Hi, guys. Sorry for completely falling off of this thread for a few months.
So, anyway! The finale! What did I think of it?
...The more I think about it the more I hate it.
Okay, maybe I should somehow give some sort of text/visual representation.
Then: Wow, that was quite good! Nice to see the series finally end.
Now: Wow, that episode explained almost NOTHING about the previous plots that were hinted at! And did I say I was just happy to see the show end? I am disappointed in myself.

I know exactly how you feel. The episode itself was epic, exciting and emotional. As time passes though, the more disappointed I feel. 6 Seasons of perfection completely ruined by the final 10 minutes. Crazy!
I was sooo looking forward to re-watching the whole show once it was done. Now, I won't even be buying the box-set, which I had been planning to all along. :/ I mean, what's the point? I'll only get annoyed by all the little details instead of enjoying them.
Buy a camera instead, and re-shoot the last episode.
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
Some of you guys are complaining about lack of answers, but I`m satisfied. I think it was the darlton`s intentions to keep wondering making theories about how they all end up.
No, it was Darlton's intention to pull stuff out of their butts so as to entice fans with a story they would eventually give up on. Their intention was to excite and intrigue the show's fans with science, myth, and lore, only to take the easy route at the end and lean on the oh so reliable (yet extremely flaky) spiritual explanation.
I loved the show, but a lot (I mean A LOT) of the events that took place within it's six year run are now completely meaningless and actually had no bearing on the story whatsoever, and were in fact, filler. The finale seems like a different entity to the rest of the series. At odds with itself almost. Just like I have become whilst attempting to reminisce about this show.
I'm glad some are satisfied, but there are many of us who are not.
@Chucko I get your point of view, but the thing is that they never answered anything else that was mentioned in the previous episodes. AT ALL. They even made up new stuff in the final episode! That, my friend, is extremely lazy storytelling.

No, I wouldn't say that. I'm really glad I watched it, it was a f*****g awesome ride, one I will never forget. It had some of the best pacing and editing I've ever seen on a TV show, and the casting was superb. Top notch.
I just wish I hadn't become so consumed by it, and the mysteries within, because I walked away empty handed.
edit: Y'know what, I could have dealt with unanswered questions, and would have. But, that 'sideways' reveal was just ridiculous. :/
I've said it before, and i'll say it again, but if anyone thought that Darlton wasn't making up 90% of everything as they went along (until about sometime during the 4th season or so), they weren't paying attention and/or had more blind faith in their creative talents. I almost completely gave up during the 3rd season because of that, but the show was still onbjectively good, so i couldn't stop myself.
Nothing prevents us from going back and watching the old episodes, trying to puzzle together the meanings of different events. I'll still enjoy that (actually just last night watched the ep where Locke goes to Jacob's Cabin and meets "Christian"). It may be dissapointing that the show didn't focus its resolution more on some of that, but it doesn't bother me. Of course, individual mileage may vary.
It's like with Twin Peaks (kinda) -- there was a $#!*load of unanswered, unexplained things going on there that will never have explanation(half because it was cancelled, half because Lynch is a whackadoo), but it's always enjoyable to go back and watch the show and try to piece stuff together.
Moving on to happier thoughts, i would love to see a quick little webisode or something about Hurley as Jacob at some point. Even just a quick little tongue-in-cheek bit (like when Kevin Smith did the "Flying Car" short featuring Randall and Dante from Clerks).
Well Sir, you will be pleased to hear that there will be a 15 minute epilogue on the box-set, which will detail Hurley and Ben, post finale.
And I'm sorry for jabbering on. At least I'm not as bad as some of the H-core nuts who still wanna know who Henry Gale was, and the food-drop, and the shoot-out on the canoes, blah de blah.

SWEET! I had heard that there was going to be some extra stuff on the dvd, but didn't know what. BTW, speaking of "tongue-in-cheek" stuff, i hope they include the "alternate endings" from the Kimmel special. The "Survivor" one was great just for Naveen's performance (to Michael: "Where have you been?!" Then: "I did not survive all this to get eliminated by Jeff F*#ing Probst!")
On the Island-mysteries, i think that there really is enough there that we as fans can piece together our own answers (even if there's not a "real" answer) if we so choose.
But as an aside, even though this mystery isn't as big to me as some others -- was i the only one who thought they were about to answer the "who is shooting at the outrigger" question when Richard and Miles got on the other outrigger (right before finding the Almighty Frank)?
My wife and I watched the finale again last night, I passed out on the couch within 5 minutes of it starting. She watched the entire thing, and I asked her, "Did you see anything different?"
She said the only thing she caught this time, was a line from Juliet; though it doesn't change anything.
I'm still of the opinion this show had horrible writing/direction, and they just kept it going, because they were getting paychecks.
Two whole seasons of hearing, "Walt!", and nothing in the finale. A season of time travel, tracking the island, going back to it, and nothing.
Can anybody explain why Michael was "trapped" on the island, but somebody like Ben wasn't? So, Michael supposedly failed the test because he shot two people, while trying to rescue his son?
Ben on the other hand, murdered an entire village; shot John Locke, then strangled him to death; and he let his "daughter" die, because he was selfish. He then killed the guy that shot his daughter, which caused the freighter to blow up killing Michael and separating Jin from Sun for nearly two seasons(or one season?). Ben also shot and killed Widmore.
Michael's last act was staying on the freighter, keeping the bomb cold; that gave Jin just enough time to survive the blast.
I went back during Season 6, and caught a lot of mistakes in episodes that shouldn't have been done; at least I wouldn't expect them from a production in its sixth season.
My opinion is the same. They knew they couldn't bring everything together, so they decided to play the "emotional" card on the season finale. Listen to the sappy music and the way it starts. Music can set the tone for what people are expecting. They played sappy music a lot throughout the episode, and I realized it midway through the episode, and was like, "This is going to be bad."
I really liked the Lost finale, I think it was one of the best episodes of the season. The problem with Lost was with the whole ridiculous Jacob storyline that preceded this finale. I thought that was awful.
The best season is definitely Season 4 - the use of simultaneous flashbacks/flashforwards was brilliant.
It went downhill from then, but was saved by a lot of comic relief (especially Hugo's references to Star Wars), then the reveal of the whole ridiculous Jacob storyline, and then a very emotional and moving finale which was great, and also ratified the whole season... since it wasn't really an alternate reality a lot of things that didn't make sense could make sense.
I think the only real unanswered question was Walt and his special powers. Also sad that origins like the Source and of course the Statue weren't explained.
So ends a saga older than time itself. The World's oldest and fiercest army has been led to victory, and a lost generation is delivered from its fear of extinction. As the sun sets over the field of conflict the dinosaurs disperse, hoping never to set foot in this place a...

You just don't know what happened with Ben after he was left with Hugo on the island. Essentially, he died at some point and he's not ready to enter the church, which means he could also be on the island like Michael is. So you don't know that he's not on the island just like Michael. The problem is that we haven't seen Michael in the "alternate reality" but he might be there and unable to enter the church just like Ben. The reason we haven't seen more of Michael seems to be the disagreement between the actor and the production.
It was a SHOCK to me to see Michael in Season 6 and a very nice surprise, since Michael criticised the show after his character died in Season 4 and also implied that the writers were guilty of racism because of their treatment of black characters in the show (and to be honest, he does have a point there)... since they couldn't conclude the Michael storyline, or didn't want to, it seems probable that Ben and Michael are in the same position - wandering the island and unable to move on... it's just that we saw the mirror imagination of Ben in the mirror universe, and not Michael's.

Hellos. Just closing my eyes, making a beeline for the comment box, dodging all possible spoilers... made it! I'm in the middle of season two right now. I'll come back sooner or later, but don't rush me, I like this show!
