@jump That just proves his range as an actor! I'm glad he's doing better after his health scare earlier in the year.

@KAIRU To each their own but in the movie world where there are people like John Hurt, Denzel Washington, Cate Blanchett, Gary Oldman, Sidney Poitier, Joaquin Phoenix, Frances McDormand, Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, Toshiro Mifune, Peter Sellers, Meryl Streep etc I'd find it very tough to put Jamie Foxx above them all myself.
Shoot, I forgot to add Chris Pratt as he can play Lego, working class Italian Americans, dinosaur wranglers and creepy space guys!!!
@jump We can't be forgetting about Chris Pratt! 😂
And speaking of Meryl Streep, she was bloody excellent in The Devil Wears Prada.

Is there a reason Injustice was rated R? I’ve been looking on the IMDB page and nothing seems to be more than PG-13 level stuff.
I was also confused why the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was rated R.
Suicide Squad (2016, not the James Gunn sequel/reboot which was much better) was only PG-13, and it was more deserving of an R rating than BvS.
In the UK, all versions of BvS were rated 12 while Suicide Squad was 15.
I can totally get why Zack Snyder's Justice League was rated R. That's the goriest of the DCEU outside of Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad.
BvS was not much more violent than the PG-13 theatrical cut.

The 3DS looks best with the 3D Slider set to Full.

Injustice, jebus this was bad! I would have turned it off but I was watching it during my workout so I couldn’t be arsed to find another film. It’s the kind of pathetic bad so you can’t even laugh at like The Room or had ambition it couldn’t reach. It’s a shame as the DC animation studio was fantastic before Bruce Timm left as it was well done and didn’t mess about with Hollywood formulas like the Marvel movies, they just adapted the comics. This joins my worstest everest seenest movies along with Cruel Intentions 2, Batman: Killing Joke (100% proof Alan Moore is right), Mr Harrigan’s Phone, Blues Brothers 2000, the remake of Pulse and if I could tell them apart various Carry On and Police Academy films.
@Rambler I wanted to play a game to see how BBFC would describe some weird films. However Stange Circus didn't come up at all, Threads and Gummo had no descriptions (probably because they are older) and 9 Songs also didn't have a description but they did have an entire case study published for it.
@Rambler I've now lost all trust in them since they can't get basic facts like the date right so I'm taking my three year old niece to a 3D showing of Love instead of Spider Man 10 regardless of their wrong rating!
Been on a Nicolas Cage kick lately. Watched both The Rock and Con Air last night. Both of them classics.
Also saw John Wick 4. Those films never disappoint. A fitting ending, though I suspect they could easily keep it going if they so chose
@jump
My one issue with his films has been the audio mixing. There were some scenes in both Tenet and Interstellar where I just couldn't hear the dialog. Maybe it's cause he knows the script by heart so his brain fills in the gap subconsciously, but for someone watching the first time and who doesn't know what's about to be said, it needs to be a little louder. My UB-820 has an "enhance dialog" function though that works better than the Dolby and DTS options so that at least helped a little.
Aside from that though, I love the crazy concepts of time he explores.
@WoomyNNYes
Only thing I didn't get is why sometimes they used masks and other times they didn't. Wasn't til I realized they inverted again and were moving forward that it made sense. Except on the boat. Dude walks in wearing a mask and then takes it off once inside. Still confused by that.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced
Flash, it’s fun however the movie has a feeling similar to gorging yourself on junk food or urinating in an alley at night as strangers walks past so you’re ridden with guilt afterwards. I’m sure people are gonna love it but it just feels gross using CGI, AI and all sorts of other acronyms to bring back from the dead an array of cameos so people can clap like trained seals because they understand the references. Or maybe I’m not giving it enough credit as it’s actually arty symbolism, like empty dead CGI actors is meta commentary for the state of superhero movies. Plus you have Ezra Miller the star of the documentary We Need To Talk About Kevin for an extra eww feeling. Just watch the Flashpoint cartoon movie, same thing but better.
Elvis, their take was to focus on Elvis’ manager played by Tom Hanks who chews it up as a baddie kinda like a mix of Gollum and a Bond villain. It ain’t a bad take but they ignore all the other bits like Elvis grooming girls, drugs etc as well as a lack of insight into Elvis himself. The movie is made like a constant non-stop commercial/music video/TikTok clip which lasts for over 2 hours, there are some truly great films like RRR or Mad Max Fury Road which hit like an unstoppable truck but they were made by insanely talented George Miller and SS Rajamouli whilst Elvis was made by the silly billy behind The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge. As it’s from the guy that put Jay Z & Kayne West in a film about 20s jazz as well as KISS and Nirvana in a film about 1800s Paris cabaret you also hear Dojo Cat, Eminem etc in the soundtrack. In the context of film of someone flashy but vapid like Elvis (he was a performer rather than a musician) it suits the film. I do like the bit where Elvis starts making I hate Elvis merch, gotta make dollar dollar off the haterz.
Megan, meh. As a horror it fails to scare or build dread, as a thought provoking sci-fi it fails to say anything and the things it does say have been said a lot said better already and as popcorn entertainment it’s very mild as there’s jokes rather than it’s funny, there’s action rather than actioned packed and there’s viral moments rather than cinematic moments.
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, more like a play than a movie but jebus this was brilliant! This film has it all great acting with interesting choices, Thatcherism subtext, gorgeous and clever costumes and sets, forks stuck into peoples faces, a big climax, surrealism, shouting, a weird singing angel like child, raw feelings, violence, quotable dialogue, nudity, cool cinematography, cannibalism, good writing, fine dining, great use of colours and lighting, satire comedy which is taking the wee-wee without people realising it etc which all comes together incredibly well which is the most impressive thing.
@Rambler nah, it was a DVD. I was doing a favour for my Uncle and taking a load of his old DVDs to CEX to sell as he can’t go himself. I gave him a quid per DVD for the ones I’d wanted to see since I looked at the prices of some of them and it’s like 5p-50p for them. I also got The Ipcress File which I’ve not seen before which I’m just gonna pretend is a Michael Caine as Bond film and Don’t Look Now with the rest being garbage movies.
@Rambler I’ve only seen The Innocents from those but I remembering it being decent. I watched it as a kid as my Gram was a Deborah Kerr fan.
You’ve recommended Celine And Julie Go Boating and I’ve gone to watch it twice now only as it’s 3 hours I realise I’ve not got the time for it so I end up not watching it.
Just rewatched Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse for the second time in prep for seeing it's sequel tomorrow evening and I swear to god: it gets better every single time I see it. I was watching it along with my sister (who had somehow managed to both never see it before AND remain spoiler-free for the past 5 years) and we were both blown away by how often the animation/style took our breaths away. I know it's not exactly the most revelatory thing to state in regards to Spider-Verse (it looks good? GET OUT OF TOWN), but with the service we were watching it on buffering often due to current bad weather here in Ireland, we were really able to appreciate how each individual frame genuinely looks like an utterly astounding piece of art (with the fact they were able to link them all together in a cohesive manner even moreso). Couple that with a lot of the other praises people have sung about it (great characters, music choices and excellent camera work/framing) and it's unquestionably one of my favourite superhero movies of all-time....which is why I'm even more excited to see Across the Spider-Verse tomorrow since apparently it's somehow EVEN BETTER.
I can't wait guys 🕷
