Dang, I wish The Boys wasn’t TV- Mature, it sounds like an awesome series.

Currently playing: Pokemon Soul Silver, Mario RPG

@Owl1
I haven’t seen it, but I know it far exceeds what I’m willing to watch, which is anything over pg-13. I’m fine with the Arrowverse for my superhero shows.

@blindsquarel I have seen 3 R-rated things and 2 of them were Docs the other was a modern PG-13 movie that was rated R back then.

@EaglyPurahfan thanks for the heads up! But you mention that spider verse had a lot of them, I should go back and check has those are the only two I know lol!

Spiderverse two honestly sounds like perfect sequel, it does what a sequel should.

Just got Super Mario Bros Movie on 4k Bluray. I saw it in theaters and thought it was decent. But seeing it a 2nd time... Idk. It was way better. I've never seen a movie like this before, where I enjoyed it soooo much more the 2nd time. Maybe it's because I knew what was going to happen and could appreciate the details I missed the first time around. Idk. But I really liked it.

I'm going to see "Kiki's Delivery Service" tomorrow at my theater as part of the 2023 "Ghibli Fest".

Kiki's Delivery Service is one of Ghibli's best.
I just hope the Studio Ghibli films get theatrical releases here in the Philippines. But they were never released here until 2020 on Netflix.
Before that, you had to rely on pirated DVDs from China. And many local Filipino shows stole assets from Ghibli films before the actual films came out here.

saw Transformers Rise of the Beasts at the theater earlier today. Spoilers alert

Arcee being nice and shiny while Optimus has that worn out and beat up look
the Noah character and Mirage do a weird fusion thing. sort of like what went on in Dragon Ball Z and the Mega Man Battle Network cartoon

Movie is set during 1994. alot of rap and hip hop music. Plus a dumb reference to Marky Mark

Possible G.I. Joe crossover

Unicron actually being a threat unlike the Fallen from Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen

Noah being the reluctant chosen one hero like Sam

By the way, of all the movies in my Blu-Ray library, only two are rated R ("Sausage Party" and "Nope").

Saw Rise of the Beasts earlier today. It was far better than i expected. I was mostly stoked to see Optimus Primal since I used to watch Transformers: Beast Wars back when I was a kid. No going to say more due to spoilers, so I'll leave it at that. But it was good enought to get me to buy the Blu-Ray/DVD release at some point.

That said, i'm looking forward to seeing Godzilla & Kong: The New Empire next year or so.

Just saw Across the Spider-Verse in 35mm, and I already believe that this is one of the best films of all time. It's so great it makes Into the Spider-Verse, already one of the best films of all time, look mid by comparison.
If you went back in 2016, right when The Emoji Movie released its first teaser, and told me that the creators of The Emoji Movie would make yet another Spider-Man reboot without Marvel Studios right after The Amazing Spider-Man 2, that reboot would be one of the best films of all time, and it would have a sequel so amazing it would make the first film look mid by comparison. I would have called you crazy.

I am hoping that this film or Hayao Miyazaki's How Do You Live would be the first animated film to win Best Picture.

Watched Tenet last night...

I remembered the final scene so I know I've watched it before, but I didn't remember any of it. That movie is crazy

My mind is still grappling with the plot of Tenet. I think I'm officially a Christopher Nolan fanboy.

@JaxonH I thought that sci fi premise for Tenet was cool af. Creeped me out, too, with them needing oxygen tanks to go backward.

@JaxonH I think I called the twist pretty early when watching it. I think the biggest problem with Tenet was the marketing, the likes of Inception had trailers which basically told you the gimmick upfront so you needed less time to figure the movie world rules as you watched it but the trailers for Tenet were awful. The trailer should have just said "stuff is backwards innit", job done!

I like Nolan but I think he's held back by not understanding emotions, it's often like watching a movie made by a robot that has read an instructions manual of the human condition rather than a passionate filmmaker needing to get their story out. The elegancy of The Killing Joke-esque ending of The Dark Knight was butchered and Interstellar was meant to have a love-dovey core which felt off are two that come to my mind. I think he just needs to find the right actors to work with, since movies are a collaborate effort despite folk often praising just the director, who can work with him and get the emotions out of their characters.

Also stuff Ive seen!

Spider Man 10, I give it 6.66/10 as a 2+ hours kids film with no ending it’s only really 2/3rds of a film. It also means the next one will be 3.33/10! There’s plenty of flab and busy work that could easily be cut to make way for an ending. As a lot of people said it’s mind blowing I was expecting the movie to blow me more but hey-ho. However all that does not change how utterly gorgeous of a film it is, not just because of the constant art styles lobbed at you but the camera work is really ambitious too, arguably too extravagant to the point it detracts but still lovely stuff. I’m disappointed the focus is on the need to kill police captains when there are Gwen Stacey necks that need snapping too. Also I’ve figured out the next film already, different Earth had an existing Spider Man which means Daddy cop doesn’t have to die. Thumbs up for making Ben Riley a sad sack. The soundtrack is a step backwards, the first one was part of the DNA of the movie but now it’s just songs that are there. I saw it in a fancy cinema where a hostess gives a little speech before the movie starts (like they always do) but this time it included saying there’s no post credit scenes, that’s good customer service! Highlight of the film was Spider Punk voiced by Daniel Kaluuya, great character and the only one with integrity, I also loved his cockney slang translation boxes.

The Call, as I’m racist I was looking forward to this as South Koreans make the best thrillers. It’s like a mystery murder version of The Lake House about teen girls with a time phone. It’s good with some clever moments with a great moody and slick atmosphere but I clocked onto the twists too early which kinda spoiled it for me. Highlight of the film was they did what I would if I had access to the future. Forget lottery numbers or sporting events/stock info I could make money from, I’d just ask for my favourite bands future albums!

The Worst Person In The World, a Norwegian 20 something find yourself dramedy a bit like an anti-Amelie that got a lot of praise for being subversive and had lots of writing awards nods. It’s good although to be honest I’ve seen this “I’m meant to be happy but not” indecisive character type of film loads of times already and there’s a lack of a wrinkle to make it really stand out. Maybe if it was an American film sure, I can see it’s high praise but European films have been doing stuff like talking about sex, dark thoughts and drugs for decades now anyway. It does get the feel of using phones and social media right though which movies are still struggling to do. There’s a lot of really cool moments in it like the air drums, freezing time and the trippy scene which is why it remind me of Amelie. The real strength of it is the acting of Renate Reinsve who both charms and elevates the writing so I’m sure she is gonna be picked to be a love interest or the scientist who explains things in a bunch of mid Hollywood films soon. Highlight of the film is seeing the Norwegian equivalent of singing happy birthday, I’m gonna insist people sing that to me now!

Prisoners Of The Ghostland, Nicholas Cage further cementing he should never have been a Hollywood star as he is a great B-movie star instead now teams with mad Japanese director Sion Sono who was responsible for Suicide Club and other brilliantly weird films. I came into it as a Sono fan rather than a Cage fan, as a Cage vehicle it’s good although as a Sono film it lacks his usual weird subtext which I thought was because it’s his first English film but it was because he didn’t write it which is a shame as his real strength is his bonkers ideas. The sets and imagery look great, the action is enjoyable, the score is an interesting western-samurai hybrid but I just wanted something more under the surface. Highlight of the film was all the creepy singing the characters did, I had to put it back to see it again.
