For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
I also feel Zelda players are more mature than your average Gears, COD, Halo, etc player because they don't have to try to prove their maturity by exclusive playing only violent games.
Don't be silly. Generalizing people is never a good thing.
Well too bad. IMO, the ratio of mature Zelda players is higher than that of the players of so-called "hardcore games." Obviously there are some mature folks who play those kinds of games and some immature ones who play Zelda but I feel like there are more mature folks in the Zelda camp than the Gears/COD/Halo camp.

Personal bias.

So a game filled with fairies has more 30 year olds playing it than Call of Duty? Hm.

It depends upon your personal views of maturity, and what is and is not mature. I think pretty much any game can be "mature", besides some with extreme hyperviolence or sexual themes, which I find to be somewhat immature. Really, you cannot define a game as mature or immature most of the time, but rather, the person playing it. You can also evaluate the reason said player is playing it, and if that is mature or immature. Kirby can be just a mature of a game as CoD or GoW, based upon my views of maturity. This thread is not exactly going to do anything but cause many, many miscommunications and pointless flame wars over a very opinionated topic, which I find silly.
bboy2970's opinion is valid. He is not stating it as fact, to anyone other than himself. He finds there are more X than Y. (Whatever X and Y may stand for, at any given time) How is that not an opinion? I might think there are more Y than X from my experience, he might find the opposite from his experience.

Maturity is not the same as one's age. There is an astounding amount of children and teenagers who play CoD merely because they think it makes them mature, or makes them feel mature/cool. These players are immature. The majority of players who play Zelda play it simply because it is an enjoyable experience. I would say these gamers are more mature. We can sort of compare the maturity of gamers within a certain age group, even if not the populous as a whole. Looking at the age group of children and adolescents, I would say that the average Zelda player is indeed more mature than your average CoD player. This, as stated before, is highly opinionated.

I didn't think of it that way. I guess I'm too used to math being...constant? (blanking on a word here)

It is. But stating you think a mathematical evaluation is correct, is an opinion. It means from his experience he thinks there are more X than Y is all. X and Y are variables which cannot be determined. In his evaluation his estimations of the true values of X and Y are different than yours. We cannot factually determine X and Y, so we use other factors to guess the numbers. You guess one is higher than the other, he guesses the opposite. I don't see any problem. It isn't like he's saying one is more than two and you're stating the opposite. Although that is still an opinion.
EDIT: And constant? Maybe with some forms of math. (10+12)*2 is 44. That's not what we are talking about. Is (X+Y)*Z always a certain number? No. That is what we are talking about, essentially. Our jobs are, via our experiences and logical processes, to estimate to the best of our abilities what X, Y and Z are.

That latter part was unnecessary, seeing as Constant wasn't what I meant. Anyways, I guess there was no problem, I just wasn't thinking clearly, I'm having an off day.
The only real problem is that we can't take bboy's opinions seriously because his opinions are heavily skewed. Oh wait, I guess that isn't a problem, either. I really am having an off day today.

I tend to come off as being... mean. Really. I'm not trying to be an ***. If his opinions tend to have a heavy bias, I suggest not bothering to discuss them with him then, as that will only serve to frustrate you. And him. It's not like you're going to magically change his mind. I find this whole thread hazy and unnecessary. It is too much of a opinionated topic, and the kind which will get people's backs up. "You calling me immature for playing CoD just cause you're happy playing your stupid Zelda fairy land?" is the kind of stuff I'd expect as responses on other boards. This is exactly the kind of topic which starts heavy flame wars (NL's forum users are pretty good in this regard, luckily).
I have learned from the Internets that a children's game played by adults is mature, but an adult's game played by children is immature.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
To actually take the question for what it's worth... a "mature game" would be one with a deep and provoking story that actually challenged people's minds and made them think. The video game medium doesn't really lend itself well to this type of storytelling, since it's all about interactivity, and the average video game player isn't really looking for something like that in his/her games anyway - games are treated as a relaxing pastime activity purely for entertainment - it's like watching Die Hard instead of reading Dostojevsky. There's nothing wrong with that, but they are pretty opposite extremes.
There have been attempts - I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream being the prime example - but it's pretty unexplored ground for natural reasons. People want immature and simple games because that's more relaxing, and if they want to read something with substance, they go elsewhere for that.
Was that really in the game? I haven't played it in like 4 years so I don't remember that part (I do know the sequence and what Peach needs to do). Too much dialogue to remember everything D:
