i began wondering the possibilities of a Zelda Movie, so don't get giddy over the thread title. this entire thread is about the possibilities of a Zelda movie. the likeliness of an official Zelda movie is about 1/10,000,000,000.
that being said, i want to begin with saying that nothing could ever come close to doing the characters and the series justice. they're both just pure awesome, with a legendary (see what i did there) piece of the story added with each installment. but which game would it be based on? would it be based on a game at all? probably, because writing an original movie would maybe stray too far from the original game. fans of the series would possibly be offended, while the audience that doesnt play the series would be missing out on what makes the series special, so i believe it would be based on one of the games. but again, which game? i'll leave that up to you, my lovelies, though, if i were responsible for the film, i'd make a Link to the Past-arguably the BEST game in the series, and the most innovative.
now, WHO would direct this movie? Hayao Miyazaki, all the way. not because i'm a fan of him, because i'm not. i choose him because he usually directs some weird movies, and let's be honest with ourselves; the LoZ series has some weird stuff in it. knowing Miyazaki, i trust him to remain faithful to the anime art style of LttP, and i trust him to make a decent LoZ movie. again, go ahead and tell me who YOU think could do a good job directing the movie.
Now, how would this movie be presented? hand drawn anime type (my personal choice), live-action, or CGI? i personally cannot see LoZ as anything other than a hand drawn anime, especially with Miyazaki. i personally hate CGI. it was neat when pixar did it for their first movie, but then everyone started doing it, and it just looks disgusting to me now. seeing the new winnie the pooh movie was a breath of fresh air. whenever i see costumes of Link or Zelda on halloween, the costumes just look look wrong. seeing the movie as a hand drawn anime would not only be another breath of fresh air, but it would also be nice to see the hero from the SNES manual on the big screen, and noticing that they're the same, though i would appreciate some originality in the characters and the fields. creativity, Am-I-Right?
so, those are my thoughts. comment below on what you'd LOVE to see in a Zelda movie. agree with me? disagree?
While I agree that LttP was just plain epic, I think that Ocarina of Time would make the best movie. For starters, it plays a central role in the series. Most every game that came after it has some reference to it. The story was also great and, with some streamlining, would make an excellent movie plot. Also, it could be made into a trilogy, with Majora's Mask being the second and Twilight Princess being the third. As for the hand-drawn anime, good choice.
Your true face... What kind of... face is it? I wonder... The face under the mask... Is that... your true face?

You just gave me an idea. What if there was a Zelda movie that tied Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask together and filled in the gaps?
Yes, I agree with both the hand drawn anime art style, and Miyazaki. No other art style could do the series justice, IMO.
With that said, I agree that a trilogy would work, but not of three different games. The trilogy should be OoT, broken into three parts (smushing OoT into a 2-3 hour movie would be a disservice to the game).
SPOILERS
Part 1 - More lighthearted, it would follow the whimsical tale of young Link, ending with Ganon chasing after a fleeing Zelda, and Link aquiring the Master Sword.
Part 2 - Link, now thrust into a devastated future, must accept his role as Hyrule's only hope, and begin his quest in the future.
Part 3 - The final showdown at Ganon's Tower.
SPOILERS END
Also, Link must not speak! Have him get an injury early in life (physical or emotional), that keeps him from speaking (although he can still grunt & scream).
I'm sure Miyazaki could do just as good, if not better, than the games at showing his emotions through brilliant facial expressions. Everyone else can talk though (if it's Miyazaki, Disney will dub it in the west, meaning high quality voice work).

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
I think if they did Ocarina of Time, they will need to split it into at least two movies. That game is just massive in terms of story content.
Yeah, that's why I said some streamlining would be in order. The question is, how to do it without feeling like you're rushing through the plot?

I think an anime style would do the series justice if it had to have a movie/series, because they already made a manga, which was actually good. :3

Kids wouldn't really get into it because Mario is so mainstream now. Also,it would just plain fail. But if it was animated,it might not be a big flop.

@WingedFish Have you read the manga? He's actually a pretty good protagonist. :3. Just the voice acting would be painful.
Also, The TV Show wasn't nearly as bad as the cdi one. D:

When you said "i want to begin with saying that nothing could ever come close to doing the characters and the series justice." That's just a matter of opinion, in fact, as long as the person playing Link has a voice similar to the one in-game, looks close to him, can actually act, and has a high moral and oblivious personality, then you could have a perfect Link. Of course, that's just my definition of a "perfect" Link, which again, is a matter of opinion. But, the reason video game movies are usually so bad is because the director always decides to add his/her own twist. If they would make a solid script that sounded good, worked well, and was believable, then everything would be alright.
The biggest problem is Link. He does talk in game, you're just supposed to imagine how he does. And Shiggy said He's supposed to be a link between the player and the game. :3

Link's the Hero, so he would naturally have a high moral, heroic way of answering, of course, Link just answers questions most of the time.
I dunno, I don't think making him a generic hero will sit well.

Not exactly generic, in fact, if you were doing OoT he should probably be socially awkward due to his odd childhood. He'd be pretty oblivious to romance, and would have moral conflicts perhaps. He would probably question himself, and wonder why he's saving Hyrule, during this he could remember The Great Deku Tree's death, as well as the destruction that's been caused around him to make he continue onward, eventually, he'll grow a hatred for Ganondorf and his evil.

Ah, okay, the way you previously phrased that left me confused. . But yeah, that's what everybody sees about his personality, but I can't imagine it being done right.

He can be a silent hero. Or speak in "Hylian": "HYAAAAH HAHP HYAAAAH UWAAH!!!" (I do realize that isn't Hylian, btw.)
If you've ever seen the fake preview that (I think) IGN did for a Zelda movie as an April Fools' joke, that's what I want as a movie. It looked epic. Live action, CGI monsters... done right, it could be breathtaking. Done wrong... well, I'd just pretend they never made it and expel it from canon. I'd let them have the chance. Can't be worse than the TV show was.
