I think it would depend. What generation console did you start with? If it is too recent I think Link to the Past might be a little jarring for you, although that is likely still my favorite, possibly for nostalgia reasons. However, if you have been with gaming for a while it would suit you fine. Regardless Ocarina should be fine as a start point.
Oops just noticed you mentioned story.........yeah ALttP isn't going to give you a very strong depth of story although for the time it was made it was solid. So if that is a deal breaker you might need to pass on it for now.

OK.So far,the games the people have told me to start with:
Ocarina of Time(3D)
Skyward Sword
Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks
Majora's Mask
A Link to the Past
I'll probably do some research on these games.
Currently playing:A little bit of everything :D
Fan of:Adventure Time,The Legend of Korra,The Amazing World of Gumball,Regular Show,Futurama, and gaming on handhelds, consoles, and the PC.
If you have a 3DS and want to start cheap get Link's Awakening for the 3DS VC. it's only $5.99 but it's one of the best games(if not the best) Game Boy game ever!
Fan of: Shin Megami Tensei/ (Classic) Mega Man/ Pokemon/ Batman Arkham/ Metal Gear Solid/Peanuts/ DBZ/ Regular Show/ Power Rangers/The Walking Dead/ Invincible/ Detective Comics/ Secret Six/ Immortal Iron Fist/ Lobo/ Green Lantern

Just get one @Drobotic . Also add Twilight Princess to that list. It is an extremely large game and follows you common Zelda formula. I would recommend you get The Legend of Zelda: Collectors Edition though. It has Zelda 1, 2 , Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask. Lots of Zelda on one disk.

Skyward Sword caught my attention. So did Oot 3D.But here's the problem.I don't know what game to start with!I want to play a game with a complex story but with good gameplay, too.I'd like to hear your recommendations.
Do you like motion controls or not? Do you like playing games on a little screen or not? Answer those questions and you should know which game to start with. Playing these games out of order doesn't matter. Zelda games aren't real big on story. Personally I'd choose OoT 3D since it has a Master Quest and no Fi.
But I think if you start with Ocarina of Time, you're just going to be hoping the all the other games surpass it, possibly.
Which most of then do, so long as you're not taken in by hype or blinded by nostalgia.
Yeah, Ocarina is kinda bland compared to some of the later Zelda games
Agreed. Still very good, and great to start with. But after replaying it last year and this year, it's pretty far from my favorite Zelda.
Wow I botched that the first time
Assuming your premise is true, which I am somewhat inclined to agree with, wouldn't it make sense for the game that pioneered the style to be a little bland when compared to its predecessors?

Well yeah, but that doesn't really change...anything unless you take "innovation for the time" as a, if not the, key importance for how good a game is. And if you do use that argument, my rebuttal would be Megaman Legend's existance anyway. Zelda usually serves as the best counterpoint to my signature because of the worthwhile evolution of a series.
