rated I haven't seen yet is #44 Grave of the Fireflies.

...I will admit that I have not seen The Matrix.

The movies you mentioned are ranked #16 and #24 best movies of all-time on IMDB. They're both all-time classics.

I skipped The Matrix when it originally hit theatres because to me the trailer and ads made it look like "mindless gunplay". It's one of the stupidest decisions I've ever made (I also missed out on The Sixth Sense and Fight Club for the same reasons...the trailers didn't convince me).

I don't know what country you're in, but I use justwatch.com to find out where things are streaming (or where I can rent, etc.). In Canada it's justwatch.com/ca

I think it would take longer to list the well-known films I haven't seen than ones I have. There are some I definitely do want to check out (e.g. 2001: A Space Odyssey, Jurassic Park [which I've seen part of but got bored and turned it off; will give it another go one day], The Dark Knight, Inception, It's a Wonderful Life), some I'm not desperate to watch but would be open to doing so (Lord of the Rings, Titanic, Terminator, Casablanca, Gone With the Wind), and quite a few I have absolutely no interest in (The Godfather, The Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction). I've seen The Matrix, it's alright but pretty forgettable to me.

When it comes to animated films I have seen most of the classics though at least. There are some notable exceptions like The Iron Giant, Princess Mononoke, Akira and Sleeping Beauty, but I'll get those one day I'm sure.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

I've got a big list of misses too. 2001: A Space Odyssey is one, Schindler's List is one I ought to watch but somehow haven't, and I haven't seen movies like The Matrix, Titanic, Godfather start to finish either. I'm similarly hit or miss with animated movies, I've seen lots of Ghibli's catalogue but not NausicaƤ nor Takahata's stuff like Only Yesterday and My Neighbours The Yamatos.

Not gonna lie though, if Earthsea and Earwig and the Witch are as bad as I've heard I'm ok not seeing 'em.
