Well you weren't very clear in the opening post. You ripped a Rated M game so I assumed that is what your talking about. Also "Mature" in the gaming community is almost only talked about in the rating sense. So it's easy to get skewed.
It might have helped if you would have stated what your definition of mature is as well. From what I can tell you are of the opinion the violence and gore is immature. While it's not philosophically deep I would call it kiddy that's for sure. You brought up Zelda as it's message of love and healing as mature and that is a basic concept that even a six year old could appreciate as illustrated in nearly every children's book and television program.
The purpose of this thread was to ask people of their opinion of what is a mature game. So, basically: just say Wii Sports. Your granny is playing it. Or Civililization or something whatever.
Assassin's creed- love the setting during the crusades and the sci-fi twit is done well. Ubisoft. Did a good job on researching history andlooking at what the enviorments are like. Ialso the set up for the missions is great where you have to steal documents, beat people up and easdrop for infomation. The game took a bigger term when you complete all the missions before an assination and realize how easier the documents with guard placments are or stealing letters that causes people not to work that shift.
WAT!
Hey check out my awesome new youtube channel shingi70 where I update weekly on the latest gaming and comic news form a level headed perspective.
but people play usually games to be fun. I love mature themes that are actually mature and deep and clever and stuff like that but sometimes I want to play the immature and AWESOME Bulletstorm. Because it's fun.

Yep, it's a matter of taste and i'm enjoying to loosen my screws with a bit of running and gunning sometimes too.
Mature rated means the game contains content not intended for underage people. It has absolutely nothing to do with overall theme or story of the game.
Some parents are sensitive to their children or teens being exposed to excessive blood, cursing, nudity, drugs etc...... the M rating is to warn parents the game may contain content they do not approve.
Isn't this really just a matter of opinion? There is no right or wrong? I mean, sure, there's an M on mature games's boxes, but some people let their 5 year old kids play mature games and consider it okay.
When all else fails, eat a taco.

Well, I don't want to define my views on this, so I'll just say what I felt was the most mature game I've played: 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine doors
Best thread ever

I gotta say, kkslider, you must have some sort of mind-reading power. Those are almost the exact same words I would use to describe my own opinion. I love games that actually understand what it means to be mature, but I also love the games that beat the idea of "Maturity" with their ripped-off stuffed animal heads. That reminds me, I really have to get Saints Row 2...

On the subject of mature games, I feel blood, guts, violence, etc does not make a game mature. In fact, I would argue that the vast majority of those who play these types of games are quite immature people. Take Mad World for instance (Yep, using a Wii game so I don't get flamed for hating on other systems), that is one of the most over the top violent, gory games this generation and yet, I consider that game to be highly immature. Is it still fun? Sure but just having the violence and gore doesn't automatically make something mature. Now games in the legend of Zelda series for instance may be rated E (or on occasion T) but I feel those games amongst other games are more mature for NOT using over the top violence , gore, or weapons (if that makes any sense at all). I also feel Zelda players are more mature than your average Gears, COD, Halo, etc player because they don't have to try to prove their maturity by exclusive playing only violent games. So I guess what I'm basically saying is that blood, guts, violence does not make a game or its players mature and in a lot of cases, actually goes the other way. A game with deep, meaningful, thought provoking subject matter is indeed the most mature games in my mind (That doesn't mean violent games can't be very mature. As moomoo said, 999 is an extremely violent game but also a mature game for mature people because of its deepness and the way in which it uses gore.)
So, basically you're asking what games we think are "hardcore"? I still don't understand the point of this topic. Are you just asking what games have a deep story, or artistic merit or something...? The word "mature" in its gaming context has little to do with mental age.

There's a difference between Mature and Hardcore. Blood and gore doesn't make a game hardcore but Mature as in for mature audiences not 12 year old kids. Hardcore is well... a silly term people try and hide behind to make themselves or others look superior...

Don't be silly. Generalizing people is never a good thing.

My head still hurts from trying to figure out what this thread is about. If it's about what I think makes mature, then I suppose Kid_A summed up my thoughts just right. If you want an example of a mature game, I was gonna list Bioshock, but that was 8 hours ago and now I've completely forgotten why it was mature.
